The development of the digesting system, production of digesting enzymes and dietary electrolytic balance are important factors for the animal growth. The study of effects of 20 and 23% of crude protein (CP) combined with 0, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 mEq/kg of electrolytic balance (EB) in the pancreatic α-amylase activities of broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days was carried out. The experiment was conducted with one day old chicks, males, Ross, for 21 days, in a completely randomized factorial design. The experimental diets contained 20% and 23% of CB supplemented with salts to obtain EB of 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 mEq/kg. Diets and water were supplied ad libitum. At days 1, 7, 14 and 21, three birds from each treatment were sacrificed by cervical dislocation, pancreas removed, homogenized, frozen in liquid nitrogen and freeze-dried. An aliquot of each sample was solubilized with deionized water and centrifuged at 7500 x g for 3 minutes at 4 o C. Activities of the pancreatic α-amylase in the supernatants were determined with specific kit In Vitro Diagnóstica. The protein concentration was determined by the method of WARBURG and CHRISTIAN (1941). Chicks fed 20% of CP had specific activities (U/mg protein) higher than those receiving 23% at 7 and 21 days. Chicks fed 100 to 200 mEq/kg of EB and 23% CP showed higher activities tha those fed 20% CP at 14 days. A tendency to increase of the specific activity was observed from 7 to 14 days and to reduce from 14 to 21 days. Thus, for the highest specific activity of pancreas α-amylase, we suggested diets with 20% CP and 200 mEq/kg of EB from 1 to 7 days, diets with 20% of CP and 135 until 250 mEq/kg of EB form 8 to 21 days of age. / Dissertação importada do Alexandria
