El presente estudio examina la vida y el pensamiento de Mijaíl Bakunin. A base de su amplia correspondencia y su extensa obra política se analiza la evolución intelectual que llevó a este extraordinario hombre desde las posiciones del idealismo filosófico conservador hacia el socialismo libertario radical. Asimismo, el estudio sitúa la agitada trayectoria vital de Bakunin dentro de las dinámicas contrapuestas del desarrollo global durante el siglo XIX. De esta manera, se pone de manifiesto en qué medida la aparición de los movimientos de la izquierda política como el anarquismo y el socialismo estaba relacionada con el auge del nacionalismo que se produjo en aquella época. Además, el estudio presta particular atención a la influencia que los modelos literarios del Romanticismo ejercieron sobre Bakunin a la hora de proyectar su vida como una empresa de continuo autodesarrollo personal, con el objetivo de alcanzar la máxima libertad posible para sí mismo y los demás. / This study explores the life and thought of Mikhail Bakunin. Based on his copious correspondence and his extensive political oeuvre it analyzes the intellectual development that led this extraordinary man from the positions of conservative philosophical Idealism to radical libertarian socialism. The study also places Bakunin’s eventful life story in the context of the conflicting dynamics of global change during the nineteenth century. Thus, it becomes clear to what extent the emergence of left-wing political movements such as anarchism and socialism was related to the rise of nationalism that occurred at that time. Moreover, the study pays special attention to the influence that literary models of Romanticism had on Bakunin’s projection of life as an open-ended enterprise of continuous personal self-development aimed at achieving most possible freedom for himself and other people.

Creativitat i subversió en les reescriptures de Joan Sales se centra en la figura de l’editor i novel•lista Joan Sales (1912-1983) i pretén ressituar l’autor d’Incerta glòria dins del panorama literari català a partir d’una diversificació dels punts de mira des dels quals esdevé possible realitzar-ne un estudi. Com a base, s’han utilitzat les teories traductològiques de finals del segle XX, elaborades per autors com André Lefevere i Susan Bassnett, que situen la traducció, l’edició, l’adaptació, la crítica literària i la historiografia dins del terreny de la reescriptura creativa i atorguen un poder subversiu a totes aquestes activitats. Així, doncs, s’ha intentat modificar la tendència que, històricament, havia dut a considerar de manera negativa les reescriptures de Sales. Sota el paraigua teòric de la reescriptura, les manipulacions, els canvis i les intervencions esdevenen una eina que contribueix a l’evolució literària d’una cultura. / Creativity and subversion in Joan Sales’ rewritings focuses on the editor and novelist Joan Sales (1912-1983) and seeks to relocate the author of Uncertain Glory in the Catalan literary scene from a diversification of points of view from which it becomes possible to make an study. Translation theories of the late twentieth century have been used as a basis, written by authors such as André Lefevere and Susan Bassnett, who consider translation, edition, adaptation, critics and historiography inside the field of creative rewriting and give a subversive power to all these activities. So, the goal has been try to change the trend that historically had considered negatively Sales’ rewritings. Under the umbrella of the theory of rewriting, manipulations, changes and interventions become a tool which contributes to the development of literary culture.

En esta investigación exploramos la historia de la recepción del poeta, artista y visionario inglés William Blake (1757-1827), indagando en los diversos aspectos de la concreción de su obra en su propio tiempo, a través del siglo XIX y las primeras décadas del siglo XX. A partir de una perspectiva metodológica comparada e interdisciplinaria, este estudio considera los contextos críticos y artísticos en los cuales el foco en la dimensión visionaria de la figura y/o la obra de Blake se hace particularmente relevante. Hemos atendido a los aspectos específicos de su recepción crítica y artística en la obra de los simbolistas ingleses y franceses del siglo XIX (particularmente en la obra de Odilon Redon); en el Círculo de Eranos y la psicología profunda a comienzos del XX (C. G. Jung: El Libro Rojo); y finalmente en algunas figuras destacadas del Surrealismo (específicamente en el grupo cercano al Atelier 17 y Max Ernst). / In this research we explore the history of the reception of the English poet, artist and visionary William Blake (1757-1827), considering the various aspects of the reception of his works in his own times, through the 19th century and the early decades of the 20th century. From a comparative and interdisciplinary methodological perspective, this study considers both the artists and the critical contexts in which the focus in the visionary dimension of the figure and / or the work of Blake were particularly relevant. We have attended to the specific critical and artistic aspects of his reception in the works of the English and French Symbolists in the nineteenth century (particularly in Odilon Redon's work); in the Eranos Circle and depth psychology of the early twentieth century (C. G. Jung: The Red Book), and finally in some of the important figures of Surrealism (specifically in the group close to the Atelier 17 and in Max Ernst).

