A metodologia consistiu na reconstrução crítica do contexto histórico, no ajuste conceitual das interpretações possíveis para o jazz, e num conjunto de técnicas de análise musical. A diversidade de técnicas de análise se justifica pela sobreposição entre as técnicas de composição que constituem a poética de North, e esta irredutível complexidade é justamente um dos fatores que dá causa à existência deste trabalho. North é apontado por unanimidade como o compositor que inaugurou uma forma ampla de agenciamento para o jazz, e procuramos aprofundar o conhecimento que se tem acerca da contribuição dele / Abstract: This paper examines the transformation of jazz employment by film music composers in the cinematographic production of the 1950s, taking as reference the soundtrack that Alex North composed for the film A Streetcar Named Desire. The methodology consisted in critical reconstruction of the historical context, conceptual adjustment of the possible interpretations of jazz, and a set of techniques of musical analysis. The diversity of analytical techniques is justified by the overlap between the composition techniques that constitute North's poetic , and that irreducible complexity is an important factor giving rise to the existence of this work. North is appointed unanimously as the composer who ushered in a broadly usage of jazz, and here we seek to deepen the knowledge about his contribution / Doutorado / Fundamentos Teoricos / Doutor em Música

The project simulates the passage of a moving train on the railway when it is passing a level crossing. The project uses hardware and software to simulate the signals that the relays, which are connected to the track, get when a train is passing the level crossing. This simulation is to evaluate a new level crossing system that is called Alex and will be used in Sweden in the future. One set of relays and two Alex systems will be installed at the Swedish school of transportation (Trafikverksskolan) in Ängelholm at a simulated level crossing for testing and training purposes. The project also evaluates the reactions of the relays of any level crossing without running any real train on them.

The dissertation "Modern Israeli short story" focuses on the form of the current short prose studied on the work of four of the renowned Israeli contemporary authors. Employing the method of text comparison we try to illustrate the specifics of the modern Israeli short story. The dissertation contains both the theoretical overview as well as analytical material. The authors were selected according to several criteria: two male and two female writers which enables us to determine whether "gender" plays a role - meaning if each author favors heroes of a specific gender or if they focus only on "female" or "male" contents. We also chose two native Israeli writers and two authors of foreign descent that immigrated to Israel which enabled us to study the linguistic angle and to realize whether the writer's background is reflected in his/her work. The analytical parts as well as the amendments contain a number of samples which prove our conclusions.

This thesis analyze institutional and political circumstances, which allowed and influenced the Scottich referendum of independence in september 2014. It discribes political development and situation in Scottich Parliament and Government from the creation of devolution to 2014. As a metodological tools this thesis use theories of Institutionalism, Multi - level governance and performance politics. It focuses on the pre-referendum debate as well. Main sources are official reports of departments of Her Majesty Government and White paper of Scottish Goverment for the referenda, both are combined with reports from BBC. This practice-based research articulates a performer's perspective from within the rapidly expanding field of mixed music, wherein traditional acoustic instruments are augmented by means of live electronics. Contemporary technology presents a panoply of sonic and interactive affordances and diverse avenues of potential for a contemporary practice of the clarinet. Pursuing a move from a technically passive approach towards self-efficient onstage operation, the author articulates a journey in which a hybridity of instrumental expertise and technical naivety develops into an embedded practice. A framework of humanising is proposed to establish codes of practice based on the embodied skill and priorities of the onstage performer. A pragmatic and personal approach emerges to managing issues of sound, control, and engagement, with an emphasis on viable rehearsal and performance practices that ultimately privilege an ongoing attention to liveness. The portfolio of sound recordings and the observances contained in this thesis contribute to a growing body of performer-led accounts in a rich environment for the development of new creative work and collaboration, and to facilitating access to interactive music for performers wishing to explore the field. A set of case studies trace three broad roles across a spectrum of creative agency within an interdisciplinary practice of the clarinet, situated at a nexus of diverse approaches - from performing composed works (executant interpreter) to non-idiomatic free improvisation (enactive composer), via hybrid works that blur these authorial distinctions (enabled interpreter). Negotiating multiple, interdependent influences within these respective performance ecologies, and moving over time from a status of technical novice towards one of proficiency and expertise (Dreyfus & Dreyfus 1980), a growing sense of embodied instrumentality is encountered (Nijs et al. 2009). The additional technology becomes less an extension of the instrument, rather the performer becomes present in a new holistic entity (Riva 2009; Rebelo 2006), with an attendant, ongoing re-evaluation of personal sound concept. Instrumental musicianship is reframed as inhabiting an assemblage of tools that filter and resonate physical energy, identity, and culture, and is directed towards an optimal performing presence.
