Luu, Magnus, Karlsson, Johan January 2013 (has links)
The dissertation addresses the comparison of Server Message Block 3.0 and its predecessor SMB 2.1 on an existing network. The comparison was performed in four laboratory environments consisting of four operating systems: Windows Server 2008R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7 and Windows 8. A total of four tests were performed: Feasibility Study, Test 1, Test 2 and Test 3. The feasibility study was conducted to test the network performance between two computers while the other tests put SMB 2.1 and 3.0 to the test. In Test 1 SMB 3.0 was considered to underperform in difference to SMB 2.1, to confirm the results Jose Barreto at Microsoft were contacted. Barreto stated that the two software applications Windows Defender and Windows Firewall could cause interference and performance reductions. Test 2 and Test 3 was therefore performed with the previously mentioned software disabled. The results were as previously varied but may well be due to other factors such as poorly updated network card drivers.

Darknet Drug Markets in a Swedish Context: A Descriptive Analysis of Wall Street Market and Flugsvamp 3.0

Magnúsdóttir, Hulda January 2019 (has links)
Drug use is a global pandemic with overdose-related deaths on the rise. Technological advances have made drug markets more commonly located online, indicating that Darknet markets will become the drug markets of the future. While Darknet markets have existed since the year 2010, research on the phenomena is scarce. The Wall Street Market (WSM) was established in 2016 and by 2017 it was the world´s largest international cryptomarket. Flugsvamp 3.0 is the most current Swedish domestic drug market on Darknet. This study examined WSM and Flugsvamp 3.0, regarding available drug types, number of advertisements, prices and countries of origin on WSM. The study also compared prices on these cryptomarkets with the street prices of Stockholm. During the research process, WSM was shut down by law enforcement. Therefore, an additional day of data collecting on Flugsvamp 3.0 was conducted. The study utilized a method of structured simple observation. A descriptive analysis, with uni- and bivariate analyses, was conducted. The most common drug on both markets was Pharmaceuticals, or prescription drugs. The market with the lowest prices was WSM, while street prices in Stockholm were the lowest of all three marketplaces. Germany most commonly shipped drugs to Sweden, via transactions through WSM. After the closure of WSM both number of advertisements and prices increased on Flugsvamp 3.0, in general. There is a pressing need for further research on Darknet drug markets, as the efficiency of law enforcement efforts to combat drug use depends on it.

Axelsson, Amelia, Permarv, Lylan January 2020 (has links)
The environmental impact from the construction sector in Sweden is increasing and to meet the environmental challenges, environmental assessment tools is a way to be more aware of the choices you make during the construction and designing stage. There are severeal environmental assessment tools in Sweden, one of them is Miljöbyggnad. Miljöbyggnad is designed for the swedish climate, building regulations and rules. Miljöbyggnad contains several manuals, one of them is Miljöbyggnad 3.0 for new constructions. The assessment tool is based on 15 different indicators in areas energy, indoorclimate and material. Statistics from year 2020 shows that 1570 buildings have been certified with Miljöbyggnad. 1148 buildings has reached the building grade Silver while 177 have reached Gold. We are trying to find out why significatly more buildings certified with Miljöbyggnad achieved Silver and not Gold. Answering the question was done through a case study, interviews and litteraturestudy. In the case study two buildings are studied and compared with the manual Miljöbyggnad 3.0 for new construction. In order to gain more knowledge when literature is scarce in the area, interviews were assessed to add more knowledge to the issue. All of the respondents from the interviews felt that the solar thermal load and daylight indicators are contraindications. In order to secure good daylight in the building daylight simulations should be done in a early stage. The case study for Building 1 clearly showed that solar thermal load and daylight work against each other. The solar thermal load for that building met the requirements for Gold whilst daylight met the requirements for Bronze. The reasons we conclude why clients chose to invest in Silver instead of Gold are many. One reason can be that Silver is a good grade that requires more time and effort throughout the entire process.  Bronze is the current legal requirement and Gold means that the buildings have a well-stated environmental profile. Therefor it is clear that the cost to design, certify and verify against Miljöbyggnad is one of the main reasons why Gold is seldom achieved. It would be too expensive and costly, which leads to higher rents. Certain pieces such as indicator 15, frame and the foundation's climate impact seemed to be more difficult to achieve high grade according to the interviews and the case study. The gradingsystem in Miljöbyggnad is strict, this means that no indicator can have the grade Bronze when you want to achieve Gold for the building. All aspects that Miljöbyggnad assesses must be well thought out and elaborated if the grade Gold is to be achieved. Silvergrade is more forgiving because it allows a certain number of indicators with the grade Bronze.