Notre thèse se propose d’inventorier les thèmes qui découlent du motif des « eaux dormantes » −motif qui es un des traits caractéristiques de la littérature francophone décadente et symboliste (1860-1910)− dans une perspective résolument comparatiste et à l’aide des humanités numériques. Il s’agit d’une étude thématique fort instructive qui embrasse plusieurs aires culturelles et qui voudrait ouvrir un dialogue entre les chercheurs d’autres disciplines traditionnelles (telles que la mythocritique, les études de l’intertextualité, les études de l’imaginaire, l’histoire littéraire) et les théoriciens des plus récentes humanités numériques, au bénéfice de leur complémentarité. Ainsi, le présent travail explore de façon systématique la réécriture des mythes, des personnages, des cosmogonies et des paysages aquatiques qui s’inscrivent dans la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle, avec un regard particulier sur les oeuvres des symbolistes belges : Eugène Demolder, Georges Eekhoud, Max Elskamp, Iwan Gilkin, Albert Giraud, Théodore Hannon, Grégoire Le Roy, Maurice Maeterlinck, Georges Rodenbach, Charles Van Lerberghe, Emile Verhaeren et Max Waller. En plus de revenir sur une période profusément analysée avec une nouvelle disposition d'esprit et d’après une comparaison différentielle, notre travail constitue une tentative de repenser l’histoire littéraire. Il s’agit d’un « parcours » nourri d’extraits d’oeuvres, accompagné d’une réflexion théorique et empirique sur les applications possibles de l’informatique dans les études littéraires des corpus numérisés. / The purpose of this essay is to make an inventory of themes originated by the literary concept of ‘still waters’, a characteristic feature of Decadentism and Symbolism (1860-1910). By exploring several cultural areas, our aim is to analyze such themes from a comparative perspective and by means of Digital Humanities. The result tries to be a complete and informative topical study, attempting to start a dialogue between researchers from traditional disciplines (such as myth criticism, intertextual studies, studies of the imagination, literary history) and theorists of the fairly recent field of Digital Humanities, to the benefit of their complementarity. We systematically explore the rewriting of myths, characters, cosmologies and waterscapes that emerged in France and Belgium in the second half of the nineteenth century, with a particular focus on Belgian authors : Eugène Demolder, Georges Eekhoud, Max Elskamp, Iwan Gilkin, Albert Giraud, Théodore Hannon, Grégoire Le Roy, Maurice Maeterlinck, Georges Rodenbach, Charles Van Lerberghe, Emile Verhaeren and Max Waller. In addition to rethinking, with a new mindset, about a profusely analyzed period, we also attempt to develop a different view on the history of literature and its paradigms. This study includes many extracts of literary works, together with a theoretical and empirical cogitation of potential computer applications in the literary studying of digitalized works.

El presente trabajo pretende proponer un modelo de análisis de adaptaciones de textos literarios al cómic. Por medio de la articulación de cuatro ejes dinámicos planteados como la base sobre la que se construye la enunciación discursiva de la versión, pretendemos indagar la posibilidad de que dicha obra, en su calidad de reescritura de una fuente determinada, deje entrever la lectura del adaptador, inscrita en las estructuras que dan forma a la adaptación. Por medio de este análisis, queremos identificar los recursos propios del medio secuencial empleados para “resolver” las incompatibilidades de lenguajes que surgen en toda adaptación de un medio a otro. La relevancia de esta investigación radica en el hecho de que no hay estudios que hayan reunido sistemáticamente todas las adaptaciones de Alberto Breccia en un corpus. Además, puede aportar nuevas perspectivas sobre la teoría de adaptación al cómic, campo escasamente explorado hasta el momento. / This thesis intends to propose an analysis model for adaptations from literary texts into comics. Through the articulation of four dynamic axes raised as the basis on which the discursive enunciation of the version is built, we intend to investigate the possibility that an adaptation, as a rewritten particular source, shows a glimpse of the adapter’s reading of the source text, that reading inserted in the structures that shape adaptation. Through this analysis, our intention is to identify the resources of the sequential media used to "solve" incompatibilities that arise in any adaptation from one medium to another. This research is relevant because there aren’t any other studies that have systematically gathered all adaptations of Alberto Breccia in a corpus. In addition, this research can provide new perspectives on the theory of comic adaptation, a barely explored field so far.

