第一章由左傳原為編年體製，以證其比附於春秋。第一節由杜預所說師春篇卜筮事 次第證之。第二節由管子大匡篇敘齊事用左傳為說證之。第三節由史記孔子世家誤 推孔子年歲證之。第四節由史記宋微子世家紀年之誤證之。第五節由史記十二諸侯 年表編年來由證之。 第二章由諸書引徵，以證左傳為解經而作。第一節由先秦文獻稱左傳為春秋證之。 第二節由劉歆以前文獻引述左傳解經文字證之。 第三章由資料分析，以證左傳其書早已流傳。第一節，由先秦西漢文獻引述左傳證 之。第二節，由傳授源流證之。第三節，由左傳預言之合與不合證之。 第四章劉欽偽竄左傳辨疑條述，此章先考明左傳在劉歆時代流傳情形，以證劉歆不 可能偽竄左傳，次一一條列前人疑劉歆偽竄左傳之說，而考辨其說能否成立。
