OPTIMISM AND PAIN INTERFERENCE IN AGING WOMEN

Judge, Stephanie T. 01 January 2017 (has links)
Pain interferes with people's daily lives and often limits the extent to which they can pursue goals and engages in activities that promote well-being. The present study test how optimism affects and is affected by pain interference and activity among older women. Every three months for two years, middle- and older-age women (N = 199) complete daily diaries at home for a seven-day period, reporting their daily pain, pain interference, and activity. Optimism was measured at baseline and end-of-study. Multilevel models test the between- and within-person relationships among pain, optimism, pain interference and activity. Pain best predicted pain interference and optimism best predicted activity. Accumulated activity and pain interference across the study predicted longitudinal changes in optimism over two years. Optimism may play a protective role in disruptions caused by pain, leading to decreased pain interference and increased activity. In turn, less interference and more activity feed forward into increased optimism, resulting in a cycle that enhances optimism and well-being among older women.

Using Behavioral Skills Training and a Warning Sticker to Teach Children Household Poison Safety Skills

Delong, Jackalynne Jean 06 November 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to assess if Behavioral Skills Training (BST) can be used to train a sticker to function as a discriminative stimulus (Sᴰ) for engaging in household poison safety skills and assess whether this skill generalized to untrained household chemicals that bear the Sᴰ in the form of a sticker. Three typically developing children ages 3 and 5 and their parents participated in this study which took place in their homes. BST effectively taught children to engage in household poison safety skills when they come into contact with the trained household poison(s) labeled with the sticker Sᴰ and this skill generalized to novel household poisons that were also labeled with the sticker Sᴰ; however, some additional BST was required in two cases.

Vliv využití Midline a PICC katétrů na četnost komplikací spojených s žilními vstupy u hospitalizovaných pacientů / Influence of Midline and PICC catheters use on frequency of complications associated with venous lines in hospitalised patients

Hromádková, Jaroslava January 2019 (has links)
Presented dissertation deals with the problematics of optimal choice of venous access for each hospitalized patient at standard internal wards. Introduction of vascular access must be safe for the patient and must allow the fulfillment of all the goals for which it was indicated. In recent years, in addition to peripheral cannulas and non-tunneled central catheters, introduction of midline catheters and PICC gets into everyday practice. The choice of optimal vascular access device since adminition can bring benefit to the patients in the form of decline of complications. Goal: The goal of master thesis was to prove that the use of new types of vascular access devices has influence on the decline of vascular access devices related complication occurence. Methods: To reach the goal we used a quantitative method of data collection during certain time period using created collection protocols. Research investigation took place from November 2017 to February 2018 at two standard wards of Department of Internal Medicine FN Motol. Results: A total of 350 venous access devices (271 peripheral cannulas, 54 midline catheters, 35 PICC) in 187 hospitalized patients was monitored. Prevalence of complications, average length of placement and reasons for extraction of individual vascular access devices was...

Whiplash syndrom - zhodnocení efektu terapie skrze různé fyzioterapeutické přístupy / Whiplash syndrome - evaluation of the therapy effect through various physiotherapeutic approaches

Kadeřábková, Diana January 2018 (has links)
Title: Whiplash syndrome-evaluation of the therapy effect through various physiotherapeutic approaches Objectives: The aim of this diploma thesis is to find out which treatment method is the best suited for the reduction of the convalescence period in an acute whiplash syndrome and how the treatment can the most effectively affect chronic whiplash syndrome. This thesis also summarizes the most recent knowledge regarding this issue. Methods: The diploma thesis is processed in the form of a literary review, it has an analytic descriptive character. The thesis is divided into two parts, the first part deals with the theoretical point of view and the second part deals with the thesis methodology together with results. The theoretical part is dedicated to the problematic itself and physiotherapeutic methods used in the treatment of whiplash syndrome in the form of passive and active approaches. The second part describes a criteria methodology for studies which are included in the thesis. Conclusions of the studies are discussed together with their effects. Results: A total of 23 studies have been selected for this thesis. The recommended threatment for the acute whiplash syndrome is a form of the active approach. From the physiotherapeutical methods perspective - The McKenzie Method and therapeutic...

Pro-aktivní léčebný přístup v neurorehabilitaci integrující vzduchové dlahy a další terapeutické pomůcky. Podtitul: Využití v ergoterapii u dětských pacientů s diagnózou mozková obrna. / Pro-Active approach to Neurorehabilitation intergrating air splints and other therapy tools. Subtitle: Practical application in occupational therapy for children with cerebral palsy.

Opravilová, Dana January 2018 (has links)
The Focus of this study is to present Pro-Active approach and its use in pediatric occupational therapy. The main goal is to find out the effect of the Pro-active approach to neurorehabilitation on function capability of children with spastic quadruparesis form of cerebral palsy. In the first part is presented an overview of the issue of the Pro-active approach, which is made on the basis of a literature search. Nine patients participate in this study. The pro-active approach was applied to all of them. The first case study acted as a pre- research, she had 4 months of therapy with 25 therapies. The other 8 case studies took place for 5-weeks, with occupational therapy 3 times a week. Participants were assessed with the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI), measurement of active and passive range of motion in joints at upper extremity and spasticity. Evaluation of model activities was also included. Comparison of initial and control assessment showed an improvement in all measured score. 6 participants had better score in PEDI. For most participants was the range of active and passive motion increase. The degree of spasticity remained unchanged, but the spasticity angle improved. This study confirms that Pro-active approach has a positive effect on functional capabilities of...

Aktivní a autonomní přístup k péči o zdraví, hledání ideálního pojištěnce / Active and Autonomous Approach to Health Care, Seeking an Ideal Insured

Macháček, Vít January 2018 (has links)
The author of the thesis formulates theoretical starting points, which draws attention to the problems of the health care system. It emphasizes the role of the individual and describes the mechanism by which it is possible to naturally and freely intervene in the health insurance system. A key role in this mechanism is provided by health insurers, which have the potential to moderate the relationship of the insured with the health system. The health insurer can do so by segmenting their insured and product orientation. The construction of the "ideal insured" should contribute to the this segmentation. The construction is based on the active and autonomous approach of the insured, these qualities are highly valued in the theory presented and it is assumed that this approach is desirable in terms of prevention. The author has created a tool to measure this construct. The tool is in the form of a questionnaire that is systematicaly reduced to include as few items as possible so it can be easily used in practice. Practical usability is the primary goal of creating this instrument to measure "ideal insured".
