For a better understanding of the subject, our research was not limited to the eight years of the PT government, but moved back to the historical process of the society formation in Acre. Emphases are given to the changes in the party s political framework of the state of Acre that took place with the PT rise to power, the government s accomplishments, its political hegemony and the strategies that the party conceived to be inserted in the ecological movement. The results of the analysis raised questions and doubts on the ability of the governments elected with strong popular appeal and a progressive political discourse have to make by means of politics the necessary changes in the social realities from where they emerge. The forest that covers the Acre territory was the scenario; the actors were the remaining Indians of the tribal population that lived in Acre, the rubber tappers and the leaders who arose with the struggle of this people struggle and others that have grown inside the party s political framework in the state. They produced a government that called himself the government of the forest. This study sought to understand the range of this term and its implications in the understanding of politics in Amazon and the alternatives for a balanced coexistence of men, nature and the governments / Este trabalho tem como objetivo fazer a analise das ações e discurso de poder montado pelo Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) e as razões que levaram o PT acreano a se tornar hegemônico no período de janeiro de 1999 janeiro de 2007. Para uma melhor compreensão do objeto, a nossa investigação não se limitou aos oito anos do governo petista, mas retrocedeu ao processo histórico de formação da sociedade acreana. Destacam-se a mudança no espectro político partidário do Estado do Acre que ocorreu com a ascensão do PT acreano, as realizações do governo, a sua hegemonia política e as estratégias de inserção no movimento ecológico. Os resultados da análise nos levaram a indagações e a dúvidas acerca da capacidade que os governos eleitos com forte apelo popular e um discurso político progressista possuem de realizar por meio da política as transformações necessárias nas realidades sociais das quais eles emergem. A floresta que cobre o território acreano foi o cenário; os índios remanescentes das populações tribais que habitavam o Acre, os seringueiros e as lideranças que surgiram com a luta desses povos e outras que se formaram no interior do quadro político partidário do estado são os atores que produziram um governo que se autodenominou como sendo um governo da floresta. Este trabalho buscou compreender qual o alcance desse termo e as suas implicações no processo de compreensão da política na Amazônia e as alternativas para uma convivência equilibrada dos homens com a natureza e os governos
