Task Level Parallelization of Irregular Computations using OpenMP 3.0

Albalawi, Eid 2013 July 1900 (has links)
OpenMP is a standard parallel programming language used to develop parallel applications on shared memory machines. OpenMP is very suitable for designing parallel algorithms for regular applications where the amount of work is known apriori and therefore distribution of work among the threads can be done at compile time. In irregular applications, the load changes dynamically at runtime and distribution of work among the threads can only be done at runtime. In the literature, it has been shown that OpenMP produces unsatisfactory performance for irregular applications. In 2008, the OpenMP 3.0 version introduced new directives and features such as the ''task'' directive to handle irregular computations. Not much work has gone into studying irregular algorithms in OpenMP 3.0. In this thesis, I provide some insight into the usefulness of OpenMP 3.0

Plateforme extensible de modélisation et de construction d’applications web correctes et évolutives, avec hypothèse de variabilité / Towards an extensible framework for modelling and implementing correct and evolutive web applications, under variability hypothesis

Sferruzza, David 13 September 2018 (has links)
Lots of software companies rely on web technologies to test market hypotheses and thereby develop viable businesses. They often need to be able to quickly build web services that are at the core of their "Minimum Viable Products" (MVP). In this context, building web services must allow the variability of technologies and specifications and improve developers' efficiency. Even if numerous approaches to build web services exist, the industrial context lacks methods that ensure an easy and flexible building, a proper functioning and a good maintainability of the web services, while being accessible by generalist developers. For the purpose of reducing these limitations, we propose a method based on Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) to develop web services. It focuses on (i) rapid prototyping, (ii) model verification, (iii) compatibility with common programming languages and (iv) alignment between documentation and implementation. This method is based on a voluntarily minimalist meta-model, along with rules for semantic consistency. Models can be derived from extended OpenAPI 3.0 models. We also provide a tool, SWSG, that automatize parts of this process. Especially, SWSG allows to generate code in order to integrate the described web services inside an application made with the Laravel PHP framework. Finally, the whole approach is evaluated through case studies.

MyBookStore-eshopping for books

Chitturi, Sushma Reddy January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Computing and Information Sciences / Daniel A. Andresen / The Web is a shopper's paradise boasting every kind of product imaginable — plus many more that are almost unimaginable. People find it easy and secure to shop online these days thereby saving time and also have more options to choose from at their fingertips. Based on this comes MyBookStore, a neat web application designed to exclusively cater the needs of students for purchasing books online. Primary focus of this application is to ease the use of searching for a particular book by the user and also navigability within the website. A sophisticated search engine has been designed in this application which filters the products based on various user criterions. Searching and viewing the details about a book is available. This also has an administrator side through which the administrator can update the website with new products, remove any of the available products, and add new categories, subcategories and products along with updating the shipping status of orders placed. This section is majorly responsible for user accounts maintenance, product maintenance as well as orders maintenance. Major emphasis of this application is to build user interactive search techniques for simplifying user needs and to provide specific products as required by the user.

Evaluation and improvement of semantically-enhanced tagging system

Alsharif, Majdah Hussain January 2013 (has links)
The Social Web or ‘Web 2.0’ is focused on the interaction and collaboration between web sites users. It is credited for the existence of tagging systems, amongst other things such as blogs and Wikis. Tagging systems like YouTube and Flickr offer their users the simplicity and freedom in creating and sharing their own contents and thus folksonomy is a very active research area where many improvements are presented to overcome existing disadvantages such as the lack of semantic meaning, ambiguity, and inconsistency. TE is a tagging system proposing solutions to the problems of multilingualism, lack of semantic meaning and shorthand writing (which is very common in the social web) through the aid of semantic and social resources. The current research is presenting an addition to the TE system in the form of an embedded stemming component to provide a solution to the different lexical form problems. Prior to this, the TE system had to be explored thoroughly and then its efficiency had to be determined in order to decide on the practicality of embedding any additional components as enhancements to the performance. Deciding on this involved analysing the algorithm efficiency using an analytical approach to determine its time and space complexity. The TE had a time growth rate of O (N²) which is polynomial, thus the algorithm is considered efficient. Nonetheless, recommended modifications like patch SQL execution can improve this. Regarding space complexity, the number of tags per photo represents the problem size which, if it grows, will increase linearly the required memory space. Based on the findings above, the TE system is re-implemented on Flickr instead of YouTube, because of a recent YouTube restriction, which is of greater benefit in multi languages tagging system since the language barrier is meaningless in this case. The re-implementation is achieved using ‘flickrj’ (Java Interface for Flickr APIs). Next, the stemming component is added to perform tags normalisation prior to the ontologies querying. The component is embedded using the Java encoding of the porter 2 stemmer which support many languages including Italian. The impact of the stemming component on the performance of the TE system in terms of the size of the index table and the number of retrieved results is investigated using an experiment that showed a reduction of 48% in the size of the index table. This also means that search queries have less system tags to compare them against the search keywords and this can speed up the search. Furthermore, the experiment runs similar search trails on two versions of the TE systems one without the stemming component and the other with the stemming component and found out that the latter produced more results on the conditions of working with valid words and valid stems. The embedding of the stemming component in the new TE system has lessened the effect of the storage overhead needed for the generated system tags by their reduction for the size of the index table which make the system suited for many applications such as text classification, summarization, email filtering, machine translation…etc.
