______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This MSc. Thesis presents two study cases related to the architectures of implementation of geographical information systems (GIS) in web environment that ended in the development of a framework composed by a set of components supporting the preparation of new web GIS software packages. The first study was conducted focused on the interoperability of map services in the web, mainly covering the functions of consultation and release of data at varying formats. In order to enable exchange and integration of spatial information, it was necessary to develop components based on proprietary technologies like ESRI Flex API. After understanding the limitations that a central engine of closed source code could bring to the main object of study, that is, the development of an architecture for the exchange of geographic information, we came out with the idea of building a set of software that would circumvent such difficulties. The second study was conducted focusing on the preparation of a free framework for development of GIS in an environment of Rich Internet Application (RIA) and Web 2.0 concepts. The purpose here was to enable indexing and visualization of data from different types of media (photos, videos, documents) that were adherent not only to the standards of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), but also to other data formats. The latter study also sought to reduce the complexity and costs of implementation of such projects and to facilitate customization by end users. This set of developed softwares and its architecture was named XGIS Flex Framework.

This thesis deals with creating application for PDA for multimedia stream presentation and processing. Introduction of the thesis is devoted to the theoretical explanation of terms such as PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) and Windows Mobile 6.0. Readers will be acquainted with the technology of .NET Framework and also with its version for mobile equipment .NET Compact Framework. Advantages as well as disadvantages of .NET technology are dealt with in this section together with the same phenomena of C# programming language, which is the basic language used for running our application. Next chapters of the thesis deal with my own design of multimedia application, especially from the point of view of classes. For better orientation and understanding UML diagram is used. UML (Unified Modeling Language) is a graphic language intended for visualization and documentation of programming systems. Except of general description of the classes there is also a detailed explanation of individual attributes and application methods. Their function and purpose are explained here as well. In the next part of the thesis attention is paid to the network communication of the application, both in terms of individual multimedia files transmission and stream transmission. Principles of connection and disconnection between client and server are analyzed in this part. Client’ s part of the application is designed for the mobile equipment with Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 operation system and server’s part of application is designed for computers, where Microsoft Windows XP operation system is installed. A concise manual for operating both the applications is included. This part also describes some exceptions which may occur in case of problems with connection. Last chapters describe synchronization of mobile equipment or emulator with a desktop computer and provide the reader with the summary of supported audio formats in multimedia application. All achieved results are summarized in the concluding part of the thesis.

Bergius, Johan, Ranhult, Philip January 2020 (has links)
This report will walkthrough several techniques and methods that have been used to create a new kind of web-based API. This new kind of API is called GraphQL and fullfils the same purpose as the more traditionally used REST API. What differs between these two types of API is that GraphQL uses a ”Query Language” when the user communicates with the API. The implementation is done in .NET Framework together with a company named Quicksearch. The development has been done within Quicksearch’s computer system and the API can request information from the company’s database and send it back to the user of the API. The tools that have been used to develop the API are Visual Studio as the development enviroment, along with the programming language C#. Postman is a software that have also been used to help develop and test the GraphQL API. Relevant methods used in the development includes libraries directed to create a GraphQL API and libraries used to create the connection to the database. Design patterns have also be important in the development and the most noticeable ones have been ”Dependency Injection” and ”Model-View-Controller” to create the application. The end result is an API that is able to recieve simple queries directed against a simple data-model or object. Aditionally a comparison between GraphQL and REST have been done and the result is that there are distinct differences between the two types of API but there is a lack of scientific reasarch and knowledge to make the conclusion of which is the better alternative and additional tests are required.

Improving Dilemma Zone Protection Control Issues at Signalized Intersection Using a Web-Game

Kasaraneni, Yatish 05 November 2009 (has links)
Web games provide a platform for creative instructional activities that can capture the students' attention towards the course. These games can be used to emulate the realistic situations which can be used as effective lab experiments that could give the students a hands-on experience using real world scenarios. This thesis presents an innovative web-based game developed for the demonstration of the driver-behavior at signalized intersections that can be used as a supplementary tool for the Transportation Engineering course. The game format is carefully designed to supplement the understanding of the class learning material through a fun environment. It was designed to be widely accessible through the internet and have an attractive user interface and was improved from the feedback obtained from the pilot study. The game is programmed on the .NET Framework using the Microsoft Visual C# as a core programming language, ASP to develop the web interface, and Microsoft Access as the databases for the program. The thesis also provides a methodological framework for collecting data about student engagement in a course and in particular presents the data collection procedure used in Transportation Engineering Course (CEE 4609). The collected data was analyzed to find the student engagement in the course after the introduction of the game. The thesis gives the conclusions drawn from the research with insights into possible drawbacks and scope for future improvements. / Master of Science
