Wildlife-vehicle collisions : An evaluation of the mitigation effect by ecoducts and fauna bridges in Sweden

Rietz, Anna January 2023 (has links)
The occurrence of wildlife vehicle collisions (WVCs) is an increasing problem in Sweden with a calculated increase of 45 percent from 2015 to 2022. The highest measured number of WVCs occurred in 2021 with over 67,000 reported incidents, where only the payment for the search of wounded animals were approximately 60 million Swedish crowns. The Swedish transport agency works actively with the problem by constructing several types of wildlife passages to mitigate the increasing problem, inter alia, ecoducts and fauna bridges.   The aim of this study was to evaluate the mitigation effect of wildlife passages, in this case ecoducts and fauna bridges. In addition, were also the spatial extent of the mitigation effect together with the relationship between mitigation effect and the annual daily traffic (ADT) evaluated.   The evaluation of mitigation effect was conducted by the usage of several types of geographical information systems (GIS) tools in the software ArcGIS Pro. A selection of seven passages was made, based on several requirements and each passage was assigned a study area with an area of 100 square kilometers. The mitigation effect was initially determined by conducting an Emerging hot spot analysis, categorizing the result into showing trend of decrease or showing no trend of decrease. The spatial extent of the mitigating effect was evaluated through the Emerging hot spot results while the relation between ADT and WVCs was evaluated in an overlay analysis.   Two of the passages were concluded as to having a mitigating effect, three passages were concluded as to showing no mitigating effect and two passages were excluded from further evaluation due to high uncertainty in the results. At the passages with stated mitigating effect were the spatial extent of effect shown in the whole study area. The result showed no evident correlation between ADT and mitigating effects which led to further reflections on the degree of influence that ADT has on the occurrence of WVCs.

Tümmler, Bartholomeus 03 May 2023 (has links)
In this paper, a study data analysis of the TU Berlin for the analysis of human movement data of the study Mobil im Havelland based on mobility indicators is validated on the basis of two test data sets using the desktop GIS ArcGIS Pro and QGIS. Furthermore, this paper uses the evaluation results of the desktop GIS ArcGIS Pro and QGIS to discuss the extent to which analyses of movement data using mobility indicators can also be carried out off the shelf with an OSS such as QGIS under a price-sensitive claim. The validation showed that the TU Berlin's study data analysis was able to generate equivalent and in some cases even higher quality results compared to desktop GIS. The performance of the TU Berlin's Stop & Go Classifier, which is based on innovative procedures, was particularly convincing. Thus, the study data analysis of the TU Berlin can be certified without restrictions as suitable for the evaluation of the movement data of the study Mobile in Havelland. With regard to the comparison of desktop GIS, it can be stated that such analyses are possible with QGIS. However, an implementation with off-the-shelf methods is not yet guaranteed with QGIS, especially with regard to the central aspect of the detection of dwelling places. However, external Python libraries such as MovingPandas or scikit-mobility can be used here.

Tramvajová síť nového územního plánu města Brna / Tram Network for New Brno City Masterplan

Grishchuk, Dmitrii Unknown Date (has links)
This master thesis deals with the planning of routes and their operating parameters for the tram network in the new Brno city masterplan. The work evaluates operational and capital expenses that are bound up with running and further expanding of the tram system. The numbers of inhabitants and jobs included in 300-meter zones around tram stops were assessed. The calculated values are compared with the current situation. Based on the results, a suitable composition of the vehicle fleet and the order in which new tracks should be constructed is recommended. Further measures are proposed to improve coverage of city territories by the tram system, especially construction of tram ways to other densely populated areas of Brno and the organization of selected transfer points
