The Relationship Between Abilities and Perceived Everyday Intelligence in Older Adults

Patterson, Marla K. (Marla Kay) 12 1900 (has links)
This study examined the relationship between perceptions of intellectual functioning and measures of cognitive abilities, personality variables and sociodemographic information. One hundred and fifty-two older community residing adults were asked to define their perception of intelligence by completing a questionnaire that asked the extent to which a variety of tasks are: functionally important, contribute to feelings of intellectual vitality and are the object of worry or concern. They also estimated their skill at performing each task. The hypothesis that cognitive abilities would best predict perceptions of cognitive functioning was moderately supported. Personality variables, specifically anxiety, were more predictive of the meaning variables than abilities.

The Effects of Imaging Ability, Guided Imagery, and Source of Themes on Interview Verbal Behavior

Wixson, Sandra Werre 12 1900 (has links)
Eighty four female undergraduate students participated in a psychotherapy analog study to determine the effects of imagery ability, guided imagery therapy treatments, and personal versus supplied constructs upon self-disclosure variables in a 2 x 3 x 2 Anova design, with repeated measures on the final factor. Dependent variables were measured by reaction time, total talk time, speech duration, silence quotient, and Doster's (1971) Self-Disclosure Rating Scale. Subjects were divided into two imagery ability levels on the basis of local mean scores on Sheehan's (1967) modification of Betts' (1909) Questionnaire upon Mental Imagery. Three treatment procedures were employed: a guided focal imagery treatment, which encouraged imagery involving the interpersonal topics to be discussed, a guided relaxation imagery treatment which used standard sensory relaxation scenes, and a treatment which imparted ambiguous instructions. The final factor was repeated measures of the eight negative topics the subjects were asked to discuss. Four were chosen from the subjects' Role Construct Repertory Test grid (Kelly, 1955; Landfield, 1971), and four were selected from the Semantic Differential (Snider & Osgood, 1969).

A Kinematic Analysis of the Baseball Batting Swings Involved in Opposite-Field and Same-Field Hitting

Pfautsch, Eric W. 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to examine selected mechanical factors involved in hitting a baseball to the same and opposite fields. Special emphasis was placed on an identification of those factors which distinguish players of different hitting abilities. Twenty male college level baseball players, ten in each of two groups, hit six pitched baseballs, three each to two assigned areas of the playing field. The movement patterns for the opposite field and same field batting swings appeared to be similar in form with differences between the two swings due to (a) differences in the angular displacements at the left wrist and left elbow joints and (b) differences in the temporal characteristics.

Vliv terapie metodou Vojtovy reflexní lokomoce na funkční schopnosti imobilních seniorů / The influence of therapy by Vojta reflex locomotion method on functional abilities of immobile seniors

Černá, Gabriela January 2008 (has links)
This project assesses effects of four -week active rehabilitation combined with Vojta reflex stimulation on mobility of bed-bound seniors. Sixteen female patients were divided into two groups of eight members, i.e. tested group and control group. Both groups were put through training focused on self-support, maintaining or enhancement of range of movement, strengthening of weak muscle groups, stability training, practicing sitting up and lying down from sitting position, and walking in the high walking frame in the case of stronger patients. Besides that the tested group underwent Vojta reflex stimulation (global model of reflex turning), coordination and stability exercise and exercise with rehabilitation tools (elastic band, over ball, small ball, water bottle). In the beginning and in the end of the project the EMS (Elderly Mobility Scale), BI (Barthel Index), and MMSE (Mini-mental State Examination) scales were tested as well as ability to turn from back to side and stability in the sitting position. Statistical comparability of both groups was proved true in the beginning of the therapy by Mann-Whitney test. There was a noticeable tendency towards higher probability of enhancing measured scores in the tested group compared to the control group after the therapy. In case of the EMS this probability was...

