Syfte: Syftet med studien är att utforska hur internredovisningens finansiella termer utformas som kommunikationsverktyg och tillämpas av organisationens medlemmar som ett stöd inom organisationens operationella verksamhet. Genom att utgå utifrån specifika mötestillfällen ämnar studien att utforska hur internredovisningens finansiella termer gestaltas och beaktas inom en organisation. Teoretisk referensram: Studien har utgått från tidigare forskning kring kommunikation och ”the language of business” för att sedan kopplas samman med genre-teori (Miller, 1984) och modell som knyter an att se på kommunikation utifrån ett semiotiskt perspektiv (Pärl, 2011). Slutsats: Resultatet av denna studie påvisar att vid utformning av organisationers kommunikationsprocesser är ekonomisystemen av stor betydelse. Störst inverkan har, som precis nämnts, ekonomisystem på de faktorer som bidrar till valet av tajming, informationskanal och innehåll som sägs svara på frågorna när, var och vad. Avslutningsvis visar studiens resultat att det är aktörens individuella preferenser som besvarar frågan hur och därmed bidrar hur internredovisningens finansiella termer utformas som ett kommunikationsverktyg, organisationens individuella ”the language of business”. / Purpose: The aim with this study is to explore the way the financial terms within Management Accounting are designed as a way of communicating and how it is applied by organizational members to support their operational business. By drawing on specific meetings the study intends to explore how the financial terms within Management Accounting are represented and taken into consideration within an organization. Theoretical Approach: This report is based on existing literature within the field of communication and "the language of business" which then have been considered in relation to Genre Theory (Miller, 1984) and a semiotic-based communication model (Pärl, 2011). Conclusions: The study has indicated that when designing organizational communication processes, the design is influenced by existing Management Accounting and Control Systems. Important aspects to consider are timing, channel of communication and message. These aspects can be said to answer the questions of when, where and what. Finally, the outcome of this report also indicates that individual preferences, answering the question of how are important aspects to consider since the study indicates strong connection between individuals and the way addressing the financial terms of Accounting, in other words, designing a unique "the language of business".

We analyzed the Business English Corpus (Nelson, 2000) in order to find out the most distinctive lexicogramatical and semantic features in Business English area, including both a Sinclairean style analysis of collocations (Sinclair, 1991) and a Biberean style multidimensional analysis of the various registers represented in the corpus (Biber,1988). The theoretical framework for the research was based on Corpus Linguistics, which is an area that is devoted to the study of the language in use through principled collections of spoken and written texts stored on computer (BERBER SARDINHA, 2004; 2009, 2011). In addition,the theoretical framework also included insights on how to use corpora in language teaching from Sinclair (1991; 2004a; 2004b), Johns (1991), Berber Sardinha (2011) and Biber (1988;1999).These insights refer to the exploration of corpora in language teaching through the identification and analysis of lexicogramatical patterns of the language in use and the identification of the lexicogramatical and semantic features in the registers. The results of the corpus analysis showed a great variety of language patterns across the Business English registers. A selection of the patterns found was used in the development of teaching materials, which were then used in class with a particular student. The use of the materials was tracked and documented in a journal, which was later analyzed through a Content Analysis (Bardin, 1977), thereby revealing some of the major ways in which the student and the teacher both interacted with each other and with the materials. The interpretation of this interaction shed new light on how corpora can be used for English language teaching in general and for one-to-one tuition in Business English / Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo principal a elaboração de material didático baseado em corpus voltado aos alunos de inglês para os negócios (IN) em um contexto de aulas particulares individuais. Realizamos a análise do Business English Corpus- BEC (Nelson, 2000) a fim de descobrirmos as características lexicogramaticais e semânticas mais salientes no contexto de IN, incluindo tanto a análise de colocações na perspectiva de Sinclair (1991) quanto na perspectiva da Análise Multidimensional dos vários registros representados no corpus (Biber,1988). Para tanto, encontramos suporte teórico principal na Linguística de Corpus, uma área que se ocupa do estudo da língua em uso através de coletâneas de textos escritos e de transcrição de fala armazenados em computador (BERBER SARDINHA, 2004; 2009, 2011). O arcabouço teórico desta pesquisa também incluiu percepções sobre como utilizar os corpora no ensino através das propostas de Sinclair (1991; 2004a; 2004b), Johns (1991), Berber Sardinha (2011) e Biber (1988;1999). Estas percepções são referentes à exploração de corpora no ensino de línguas por meio da identificação e análise de padrões lexicogramaticais da língua em uso e da identificação das características lexicogramaticais e semânticas dos registros. Os resultados da análise do corpus mostraram que há uma grande variedade de padrões de linguagem referentes aos registros de IN. Uma seleção dos padrões encontrados foi utilizada no desenvolvimento de materiais de ensino, que foram usados em sala com um aluno particular. A utilização dos materiais foi acompanhada e documentada em um diário reflexivo, que foi, posteriormente, analisado à luz da Análise de Conteúdo (Bardin, 1977), revelando, dessa forma, como professora e aluno interagiram um com o outro e com os materiais. A interpretação de tal interação ampliou a compreensão sobre como os corpora podem ser usados no ensino de língua inglesa em geral e no ensino de IN na modalidade de aulas particulares individuais