The Representation of Culture : A Comparative Analysis of Cultural Representation in Swedish EFL Coursebooks

Calais, Linus January 2021 (has links)
The overall aim of this study is to analyse the cultural representation in fictional texts in three English as a Foreign Language (EFL) coursebooks written for the English 5 course in Swedish upper secondary school. The three coursebooks are Blueprint A 3.0, Pick & Mix 1, and Solid Gold 1. The study was conducted in order to compare and discuss the portrayal and representation of cultures of the English-speaking world. The method used consists of a combination of the two-stage model constructed by McDonough et al. (2013) and a qualitative content analysis. The three coursebooks were analysed through the theoretical framework of postcolonial theory. The results show that American culture is represented to a higher extent than any other culture in the included fictional works. Because of the discrepancy in representation, American culture was portrayed through various societal issues, living conditions, and cultural features. However, many other cultures of the English-speaking world were barely represented at all. Furthermore, the results show that cultures such as Indian or Irish are not included in all the coursebooks. The lack of fictional texts representing cultures of Africa included in the coursebooks further shows the discrepancy and specific focus on certain parts of the English-speaking world. Solid Gold 1 was the only one of the three coursebooks which included fictional texts discussing all cultures highlighted. Although there is a notable difference in the representation of cultures, and the number of times certain cultures are mentioned, the analysis shows that the coursebooks create many opportunities, through fictional texts, for students to learn about societal issues, cultural features, and living conditions in parts of the world where English is used, meeting the requirements of the Swedish curriculum.

Detection of 3D Genome Folding at Multiple Scales

Akgol-Oksuz, Betul 13 April 2022 (has links)
Understanding 3D genome structure is crucial to learn how chromatin folds and how genes are regulated through the spatial organization of regulatory elements. Various technologies have been developed to investigate genome architecture. These technologies include ligation-based 3C Methodologies such as Hi-C and Micro-C, ligation-based pull-down methods like Proximity Ligation-Assisted ChIP-seq (PLAC Seq) and Paired-end tag sequencing (ChIA PET), and ligation-free methods like Split-Pool Recognition of Interactions by Tag Extension (SPRITE) and Genome Architecture Mapping (GAM). Although these technologies have provided great insight into chromatin organization, a systematic evaluation of these technologies is lacking. Among these technologies, Hi-C has been one of the most widely used methods to map genome-wide chromatin interactions for over a decade. To understand how the choice of experimental parameters determines the ability to detect and quantify the features of chromosome folding, we have first systematically evaluated two critical parameters in the Hi-C protocol: cross-linking and digestion of chromatin. We found that different protocols capture distinct 3D genome features with different efficiencies depending on the cell type (Chapter 2). Use of the updated Hi-C protocol with new parameters, which we call Hi-C 3.0, was subsequently evaluated and found to provide the best loop detection compared to all previous Hi-C protocols as well as better compartment quantification compared to Micro-C (Chapter 3). Finally, to understand how the aforementioned technologies (Hi-C, Micro-C, PLAC-Seq, ChIA-PET, SPRITE, GAM) that measure 3D organization could provide a comprehensive understanding of the genome structure, we have performed a comparison of these technologies. We found that each of these methods captures different aspects of the chromatin folding (Chapter 4). Collectively, these studies suggest that improving the 3D methodologies and integrative analyses of these methods will reveal unprecedented details of the genome structure and function.

