In order to try to understanding the humorous symbolism of the narrative, this research is based on the thematic trends related to religious and profane traditions arising from Medieval Times. This paper aims to present some similarities between the Brazilian culture and the Middle Ages, especially verifying the residues, that is, what has remained from that imaginary period in the novel. The research method used was Roberto Pontes´s Theory of Residuality, which is based on the study of residues from a near or distant past, which remain for some time in a certain text or culture. According to this theory, the cultural indicators are present in the minds of the members of a society in a crystallized way and these indicators are originated in the cultural hybridism between Brazil and other peoples. / O Romance d’a Pedra do Reino e o Príncipe do Sangue do Vai-e-Volta, livro de Ariano Suassuna, é o corpus desta dissertação. A fim de buscar entendimento da simbologia risível da narrativa, a investigação se pauta nas vertentes temáticas da tradição religiosa e da profana decorrentes do medievo. No trabalho nos propomos a apresentar algumas aproximações entre a cultura brasileira contemporânea e a Idade Média, verificando, especificamente, os resíduos, ou melhor, o que restou, permaneceu no romance, do imaginário mediévico. O método de investigação é o proporcionado pela Teoria da Residualidade, de Roberto Pontes, que tem como premissa estudar os resíduos de um passado próximo ou distante, os quais permanecem de um tempo em outro numa narrativa ou cultura. Segundo os pressupostos dessa teoria, os indicadores culturais estão presentes na mentalidade de uma sociedade sob forma cristalizada, e decorrem da hibridação cultural havida entre o Brasil e os demais povos.

Neste trabalho, estudamos o imaginário ficcional no Romance d’A Pedra do Reino e o príncipe do sangue do vai-e-volta, obra do escritor paraibano Ariano Suassuna, observando a profícua comunhão entre as imagens advindas, ora das raízes populares da cultura nordestina, ora de uma diversidade de outras obras pertencentes ao cânone da cultura erudita ocidental. Romancista, poeta e criador de uma nova dramaturgia nordestina, Ariano Suassuna foi, também, idealizador do Movimento Armorial, iniciado em Recife, no ano de 1970. Esse Movimento resulta um projeto cultural único, comprometido com a associação de diferentes artes, de modo a relacionar a produção popular e a erudita. No percurso que empreendemos pela obra de Suassuna, destacamos o Romance d’A Pedra do Reino, antes de tudo, como um compêndio narrativo do ideário Armorial, e tal prerrogativa tornou-se um dos nossos itinerários na travessia crítica do romance. Neste trabalho, propomos pensar o que é e como se constitui o imaginário no contexto de uma obra ficcional, percebendo, especificamente, a presença do narrador como uma consciência imaginante capaz de determinar forma e substância às imagens coligidas em sua ação imaginativa (narração). Com o estudo das memórias eruditas, populares, individuais e coletivas, mobilizadas na composição de um imaginário sertanejo, pudemos verificar, no contexto do Romance d’A Pedra do Reino, a fusão e a figurativização estética de diferentes fontes memoriais, responsáveis por constituírem um substrato necessário e fundamental à composição do Romance. Destacamos, ao fim da pesquisa, a compilação de uma tradição erudita e popular em diferentes gêneros ... / The imaginary is characterized, among other acceptations, as a set of mental productions that turns into artworks. The visual and linguistic images from the our imaginary are responsible for assigning coherence and dynamism to set. In this research we study the fictional imaginary in Romance d’A Pedra do Reino e o príncipe do sangue do vai-e-volta, written by Ariano Suassuna a brazilian writer from Paraíba. In his creation it´s possible to note the fruitful communion between the images that comes sometimes from the popular roots of northeastern culture, sometimes from a diversity of other works belonging to the canon of western classical culture. Novelist, poet, and creator of a new northeastern dramaturgy, Ariano Suassuna was also creator of the Armorial Movement, that started in Recife, in 1970. So we believe this movement results in a unique cultural project, engaged with the matchup of different arts, so relate the popular and erudite production. On route that we undertake through this Suassuna creation, we highlight the Romance d’A Pedra do Reino, first of all, as a narrative compendium of Armorial ideas, and this prerogative has become one of our itineraries in the critical crossing along this novel. In this work, we propose to think what it is and how it is the imaginary in the context of a fictional work, specifically we also realizing the presence of the narrator as an imaginative consciousness able to determine the form and substance to the images collected in its imaginative action (narration). So, with the study of erudite, popular, individual and collective memories, we mobilized the composition of a backlander imaginary. We also observed, in Romance d’A Pedra do Reino´s context, the fusion and a figuratively aesthetics from different sources memorials.
