SPIHT-based Image Archiving Under Bit Budget Constraints

He, Yifeng 06 August 2013 (has links)
Image archiving is important in various applications. In this work, we formulate the problem of compressing image archives as an optimization problem and present an efficient method for solving this problem. Our method is based on adapting SPIHT to image archiving where the total bit budget is distributed optimally across the images. We show experimentally that this method significantly outperforms its counter-part, namely, SPIHT with equal distribution of bit budget.

Využití vlnkové transformace při kompresi videosignálu / Video compression based on wavelet transform

Kintl, Vojtěch January 2008 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on current possibilities concerning the employment of wavelet transformation for video signal compression. One part of the work is devoted to the necessary execution of this task in practise. This deals with video signal and its features description, wavelet transformation and compression methods. The second part concentrates on description of selected compression method. It is the SPIHT (Set Partitioning In Hierarchical Trees) algorithm which is intended for compression of static image data. The algorithm is modified for usage with video signal compression which is specific for its time redundancy. The algorithm is called 3D SPIHT as it works in the spatial and time domain. The algorithm is implemented in the MATLAB programming environment which provides a sophisticated support for wavelet transformation (Wavelet Toolbox). To provide a simple and intuitive encoder control there has been developed an application delivering graphical user interface (GUI). On displayed image previews and measured graphs the user can change encoder parameters and monitor performed changes. There are four image test-sequential modes containing various scenes with different features. The final part of the work is focused on testing of the proposed encoding scheme, various image test-sequential modes and encoder settings. Measured values are graphically displayed and analyzed.

Un système intégré d'acquisition 3D multispectral : acquisition, codage et compression des données / A 3D multispectral integrated acquisition system : acquisition, data coding and compression

Delcourt, Jonathan 29 October 2010 (has links)
We have developed an integrated system permitting the simultaneous acquisition of the 3D shape and the spectral spectral reflectance of scanned object surfaces. We call this system a 3D multispectral scanner because it combines within a stereopair, a multispectral video camera and a structured light projector. We see several application possibilities for a such acquisition system but we want to highlight applications in the field of digital archiving and broadcasting for heritage objects. In the manuscript we first introduce the acquisition system and its necessary calibrations and treatments needed for his use. Then, once the acquisition system is functional, data that are generated are rich in information, heterogeneous (mesh + reflectance, etc.) and in particular require lots of memory space. This fact makes data storage and transmission problematic, especially for applications like on line virtual museum. For this reason we study the different possibilities of representation and coding of data acquired by this system to adopt the most appropriate one. Then we examinate the most appropriate strategies to compress such data, without lost the generality on other data (satellite type). We perform a benchmark of compression strategies by providing an evaluation framework and improvements on existing conventional strategies. This first study will allow us to propose an adaptive approach that will be most effective for compression and particularly in the context of the compression strategy that we call Full-3D.

Object-Based Unequal Error Protection

Marka, Madhavi 03 August 2002 (has links)
This thesis presents a comparison of two methods for Object-Based Unequal Error Protection. The two methods, Combined Unequal Error Protection and Individual Unequal Error Protection, add Forward Error Correcting Codes to embeddedly coded objects of an image. This is done so that each byte within an object is protected according to its importance, has object-level of error protection proportional to the object's importance to the reconstructed quality, and has random access at the receiver. It is found that random access to the objects is obtained at a cost in terms of quality.

Efektivní nástroj pro kompresi obrazu v jazyce Java / JAVA-based effective implementation of an image compression tool

Průša, Zdeněk January 2008 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with digital image lossy compression. Lossy compression in general inserts some kind of distorsion to the resulting image. The distorsion should not be interupting or even noticable in the better case. For image analysis there is used process called transformation and for choosing relevant coefficients process called coding. Evaluation of image quallity can be done by objective or subjective method. There is encoder introduced and realized in this work. Encoder utilizes two-dimension wavelet transform and SPIHT algortihm for coefficient coding. It was made use of accelerated method of wavelet transform computation by lifting scheme. Coder can proccess color information of images using modificated original SPIHT algorithm. For implementation the JAVA programming language was employed. The object-oriented design principes was made use of and thus the program is easy to extended. At demonstaration pictures there are shown effectiveness and characteristic way of distorsion of the proposed coder at high compression rates.

Vliv rušení EKG signálu na kompresi algoritmem SPIHT / ECG noise influence on compression using SPIHT algorithm

Bartošovský, Petr January 2010 (has links)
The thesis provides an analysis of the ECG signal, focusing on the possible types of interference occuring in the signal. These types of interference are closely examined and their realization in the MATLAB programming environment is characterized. The SPIHT algorithm is introduced and the possibilities of its use are discussed. Futher, the application of this algorithm to the ECG signal containing individual types of interference generated by means of the designed interference generator is described and the impact of the SPIHT algorithm on the specific types of signal interference is analyzed. Finally, the obtained results are evaluated.

Compression of Medical Image Stacks using Wavelets and Zero-Tree Coding / Kompression av medicinska bildstackar med användning av wavelets och zerotree-kodning

Sjöblom, Erik January 2002 (has links)
The use of computers for handling image data in the healthcare is growing. The amount of data produced by modern image generating techniques, such as CT and MR, is vast. The amount of data might be a problem from a storage point of view or when the data is sent over a network. To overcome these problems data compression techniques adapted to these applications are needed. There are an abundant number of compression schemes for the compression of images, but few that are geared towards compression of image stacks. Though these 2D techniques can be applied to the image stacks they do not fully exploit the three-dimensional nature of the stacks. In this thesis ideas from the image compression area are extended to exploit the 3D nature of image stacks. Attention is directed to MR and CT stacks. The compression schemes in this thesis are based on the relatively new notion of wavelets, used in the JPEG2000 standard. The schemes also providea quality progressive transmission, which allows intermediate low-quality results to be constructed. Two different coders are presented in this thesis both developed for the compression of image stacks containing medical data. They are evaluated and compared and a top performer is chosen. Advantages and drawbacks of the schemes and future enhancements are also discussed.