Aybar Lindley, Lissette, Colchado Pisconti, Diego, Chávez Aguilar, Fiorella, Gonzales Benavides, Silvia, Obando Ponce, Omar 31 January 2017 (has links)
The present investigation raises the need to identify the changes that might or not be given in the process of traditional purchase opposite to the new generations that are about to come, this is stimulated principally for the behavior of the Generation Z. For it, this document is based in the nearby investigation of the target concerning about his behavior in order to know how they choose and buy different brands and in what way they will be able to be fidelize through companies that applies marketing 3.0, which is discussed in the theoretical framework in the chapter 1. The chapter 2 contains the objectives and the main hypothesis of the investigation, which is: The Generation Z consumer is considered as a digital native and maintains a direct contact with the technology, which plays an important role in its day a day. That is why it is possible that the behavior of Generation Z, as consumers, influence the transition from the traditional buying process to one more online. The methodology used for the present investigation, which is in the chapter 3, shows two complementary parts; the qualitative exploratory, which include two depth interviews to experts in topics of digital marketing and consumer behavior which were taken as a base for the accomplishment of two focus group that were performed as a consequence of that first investigation. The first focus was aimed at young people aged 13 to 19 years and the second, to parents of this generation. Finally, a conclusive quantitative investigation was carried out, covering 384 face-to-face surveys. This new segment is a digital native and generator of new content, and also shows new patterns of behavior that differentiate it from the ancestral generations, therefore, analyzing and studying these behavioral characteristics is fundamental to evaluate if the buying process could undergo changes in the not too distant future. This would impact in the retail sector, as the behavior of this new generation would impact other items such as educational, psychological, labor, etc, discussed in the chapter 4. As a result of the research the most relevant characteristics of Generation Z consumer behavior are identified, which allows to know their preferences in relation to how they consume different brands. Finally, as a result of the analysis, presented in the chapter 5, we present the findings and recommendations regarding the possible change in the traditional purchasing process driven by the behavior of this new generation. / Trabajo de Suficiencia Profesional

LEVERAGING INFORMATION RETRIEVAL OVER LINKED DATA

Marx, Edgard Luiz 02 April 2024 (has links)
The Semantic Web has ushered in a vast repository of openly available data across various domains, resulting in over ten thousand Knowledge Graphs (KGs) published under the Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud. However, the exploration of these KGs can be time-consuming and resource-intensive, compounded by issues of availability and duplication across distributed and decentralized databases. Addressing these challenges, this thesis investigates methods for improving information retrieval over Linked Data (LD) through conceptual approaches facilitating access via formal and natural language queries. First, RDFSlice is introduced to efficiently select relevant fragments of RDF data from distributed KGs, demonstrating superior performance compared to conventional methods. Second, a novel distributed and decentralized publishing architecture is proposed to simplify data sharing and querying, enhancing reliability and efficiency. Third, a benchmark for evaluating ranking functions for RDF data is created, leading to the development of new ranking functions such as DBtrends and MIXED-RANK. Fourth, a scoring function based on Term Networks is proposed for interpreting factual queries, outperforming traditional information retrieval methods. Lastly, user interface patterns are discussed, and an extension for semantic search is proposed to improve information access in the face of the vast amounts of data available on the LOD cloud. These contributions collectively address key challenges in accessing and utilizing RDF data, offering insights and solutions to facilitate efficient information retrieval and exploration in the Semantic Web era.

Fintech in a Changing Market and Immersive Web 3.0 World

Muthui, Musangi 04 1900 (has links)
Fintech and Web 3.0 represent two important constructs for an emerging web experience that is decentralized, social, and immersive. When integrating fintech solutions into digital projects, understanding market performance and impact from shocks can inform decisions around integrations as businesses and creators move towards Web 3.0 and emerging use cases that leverage NFTs, smart contracts, extended reality, and blockchain to deliver value. Additionally, fintech and Web 3.0 create new challenges for established firms where peer-to-peer value exchanges happen in real-time without the need for intermediaries and thus provide greater access to resources for disruptors, small enterprises, and creators. This proposal outlines a mixed methods research study that examines fintech performance and how it has responded to market shocks to answer the research question: What is the level of financial performance for fintech? The study is followed by an examination of how technology can power an immersive, decentralized digital experience that transcends borders and device platforms to answer the research question: What is the relationship between fintech and Web 3.0? The ability of fintech to increase banking inclusion and access to capital would be valuable as a facilitator of transactions between brands and peers (P2P) in a Web 3.0 ecosystem. Hence, understanding fintech performance and its relationship to a decentralized Web 3.0 will inform business leaders, creators, and researchers in identifying new use cases that combine both constructs building a more inclusive global value exchange ecosystem. While there is a growing body of knowledge on fintech, much less has been written about Web 3.0 and even less literature exists on the relationship between the two constructs. / Business Administration/Management Information Systems
