o tamanho e a localização destes aspectos característicos
do método. / [en] This dissertation presents applications of Artificial

[en] OBJECT RECOGNITION SYSTEMS FOR INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION / [pt] SISTEMAS DE RECONHECIMENTO DE OBJETOS PARA AUTOMAÇÃO INDUSTRIALANCHIZES DO EGITO LOPES GOLCAVES FILHO 27 June 2012 (has links)
[en] Image recognition is essential in Industrial Automatic Systems for manipulation of parts without human interference. In this work several features for 2D profile recognition are presented and those independent of position are selected. The selection avoid the high computational cost related to the variable position of the objects on a conveyor belt. The selected characteristics from the digital images of the objects are the invariant moments. On the basis of the extracted features, a binary decision tree is used to classify the objects, allowing the identification of the profiles.

The idea of enabling a machine to recognize the environment with which it interacts has motivated researchers to dedicate efforts in studying the most complex of the human senses: vision. Vision is essentially a task of information representation and processing, what makes it suitable for computational treatment. Given that currently there are no methods that perform equivalently to humans, the use of features has been intensively studied in order to improve the performance of the existing methods. Among these features, the shape of an object provides a powerful sign of its identity and functionality, what enables the exploitation of this feature with the purpose of recognition. This evidence distinguishes shape from other visual features, such as color, motion or texture, which, although equally important, normally do not reveal the identity of an object. As a result, the possibility of evaluating the robustness and stability of alternate techniques for shape representation is essential in order to measure the performance of each technique in the presence of uncertainty. In this work, some shape descriptors available in the literature were implemented and used in case studies aiming at evaluating their effectiveness. These case studies were carried out using characters, although, with very different purposes. The first case study is geared towards applications such as mobile robotics, where the robot recognizes commands available in the environment. The main case study is focused on applications of license plate recognition, which could be used both in situations of surveillance and traffic control and in situations of infraction. Many applications, including those that involve the search and indexing of visual objects, are suited for the use of shape features. Another important characteristic of this work is that it emphasizes that the selection of a good shape description reduces the effort during the classification step, which is computationally elevated.

3d Object Recognition From Range ImagesIzciler, Fatih 01 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Recognizing generic objects by single or multi view range images is a contemporary popular problem in 3D object recognition area with developing technology of scanning devices such as laser range scanners. This problem is vital to current and future vision systems performing shape based matching and classification of the objects in an arbitrary scene. Despite improvements on scanners, there are still imperfections on range scans such as holes or unconnected parts on images. This studyobjects at proposing and comparing algorithms that match a range image to complete 3D models in a target database. The study started with a baseline algorithm which usesstatistical representation of 3D shapesbased on 4D geometricfeatures, namely SURFLET-Pair relations. The feature describes the geometrical relationof a surface-point pair and reflects local and the global characteristics of the object. With the desire of generating solution to the problem, another algorithmthat interpretsSURFLET-Pairslike in the baseline algorithm, in which histograms of the features are used, isconsidered. Moreover, two other methods are proposed by applying 2D space filing curves on range images and applying 4D space filling curves on histograms of SURFLET-Pairs. Wavelet transforms are used for filtering purposes in these algorithms. These methods are tried to be compact, robust, independent on a global coordinate frame and descriptive enough to be distinguish queries&rsquo / categories.Baseline and proposed algorithms are implemented on a database in which range scans of real objects with imperfections are queries while generic 3D objects from various different categories are target dataset.

[en] USE OF ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS IN THE RECOGNITION OF BI-DIMENSION IMAGES / [pt] REDES NEURAIS APLICADAS AO RECONHECIMENTO DE IMAGENS BI-DIMENSIONAISGUY PERELMUTER 05 July 2006 (has links)
[pt] Esta dissertação investiga a aplicação de Redes Neurais
Artificiais no reconhecimento de imagens bi-dimensionais. O
realizar a classificação.
No sistema SimpleNet, o
Propagation e Competitivas. O sistema XVision apresentou
resultados promissores para dois conjuntos distintos de
objetos bi-dimensionais: o primeiro composto por peças
mecânicas e o segundo por objetos triviais. As amostras
Desta forma
foram detectados os garagalos dos sistemas, facilitando
assim sua otimização. / [en] This work investigates the use of Artificial Neural
Networks in the recognition of bi-dimensional images. The
work was divided in four main parts: a survey on the
importance of Computational Vision and on the benefits of
the application of intelligent techniques in the fiels; a
survey on the structure of image recognition systems found
in the literature; the development of two image recognition
systems based on neural networks; and an analysis of the
performance of the developed systems.
Computational Vision has benefited from the main
Computational Intelligence techniques (neural networks,
genetic algoritms and fuzzy logic) to implement image
recognition systems. In this work, the usage of different
Kinds of neural networks in image classification was
studied: Back-Propagation, Competitive, RBF and
Hierarchical. Besiades that, a survey on the fields of
application of Computational Vision was made.
The basic structure is typically composed of three modules:
a pre-processor, a characteristics extractor and a
classifier.
In this work, two image recognition systems, called Xvision
and SimpleNet, were developed. The XVision system follows
the structure described above, while the SimpleNet system
performs the classification using the information present
in the raw picture.
The pre-processing module of the Xvision system executes a
series of transforms over the image, extracting its
essential characteristics so that an invariant
representation of the image can be obtained. This pre-
processor is based on a previous work in the fiels of
Signal Processing.
The characteristcs extractor aims to detect the most
relevant information present in the image representation
obtained after the previous step. Two kinds of extractors
were investigated: one based on statistical tecniques
(applyng the Fisher`s discriminant) and another based on
intelligent techniques (applyng genetic algorithms).
The classification module was implementede through several
Kinds of neural networks: Back-Propagation, Competitive,
RBF and Hierarchical.
The pre-processing of the SimpleNet system simply reduces
the image`s dimensions. Since the image`s pixels are used
for the classification process, no characteristics
extractor module was implemented. In the classification
module, Back-Propagation and Competitive neural networks
were employed.
The Xvision system yielded promising results for two sets
of objects: the first one composed of mechanical parts and
the second one composed of trivial objects. The samples
used during the tests presented different characteristics
from those samples used during the training process - not
only rotated, translated and scaled, but also with
structural differences. The classifier obtained a hit ratio
above 83% with both sets. The SimpleNet system also showed
a good performance in the differentiation of similar
objects (telephone cards and X-rays of lungs), achieving
hit ratios of more than 80%.
The development of both systems demonstrated the viability
of the use of neural networks in the classification of bi-
dimensional objects. Due to the interest of applying Vision
systems in real-time, the time spent in the recognition
process was measured. This allowed the detection of the
systems` bottlenecks, making their optimization easier.
