HR employees' perceptions regarding the changes in labour broking

Loggenberg, Bennie 11 1900 (has links)
South Africa’s labour legislation went through significant changes recently, with the changes to section 198 of the Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995 being the most contentious. The purpose of this research was to explore the perceptions of employees in the HR department of an integrated petroleum and chemical company regarding the changes to labour broking and the potential implications of these changes for an integrated petroleum and chemical company and its employees. The qualitative exploratory study was conducted with six employees of a large integrative petroleum and chemical company making use of labour brokers, until data saturation was reached. The data were collected by means of individual interviews and telephonic interviews. The results indicated that the changes to section 198 will have some positive and negative implications. The positive implications for an organisation included more productive employees and the ability to identify high-quality employees more easily. The positive implications for the company's employees are that the lower-income employees will be protected, the new legislation will provide permanent employment and there will be better dispute resolution procedures. The negative implications to the changes to section 198 for the organisation, include for instance higher costs, the drafting of new policies and guidelines and less employment flexibility. Negative implications for the employees include unemployment, negative attitudes towards the organisation, poor employability and a situation where the current and/or permanent employees have to do all the work. / Business Management / M. A Migration Management Framework Proposal For Cobol/cics Based Mainframes

Kaplan, Halil 01 January 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Today, mainframes contain a considerable portion of business applications worldwide. It is estimated that the current inventory of production COBOL running on mainframes is 150 to 200 billion lines of code. Despite the efforts to change within the mainframe environment, these mainframes, nowadays, face major problems for host organizations due to a combined set of financial, business related, technical and organizational problems. Moreover, the factors like diminishing resources (COBOL programmers), lack of documentation, inability to integrate with other systems, increasing maintenance costs, etc. have caused the organizations search for migration solutions. To overcome this problem within the context of modernization, over the years several main migration approaches that ranges from simple screen scraping methods to complete re-write of applications or re-hosting of platforms have been developed. To contribute to the solution of this overall problem, this thesis proposes a methodology framework specifically for the COBOL/CICS based mainframes. The research studies in this topic within this field are mainly focused on the technical aspects whereas our concentration is covering not only that but the other essential aspects of the problem domain. These are organizational view, project management view and process view. Within the thesis study, a special interest is given to the modernization strategy selection among migration, rewrite, packaged and do-nothing alternatives. Experimental results are also provided within the thesis to prove the usability of the approach for this selection.

ASSIS, Thais Josy Castro Freire de January 2007 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2014-06-12T15:55:34Z (GMT).

Postoj státu k dobrovolníkům / State Approach to Volunteers

Štěpánková, Jitka January 2008 (has links)
The diploma thesis "State Approach to Volunteers" deals with the evolution of the state's relationship to voluntary activities in Czech society, with an emphasis on the period since 1989. The starting point is the setting of volunteerism into the context of postindutrial society, which urges us to revise our values orientation, the possibilities of the labour market, our access to life-long education and our level of social cohesion. The essay pays attention to the analysis of the state's approach to the phenomena of volunteerism (in the role of a supporter) and to the resulting position of volunteers in Czech society, stressing the steps that were made to support volunteerism by the state. It analyses the statistical data that deals with the characteristics of organisation, and the projects that have been supported in connection with the Act on Voluntary Service 198/2002. Further, it presents a comparison of the problematic fields of Czech legislation on volunteering with the Polish and Hungarian legislation on volunteering. Finally, it suggests steps and arrangements that could be used in the further support of voluntary activities in the Czech environment.

On reading narcissistic texts : an object relations theory view of the life and works of Soren Kierkegaard

Greenhalgh, Kenneth January 2008 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with the psychoanalytical concept of narcissism, and the effect that texts written by narcissistic writers have upon their readers. I use Søren Kierkegaard as an example of a narcissistic writer who produced narcissistic texts. In order to follow through the logic of the thesis, it is necessary to explain first the Freudian idea of narcissism, and then narcissism as considered by one post-Freudian school called Object Relations theory. It is also necessary, second, to summarise a psychoanalytic model of what happens when we read any kind of text. The methodology of this thesis is usually called psychobiography, the systematic application of psychodynamic principles to the study of a life, and so, third, both the principles and some of the issues of this methodology are presented. Having established an operational definition of narcissism, the thesis looks first at Kierkegaard’s life, identifying a series of key events or stages that can be re-interpreted on the assumption that Kierkegaard was narcissistic. Three of his key texts are considered next - Fear and Trembling, Works of Love and The Sickness Unto Death. Each of these can be interpreted to show how his narcissism influenced his writing. Two substantial appendices are included. The first is a comment upon the relationship between God and psychoanalysis, presented primarily to introduce the ideas of Donald Winnicott. The second is on the concept of psychopathology, a difficult topic, since it is at once both heavily value laden, but is also persistent in any analysis of psychological difference. In conclusion I refer to several key Kierkegaardian themes, emphasising their narcissistic origins, and ask the reader to reflect upon their own responses to these issues, to consider how Kierkegaard’s narcissism influences their own emotions, and how these in turn affect any cognitive understanding of Søren Kierkegaard.