Esta tesis pretende analizar en profundidad la obra de Miguel de Unamuno, Teresa. Rimas de un poeta desconocido, presentadas y presentado por Miguel de Unamuno (1924), sin duda una de las obras unamunianas que menos atención ha merecido por parte de lectores, académicos y críticos. La metodología seguida en este trabajo se advierte fácilmente en la propia estructura de la tesis, dividida en dos partes bien diferenciadas: el marco teórico-conceptual y el análisis específico de Teresa. La primera parte repasa la evolución del concepto de mímesis artística, hasta llegar a los más actuales estudios acerca de la intertextualidad literaria, en atención a que Teresa aparece bajo el patrón imitativo. Además, aborda la noción de estilo: una pieza fundamental tanto para el pensamiento y la concepción poética de Unamuno, como en las corrientes lingüísticas y de crítica literaria que aparecen en Europa en los albores del siglo XX. En la segunda parte, la tesis se dedica exclusivamente en el análisis de Teresa: el proceso de redacción y recepción, sus diferentes ediciones y las partes del texto (“Prólogo”, “Presentación”, “Rimas”, “Notas”, “Despedida”). Esta revisión de la estructura global de Teresa pone de relieve la importancia de su parte poética, y justifica el minucioso comentario de cada una de las noventa y ocho poesías que la componen más su epístola final. Teresa no es, en absoluto, una obra menor de Unamuno, sino que condensa el vastísimo y complejo pensamiento del autor, y da cumplida cuenta de sus inquietudes vitales y literarias. / This doctoral thesis is intended to analyse in depth Miguel de Unamuno’s work, Teresa. Rimas de un poeta desconocido, presentadas y presentado por Miguel de Unamuno (1924), undoubtedly one of the unamunian works to which readers, scholars and literary critics less attention have devoted. The methodology followed in this research is easily observed in its own structure, divided in two well distinguished parts: the theoretical frame and the specific analysis of Teresa. The first part goes through the evolution of the concept of artistic imitation, until the most recent studies about the literary intertextuality, in attention that Teresa appears under the imitative pattern. Besides, the notion of style is considered: a fundamental principle, both for Unamuno’s thought and poetical conception, as in the linguistic and literary criticism trends that appeared in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. In the second part, the doctoral thesis is exclusively devoted to the analysis of Teresa: the redaction and reception process of the work, its different editions and the parts of the text (“Preface”, “Presentation”, “Poems”, “Notes”, “Farewell”). This revision of the structure of Teresa as a whole emphasizes the importance of its poetry, and justifies the very detailed commentary of each of the ninety-eight poems that make it up and the final epistle. Teresa is absolutely not a minor work of Unamuno; on the contrary, this work condenses the huge and complex thought of its author, and it gives a good account of Unamuno’s literary and essential anxieties.

Aquesta tesi tracta l’obscuritat poètica entesa com a fenomen lligat a la comprensió i a la recerca i creació de sentit. Es parteix de tres corpus textuals: una selecció de cants d’Ausiàs March (València, s. XV), les Soledades de Luis de Góngora (Còrdova, s. XVII) i Ossi di seppia i Le occasioni d’Eugenio Montale (Gènova, s. XX). El primer objectiu és analitzar la qüestió de l’obscuritat en cada un dels tres casos, evaluant-ne tant els marcs i mecanismes, com les raons i els impactes en el passat i en el present. El segon, és posar en diàleg les pluralitats i les diferències (diferents llengües, èpoques i tradicions; però també diferents històries de la recepció), que mostren les inesgotables maneres de donar-se de l’obscuritat dintre del marc de la creació poètica, proposant, finalment, què ens pot continuar donant avui. / This dissertation deals with the poetics of obscurity phenomenon related to the understanding and the research and creation of meaning. It is based on three collections of writings: a selection of songs by Ausiàs March (Valencia, s. XV), the Soledades by Luis de Góngora (Cordova, s. XVII) and Ossi di Seppia and Le Occasions by Eugenio Montale (Genoa, s. XX). The first objective is to analyze the question of obscurity in each of these three cases, evaluating their frameworks and mechanisms, including the reasons and impacts either in the past or in the present. The second is to put the pluralities and differences (different languages, periods and traditions, but different stories of receipt) into a dialogue, showing the obscurity’s endless ways to be within the framework of poetic creation, also suggesting what it can continue to give to us today.

