The time frame used in this study focused on publications for the years 1972 to 1974, years of political transition that served as thematic space for selection and deepening everyday involving these productions. The purpose is to examine the artistic representations of the cartoonist, trying to get through humor, a dimension of social imagination within the context of current political détente in Amazonas State Military. The work also brings a desk research, lifted from A CRÍTICA newspaper editorial materials collected during field research. Searching with this research build both a biographical survey of the life and work of this artist, given its almost 30 years of service to the journal, reveal how, from their works, a model of reading about the social imaginary in Manaus during period of military rule. About this themed space, the production was situated within a social episode, the "Election 1974 in Amazonas," thus seeking to reverse an exercise, based not only on the joke, but the opening reception of the spaces proposed for certain humorous content , which makes the charge a sort of "window" to understand, through the production of targeted newspaper, some of the political ambience that was in transition. From the cartoons and the ironic episode that results from this event, it was possible to feel part of the social imagination of readers of this context, and identify, from the irony, the effects of cultural revolutions that hit the city and undermining the behavioral models of this generation. / A presente dissertação tem como objeto de estudo as charges do desenhista João Miranda de Queiroz, ex-funcionário do Jornal A CRÍTICA. O recorte temporal utilizado nesta pesquisa concentrou-se nas publicações referentes aos anos de 1972 a 1974, anos de transição política que serviram como espaço temático para a seleção e aprofundamento do cotidiano que envolve estas produções. Objetiva-se em analisar as representações artísticas do chargista, buscando obter, através do humor, uma dimensão do imaginário social circulante dentro do contexto de distensão política do Estado Militar no Amazonas. O trabalho também traz uma investigação documental, levantada a partir de materiais e editoriais do jornal A CRÍTICA, coletadas durante a pesquisa de campo. Busca-se com esta pesquisa construir tanto um levantamento biográfico da vida e obra deste artista, tendo em vista seus quase 30 anos de serviço ao periódico, quanto revelar, a partir das suas obras, um modelo de leitura sobre o imaginário social manauara durante o período de regime militar. Sobre este espaço temático, situei sua produção dentro de um episódio social, a “Eleição de 1974 no Amazonas”, buscando assim fazer um exercício inverso, partindo não apenas da piada, mas sim da abertura que os espaços de recepção propunham para determinado conteúdo humorístico, o que faz da charge uma espécie de “janela” para compreender, através da produção direcionada do jornal, um pouco daquela ambiência política que se encontrava em processo de transição. A partir das charges e do episódio irônico que resulta deste evento, foi possível tatear parte do imaginário social dos leitores deste contexto, além de identificar, a partir da ironia, os efeitos das revoluções culturais que atingiram a cidade e que minavam os modelos de comportamento desta geração.