Geschäftsprozesse im Verwaltungs- und Dienstleistungsbereich werden häufig durch den Eingang von Dokumenten angestoßen. Hierfür ist es unerlässlich, dass sie den richtigen Mitarbeiter im Unternehmen oder der Organisation erreichen. Oftmals sind jedoch dem externen Sender die internen Organisationsstrukturen nicht klar, so dass eine zentrale Stelle angeschrieben wird. Diese muss dann das Dokument, basierend auf seinem Inhalt, an die zuständigen Kollegen weiterleiten. Dies kann beträchtlichen personellen Aufwand mit sich bringen. In der Forschungsarbeit wird ein System entwickelt, das diese Aufgabe maschinell erfüllen soll. Hierzu werden verschiedenartige Klassifikationsverfahren erprobt und hinsichtlich ihrer Verlässlichkeit beurteilt. Weiterhin werden Verbesserungen gegenüber gängigen maschinellen Verfahren angestrebt.

Language policies in the European Union and India : a comparative study

The thesis offers a comparative analysis of language policies in the EU and India. Specifically, it examines the role of power and ideology in the formulation and implementation of language policies. The need for this thesis emerged in view of the lack of comprehensive comparative analyses of language policies which leads to epistemological gaps, including one-dimensional narratives of language policies, and theories which are lacking in precision. In light of these gaps, the thesis undertakes a comprehensive investigation of policies in eight policy domains (administration, legal safeguards for minority languages, law, education, media, healthcare, business, and social welfare) in the EU and India and in two case studies each from the EU (Luxembourg, Wales), and India (Manipur, Tamil Nadu), chosen on the basis of maximum and minimum deviation from the EU's and Indian policies. The study examines policy texts (statutes on language use in these polities), and contexts which concern the historical and socio-political factors underpinning language policies. The thesis makes three important contributions. First, it marks a break from the prevalent understanding of power in macro-level policymaking. Research to date has tended to view power as a monolithic entity, while this thesis offers evidence that power and ideology are not uniform across policy domains. Second, it bridges the text-context divide of language policy research by conducting an investigation of policy-related legislation, and highlighting the importance of texts in understanding language policies, as they reflect the changes in power structures through time. Third, the thesis proposes a new analytical concept for investigating language policies, Categories of Differentiation (COD). Categories of Differentiation refer to the sets of binaries which underpin language policies in the aforementioned case studies. These binaries include the hills-valley divide (Manipur), the Dravidian-Aryan divide (Tamil Nadu), and the autochthonous-allochthonous divide (EU) among others. Language policies have often been described as 'multilayered', and COD offer a systematic approach to exploring these multiple layers. Overall, the thesis demonstrates how comparative research aids understanding of language policies, and sets out a possible theoretical framework for conducting it.
