Orientador: Ana Cervigni Guerra, Rogerio Drummond / Dissertação (mestrado profissional) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-07T22:07:00Z (GMT). The task of writing software use cases is in essence non deterministic and therefore involves risks. On the other hand, the coverage level of requirements depends the way of document requirements are interpreted. In order to bring a systematic approach in developing software use cases, the Bayesian network technique helps supporting with this problem. The current software test architecture is modeled in a graphical way, adding scenario simulation and risk statistic. The network addresses very well risks and non deterministic scenarios.Along with the Bayesian Network , the proposed systematic approach encompasses the adequacy criteria which main goal is to improve requirements coverage. Each system requirement is interpreted according to well defined criteria. A matrix will be the final product, as a result from the current systematic approach. All use cases obtained from the network and those discovered thanks of adequacy criteria can be seen together. In addition this, the technique allows scenarios simulation. The experimental results show an increase of four times and half in requirements coverage, as compared against the traditional technique. In the analysis phase , there is a trend of reducing the effort by a factor of 4.One interesting result using this technique is the amount of new scenarios identified. Most of them are not properly described in the requirement document. This brings a powerful tool to add value in updating the design document / Mestrado / Engenharia de Software / Mestre em Ciência da Computação

Towards agile requirement engineering

Louis, Harriet 04 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA)--Stellenbosch University, 2015. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Software development is a relatively young science and involves certain tools, techniques, documentation aids and processes that are applied to deliver a software project. As hardware, software and business needs advanced, so did the processes used in managing software development. It is a dynamic and complex process and each development environment or project has its own unique characteristics. For this reason the methodologies followed during the development process is very often debated. Software development teams have a wide array of methodologies to choose from. The development team usually decides what the key success factors are to deliver a software product, and then examines each one within the framework of a list of potential methodologies. This way the team can compare which methodology would best suit their needs. Factors used to evaluate which methodology to follow, includes the size of the project team, rate of expected changes, the primary goal of the project, how requirements will be managed, communication structures that will be followed, the nature of the relationship with the customer, and the organisational culture in the customer organisation. This research report takes a comparative look at Waterfall methods versus Agile methods.

Service-based automation of software construction activities

Zinn, Marcus January 2013 (has links)
The reuse of software units, such as classes, components and services require professional knowledge to be performed. Today a multiplicity of different software unit technologies, supporting tools, and related activities used in reuse processes exist. Each of these relevant reuse elements may also include a high number of variations and may differ in the level and quality of necessary reuse knowledge. In such an environment of increasing variations and, therefore, an increasing need for knowledge, software engineers must obtain such knowledge to be able to perform software unit reuse activities. Today many different reuse activities exist for a software unit. Some typical knowledge intensive activities are: transformation, integration, and deployment. In addition to the problem of the amount of knowledge required for such activities, other difficulties also exist. The global industrial environment makes it challenging to identify sources of, and access to, knowledge. Typically, such sources (e.g., repositories) are made to search and retrieve information about software unitsand not about the required reuse activity knowledge for a special unit. Additionally, the knowledge has to be learned by inexperienced software engineers and, therefore, to be interpreted. This interpretation may lead to variations in the reuse result and can differ from the estimated result of the knowledge creator. This makes it difficult to exchange knowledge between software engineers or global teams. Additionally, the reuse results of reuse activities have to be repeatable and sustainable. In such a scenario, the knowledge about software reuse activities has to be exchanged without the above mentioned problems by an inexperienced software engineer. The literature shows a lack of techniques to store and subsequently distribute relevant reuse activity knowledge among software engineers. The central aim of this thesis is to enable inexperienced software engineers to use knowledge required to perform reuse activities without experiencing the aforementioned problems. The reuse activities: transformation, integration, and deployment, have been selected as the foundation for the research. Based on the construction level of handling a software unit, these activities are called Software Construction Activities (SCAcs) throughout the research. To achieve the aim, specialised software construction activity models have been created and combined with an abstract software unit model. As a result, different SCAc knowledge is described and combined with different software unit artefacts needed by the SCAcs. Additionally, the management (e.g., the execution of an SCAc) will be provided in a service-oriented environment. Because of the focus on reuse activities, an approach which avoids changing the knowledge level of software engineers and the abstraction view on software units and activities, the object of the investigation differs from other approaches which aim to solve the insufficient reuse activity knowledge problem. The research devised novel abstraction models to describe SCAcs as knowledge models related to the relevant information of software units. The models and the focused environment have been created using standard technologies. As a result, these were realised easily in a real world environment. Softwareengineers were able to perform single SCAcs without having previously acquired the necessary knowledge. The risk of failing reuse decreases because single activities can be performed. The analysis of the research results is based on a case study. An example of a reuse environmenthas been created and tested in a case study to prove the operational capability of the approach. The main result of the research is a proven concept enabling inexperienced software engineers to reuse software units by reusing SCAcs. The research shows the reduction in time for reuse and a decrease of learning effort is significant.

Choosing Free/Open Source Software : The strategic reasons for using Open Office in the municipalities

Mirza Aghaee, Naghmeh January 2009 (has links)

Open source software is becoming a credible and realistic alternative to proprietary software in municipalities. The aim of this thesis is to explore the strategies and logical issues that inspire and motivate municipalities to migrate into or integrate use of open source software. The research approach used in the study is an explorative, comparative case study performed in the three Swedish municipalities of Falköping, Alingsås and Kungälv, which considers implementation and use of OpenOffice in administration. The methodologies used in the case study were in-depth interviews with Chief Information Officers in the municipalities and document analysis. The interviews were combined with the tool of SWOTanalysis to further focus on the reasons for choosing OpenOffice as an application program. There is certainly not a unique strategy to migrate into or integrate use of Free/Open Source Software. Since each municipality is autonomous in the process of decision-making, various strategic planning or guidelines are use in different municipalities. In the municipalities of Alingsås and Kungälv the strategic planning is used for leading the processes of implementation of new software applications. However, in Falköping municipality, the procedures are guided by a set of guidelines. The lower Total Cost of Ownership and the Free/Open Source Software’s freedoms besides many other advantages, make the municipalities stimulated to migrate into use of OpenOffice suite. In contrast, there are some drawbacks and barriers, such as shortage of internal and external standardization and lack of user knowledge and familiarity, which demotivate the municipalities to take this decision. To lower costs of IT administration seems to be the most significant factor in motivating municipalities to migrate into use of OpenOffice. More research is needed in order to find out the consequences of implementation of OpenOffice in municipalities as well as to investigate if Total Cost of Ownership really is decreased by the use of Open Office.

Next generation software process improvement

Turnas, Daniel 06 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / Software is often developed under a process that can at best be described as ad hoc. While it is possible to develop quality software under an ad hoc process, formal processes can be developed to help increase the overall quality of the software under development. The application of these processes allows for an organization to mature. The software maturity level, and process improvement, of an organization can be measured with the Capability Maturity Model. The scope of this work is to use organizationally improved software processes on a small scale software product developed by the U.S. Army . The goal is to establish process improvement based on the Capability Maturity Model. / Civilian, United States Army TACOM
