本論文共一冊，約九萬字，分六章，其大要如下： 第一章，「緒論」，簡述明末文社之踵與及東林黨在政治上之挫敗，以說明復社崛起 之背景。 第二章，「復社之成立及其重要人物」，探究復社之本源─應社，敘述復社成立之經 過，包括宗旨及組織，而簡介社事之主盟與重要人物。 第三章，「復社與崇禎弦光朝之黨爭」，此章言復社由一會文結社之士人集團，而至 名動天下，操持選政，終引起妒恨，在政治上，先後與溫體仁，阮大鋮等掌權派抗爭 之經過。 第四章，「復社之學術與晚明學風」，論述其興復古學之理想，由經學、史學、文學 及實用之學以見之，並略述明學風之梗概。 第五章，「明亡之際復社人物之動向與晚明士節」，分類說明其進退出處，以見其節 操，並略論晚明士節。 第六章，「結論」，評述復社之理想與價值，並論述其與晚明學風之關係