Hodnocení individuálních a skupinových herních dovedností u hráčů AC Sparta Praha U 12 ( ročník 2002) / Evalution individual and group gaming skills of players at AC Sparta Praha U 12 (Year 2002)

Kovář, Jan January 2014 (has links)
Title of the thesis: Evaluation of individual and group gaming skills of players at AC Sparta Praha U12 (Year 2002) Objectives: To determine the error of players in matches AC Sparta Praha U 12 from the perspective of both quantity and quality Method used: Observational analysis with the method of indirect observation. This is a joint research. Results: Using the indirect observational method on AC Sparta Praha U12, I have found out that during 6 games, players had made in total 431 mistakes. Out of all, the most common mistake was pass - 136 errors (31,55%), followed by the circumvention of the teammate - 73 errors (16, 93%). I have noticed a comparable number of errors in takeover - 43 errors (9, 98%) and while handling the ball - 45 errors (10, 44%). From team activities I observed an error while defending an opponent along with one teammate - 14 errors (3, 25%) and ensuring teammate - 26 mistakes (6, 03%). From the quality point of view, the greatest problem is the sense for the ball, when they were not able to choose the right strength or while processing the ball not being able to cushion the ball. Another cause of errors was pressing on an opponent. When opponents did not give the players of Sparta enough time and space for a game, they had a big problem to resolve the situation properly....

Pěknice, Matěj January 2014 (has links)
Title: The issues of diagnosing young pupils in football Objective: The aim of the thesis is to find out the improvement or disimprovement of fitness and technical skills during the preparative period in football and the comparison of these results with common population and with other sportsmen at the age from 11 to 12. Method: The tested group were 19 players at the age from 11 to 12 (year of birth 2002) who play the pupil's league. This group came through a 3 - month training course in the preparative period. The players submitted the entry tests, the training course and afterwards they were tested with final tests that were equal to the entry tests. Results: The results part contains a concrete evaluation and comparison with the results by other authors concerning with similar issues. The final results are drawn up in charts, graphically depicted and evaluated. Conclusion: The diagnosing of fitness abilities and technical skills is an important part of the training process because it offers the coach a feedback from the players. The coach can focus on the professionall growth of individual players and can get to know which areas in the training process should be improved. Key words: Football, young pupils, biological age, fitness abilities, coordination skills, technical skills, fitness...

Analýza postupů při stimulaci silových schopností u dětí a mládeže / Practice analysis of development of Strength Abilities in Childhood and Teens

Schröder, Patrik January 2012 (has links)
Title: Practice Analysis of Stimulation of Strength Abilities in Childhood and Teens. Objectives: The primary objective of this thesis is to create a body of information about this topic, which can then serve as a source of theoretic basis for trainers, fitness instructors and PE teachers. While working with young people to gain information about methods used by them in Czech fitness centres, which then will be compared to general recommendations. Methods: The analysis of recent and actual technical literature, which is dealing with similar questiones, has been used during the methodolgy. Another research method of this thesis is for the participants to assess whether they follow correct procedures by means of a target group survey. The assessment of these procedures should be compared with gained data from target group and theoretical methodology gained by analysis of the literature. Results: Stimulation of strength abilities in childhood and teens is a propriate activity, but only if respecting correct procedures. There are some incorrect procedures followed by youth in Czech fitness centres as outcome of the research. Keywords: strength, strength abilities, children, youth

Porozumění číslu u dětí v první třídě základní školy / Number sense among children in first grade of elementary school

Veselá, Martina January 2012 (has links)
The whole thesis has been the view on the level of the understanding to the number among children at first grade of the elementary school. The beginning part focuses on the general summary of the points related to the main subject. This means the developing of cognitive functions at the time when children start attending school, summary of the technical terms connected with mathematical abilities and describing the development of the mathematical abilities at the first grade. The research applies to the topics in the field of mathematical abilities, which are relatively new in the Czech Republic. I tried to describe the number sense among children at the first grade, their strategies during solving the tasks and also to describe the measure of their math anxiety. Another outcome is finding out the dependence of results of the powers of intellect test, number knowledge test and the math anxiety measure. My research was realized under the patronage of the research realized at the Australian University, Sydney. The conclusion of the thesis focuses on the suggestions how to support the children's mathematical abilities development before they start attending school. The translation of two research methods is also the partial result. Key words: number sense, math anxiety, mathematical abilities