Junto al poema en prosa, el género poético que mejor representa la modernidad literaria y el pensamiento contemporáneo (fragmentario, caótico y sumido en su propia crisis de identidad) es el poema extenso. El presente proyecto de investigación pretende definir los rasgos ontológicos y aspectos semánticos de esta modalidad genérica, demostrando –frente al poema largo tradicional– su componente lírico, criterios diferenciadores y capacidades expresivas propias. Además de una propuesta de clasificación y un canon del poema extenso occidental, con este trabajo se intenta demostrar cómo su extensión responde a necesidades literarias tales como la densidad temática y la complejidad estructural de la obra. Tras la formulación genérica, en la segunda parte de proyecto se estudia la articulación de este modo expresivo en tres textos poéticos paradigmáticos del ámbito hispánico contemporáneo: Espacio de Juan Ramón Jiménez; Metropolitano de Carlos Barral; y El libro, tras la duna de Andrés Sánchez Robayna. / The poetic genre that, together with the prose poem, best represents the literary modernity and the contemporary thought (fragmentary, chaotic and lost in its own identity crisis) is the long poem. The first section of this doctoral dissertation aims to define the ontological features and semantic aspects of this genre and –opposite to the traditional long poem– to show its lyricism, distinguishing criteria and its own expressive abilities. In addition to a proposal of classification and canon of the western long poem, this research aims to prove that the length of this expressive mode meets literary needs such as the thematic density, the structural complexity or its planning. After the generic formulation, the second section analyses three paradigmatic long poems of the literary Spanish context: Espacio of Juan Ramón Jiménez; Metropolitano of Carlos Barral; and El libro, tras la duna of Andrés Sánchez Robayna.

Esta investigación analiza las Obras Narrativas Digitales, o creaciones basadas en tecnologías digitales que presentan narración y narratividad. En primer lugar, la tesis desarrolla una descripción de las Filiaciones o genealogía de las Obras Narrativas Digitales, en lo que respecta a la literatura, el cine, el vídeo y el contexto postmediático. En segundo lugar, se diseña un Sistema de Análisis de Obras Narrativas Digitales para compararlas con sus Filiaciones. En tercer lugar, se sugiere Aplicar este Sistema de Análisis a Obras Narrativas Digitales y realizar así Estudios de Caso. Por lo tanto, esta tesis se centra en la vertiente narrativa de las creaciones digitales, combinando los ámbitos teóricos y metodológicos de la Comunicación, el Arte y la Genealogía. / This research analyzes Digital Narrative Works, or creations based on digital technologies presenting both narration and narrativity. Firstly, this dissertation develops a description of the Filiations or genealogy of the Digital Narrative Works, regarding literature, cinema, video and the postmedia context. Secondly, an Analysis System is designed for Digital Narrative Works, to compare them with their Filiations. And thirdly, it is suggested to Apply this Analysis System to Digital Narrative Works, in order to conduct Case Studies. Thus, this dissertation focuses on the narrative aspect of digital creations, combining the theoretical and methodological areas of Communication, Art and Genealogy.

Los manuscritos ilustrados que conservan las obras de Chrétien de Troyes, poeta del siglo XII y uno de los primeros autores de romans con tema artúrico, permiten formular nuevas hipótesis acerca de la práctica de la lectura en el Medioevo. A partir de un soporte como el manuscrito ilustrado, en el que coexistían la representación pictórica y el texto escrito, leer pudo resultar una experiencia epistemológica compleja, en la que diversas facultades –percepción, imaginación, memoria y razonamiento– colaboraban para vincular las palabras con las imágenes y extraer interpretaciones y significados de dicha relación. Con base en esta premisa, la tesis elucida y plantea la idea de héroe artúrico que cabe derivar de un ejercicio de lectura semejante, es decir, uno que vincule la concepción del héroe en la obra de Chrétien con las representaciones del mismo en las miniaturas de los manuscritos. Lo anterior aporta una nueva concepción del héroe artúrico, a partir de la cual cabe explicar la transformación que se manifiesta en su naturaleza cuando se inserta en el ámbito del roman medieval. Ofrece también elementos generales para el estudio de la figura heroica y sus representaciones. / The illustrated manuscripts that preserve the writings of Chrétien de Troyes, Twelfth century poet and one of the first authors of Arthurian romances, may inspire new hypothesis about the practice of reading in the Middle Ages. Based on a material support like the illustrated manuscript, in which pictorial representation and written text coexist, the act of reading could have been a complex epistemological experience, that required the collaboration of different faculties –perception, imagination, memory and reason– in order to relate words with images and to extract significance from this relation. Parting from such premise, this thesis elucidates and sets forth the idea of the Arthurian hero that can be derived from an exercise like the previously described, i.e. one that relates Chretien’s conception of the Arthurian hero with the representations of the courtly knight in the miniatures. This will lead to a new way of understanding the Arthurian hero, which may explain the transformation of his nature in the medieval romances. It will also give general elements for the study of the heroic figure and its representations.
