Applying the value grid model; an examination of Google

van Vugt, Maik, Jacobsen, Ole January 2017 (has links)
In the last twenty years, Google had a tremendous growth, from a small project of two PhD students to one of the most valuable companies on the globe. This growth is characterised by the versatile of the company, next to its search engine, Google explored many different value chains along the way. In this study, the value grid model is used to examine their movements. It can be stated that Google used, and uses, the paths/dimension as implied by Pil and Holweg (2006) to explore new opportunity and demand. The main reason why Google is able to do so is because of its board and management, who are innovative, and open-minded. Next to the top management is the appearance of Google in many different sectors and value chains a reason of their growth. The variety in businesses allows them to create a “Google experience”, and thus a competitive advantage in comparison with their main competitors who do not have this ability.

Contribution à la compréhension des finalités de l’essaimage. Vers une modélisation de la stratégie d’essaimage : cas des grandes entreprises tunisiennes. / A contribution to the understanding of the purposes of the spin-off strategy toward a model of spin-off strategy : the large tunisian companie as a case study

Ben Hamed Amara, Anji 07 January 2015 (has links)
This research aims to show the importance of spin-off as a tool around which various organizational strategies can be articuled. In this respect, a number of strategic coalitions and close links are etablished among the different entities constituting spin-off. So, the nature and intensity of these relationships depend on the nature of the adopted spin-off strategy as well as the endogenous rationale associated with it. Thus, in order to shape a better understanding of the procedure, this research suggests, based on a theorical and typological framework, a practical outline which highlights the multiple dimensions of spin-off. Consequently, an abductive research strategy based on multiple case studies has been implemented.

Regulation in Software Engineering

Arciniegas-Mendez, Maryi 18 May 2015 (has links)
Collaboration has become an integral part of software engineering. The widespread availability and adoption of social channels has led to a culture where developers participate and collaborate more frequently with one another. While collaboration in software engineering has been studied extensively, models and frameworks do not adequately capture how development team members “regulate” themselves, one another, and their projects. I borrow the term “regulate” from the learning sciences to refer to mindful processes developers engage in to determine what tasks they need to complete and who should be involved, what their goals are relative to those tasks, how they should meet their goals, what domain knowledge needs to be manipulated, and why they use a particular approach or tool. This research starts by borrowing constructs from the theory of regulated learning in the learning science domain, adapting and extending them as a model of collaboration for software engineering: the Model of Regulation. This model was composed to capture how individuals self-regulate their tasks, knowledge and motivation, how they regulate one another, and how they achieve a shared understanding of project goals and required tasks. The model provides a vocabulary for comparing and analyzing collaboration tools and processes. In this thesis, I present the Model of Regulation as a new and complementary theoretical model of collaboration for software engineering and showcase its potential by using the model to analyze features of a collaborative tool, gain insights into an open-source software development community and to create an instrument that investigates about collaboration practices and tool support in units of collaboration (e.g., group, project, community). / Graduate

Contributions to ensembles of models for predictive toxicology applications : on the representation, comparison and combination of models in ensembles

Makhtar, Mokhairi January 2012 (has links)
The increasing variety of data mining tools offers a large palette of types and representation formats for predictive models. Managing the models then becomes a big challenge, as well as reusing the models and keeping the consistency of model and data repositories. Sustainable access and quality assessment of these models become limited to researchers. The approach for the Data and Model Governance (DMG) makes easier to process and support complex solutions. In this thesis, contributions are proposed towards ensembles of models with a focus on model representation, comparison and usage. Predictive Toxicology was chosen as an application field to demonstrate the proposed approach to represent predictive models linked to data for DMG. Further analysing methods such as predictive models comparison and predictive models combination for reusing the models from a collection of models were studied. Thus in this thesis, an original structure of the pool of models was proposed to represent predictive toxicology models called Predictive Toxicology Markup Language (PTML). PTML offers a representation scheme for predictive toxicology data and models generated by data mining tools. In this research, the proposed representation offers possibilities to compare models and select the relevant models based on different performance measures using proposed similarity measuring techniques. The relevant models were selected using a proposed cost function which is a composite of performance measures such as Accuracy (Acc), False Negative Rate (FNR) and False Positive Rate (FPR). The cost function will ensure that only quality models be selected as the candidate models for an ensemble. The proposed algorithm for optimisation and combination of Acc, FNR and FPR of ensemble models using double fault measure as the diversity measure improves Acc between 0.01 to 0.30 for all toxicology data sets compared to other ensemble methods such as Bagging, Stacking, Bayes and Boosting. The highest improvements for Acc were for data sets Bee (0.30), Oral Quail (0.13) and Daphnia (0.10). A small improvement (of about 0.01) in Acc was achieved for Dietary Quail and Trout. Important results by combining all the three performance measures are also related to reducing the distance between FNR and FPR for Bee, Daphnia, Oral Quail and Trout data sets for about 0.17 to 0.28. For Dietary Quail data set the improvement was about 0.01 though, but this data set is well known as a difficult learning exercise. For five UCI data sets tested, similar results were achieved with Acc improvement between 0.10 to 0.11, closing more the gaps between FNR and FPR. As a conclusion, the results show that by combining performance measures (Acc, FNR and FPR), as proposed within this thesis, the Acc increased and the distance between FNR and FPR decreased.

Alokační model projektu Miss Sport / Allocation model of Miss Sport project

Kyselý, Ondřej January 2010 (has links)
The goal of the diploma thesis is to create allocation model for Miss Sport project. This project is a platform, which allows effective association of sponsors and female athletes, who are members of the project. It results in decision tree, whose biggest advantage is in transparency and rate of decision making. One of the objectives is to analyze most important criteria, which are necessary to segment female athletes. One part is a list of aspects, which are important to sponsorship, but they are not included in allocation model directly. Research target is focused on evaluation of attractiveness of female athletes as one of the criteria, which are important for potential sponsors.

Implementace podnikového modelu kompetencí / Implementation of the business competency model

Riegerová, Kamila January 2010 (has links)
The thesis focuses on the implementation of the Business Competency Model in the retail chain, whose sole owner is the German parent company. In the theoretical part are - based on literature research - defined the basic concepts needed for further understanding of the thesis. The practical part first explains the cultural differences between Czechs and Germans, later the findings are used to design a competency model for the Czech Republic. The methods of semi structured interviews and pilot certification are used. In the chapters 5 and 6 are described the steps of the original German model, which is later adapted to conditions in the Czech Republic. Definitions of risk that may arise during the phases of the project and possible ways for their elimination are also considered. The thesis concludes with recommendations for the use of models in the future.

Efektivnost záloh na jednocestné nápojové obaly v hospodářské praxi České republiky / Effectiveness of a deposit system on one-way containers in Czech republic

Slavík, Jan January 2003 (has links)
The reasons of the contemporaly regulation in the waste management regarding the theoretical basis (on that the regulation is built) are the main objectives of this work. Because of high induced costs of the erroneous state measures built on wrong expectations in the economy and because of less effectiveness and efficiency of these measures this analysis is very important. The test of induced costs should be accomplished on the example of the deposit system on one-way containers (PET bottles and cans), which should be implemented into the public law in the Czech republic in next few years. Hardly any measure in the waste management is provoking so intensive diskussion, as the deposit system on some beverages does. What is the main reason? Especially the rise of abatement costs by subjects influenced by the deposit system and the influence on the system of separate collection. The deposit system and the separate collection are competitive systems because of the reciprocal relationship. Regarding the driving forces of the regulation the main goal of this work is the modelling of costs and benefits of the deposit system in the Czech republic and the analysis of the decision making proces of affected subjects.
