Towards Warsaw of the future : exhibiting, archiving and moving through architectural imaginaries

Lesniak, Piotr Jerzy January 2017 (has links)
Thesis argument: There is a Culture of Violent Reductivism in Representing Warsaw, which means that: Warsaw is reduced to a symbol of heroism in the hands of God/History or the Expert; imagining is reduced to historic imaginary and by the same token futuristic imaginary; both based on a positivist-romanticist system of thought; the reductivism deploys philosemiotic violence (acts of offering with expectations attached); the reductivism/violence is a symptom of a ‘neurosis’ of the social national/imaginary; the reductivism stops Warsaw/Poland from imagining present and future more openly. An alternative is to represent Warsaw as a series of post-historical objects that: are discrete texts, singular images, drawings, physical objects; are paradigmatic and analogical; they move from specificity to specificity; offer different forms, where ‘form’ is non-objective and means relationship; are a series of critiques, reflections, descriptions that work as architectural hypotheses; represent three exemplar imaginaries of Warsaw (the Birth, the Rebirth, the Second Rebirth); together form a ‘distracted’ architectural archive of Warsaw’s imaginaries. In this way, the thesis posits an example of a methodology of representing Warsaw that opens the possibility for Warsaw/Poland to imagine itself differently. Key themes: Culture of violent reductivism in representing Warsaw, reduction of Warsaw to a symbol of heroism, domination of the historic futuristic imaginary, philosemi(o)tic violence, neurosis of the social imaginary (guilt), positivist romanticism, post-historical object, paradigmatic knowledge, non-objective form, seriality of representation, architectural hypothesis, three imaginaries of Warsaw, ‘distracted’ archive of imaginaries.

Habitação coletiva contemporânea = inovações metodológicas e tecnologia da informação no processo de projeto / Contemporary collective housing : the role of methodological innovations and information technology in the project process

Mendes, Leticia Teixeira, 1981- 16 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Leandro Silva Medrano / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Civil, Arquitetura e Urbanismo / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-16T21:40:35Z (GMT). In the 1990s, with the weakening of the dichotomy between Modernity and Post-modernity, the participation of other fields of knowledge in the theoretical and practical production of architecture and urbanism increasingly sets in. These changes were reflected in the architecture not only in its formal result, but in the whole process of design and architectural production, influencing, therefore, the emergence of new theoretical and methodological possibilities in fields related to the production of space inhabited by men. Once the discussion concerning landscape in terms of new approaches in the discipline becomes more necessary and relevant for the definition of new developments in the field of architecture, this study aims to analyze the Silodam and Nexus Housing projects, respectively from offices/architects MVRDV and Rem Koolhaas, in order to verify the use of technologies of information and communication (ICTs) in the design process, as well as methodological innovation in developing new configurations of residential space. Therefore, the objective of this was to gather information in the literature that could assist in the evaluation of different approaches for collective housing projects and we used the method defined as Metric Innovation, developed by Henri Achten, to analyze the case studies proposed. Thus, based on data collection and projects analysis, this work aims to contribute to the assessment of new tools and methods to be used in the development of collective housing projects / Mestrado / Arquitetura e Construção / Mestre em Engenharia Civil

Oscilando entre o ser e o nada: a aventura urbana de Sartre na América / Oscillating between being and nothingness: the urban adventure of Sartre in America

Lima, Adson Cristiano Bozzi Ramatis 25 May 2010 (has links)
In 1945 the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre made a trip to the United States of America, by the invitation of the U.S. government. The architect as collector: Karl Kamrath’s collection of Frank Lloyd Wright

Pierce, Kathryn Alisa 2009 August 1900 (has links)
Houston modern architect, Karl Kamrath (1911-1988), collected books, periodicals, and archival material that document the career and legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright. Kamrath identified himself as a collector of Wright and a devotee to the principles set forth by the master architect. In this thesis, I present Kamrath’s collection by organizing the materials by subject, considering how Kamrath marked books and journals, and drawing connections between his collecting interests and his architectural work. Kamrath collected and consumed information on Wright and organic architecture and then presented his own articulations of the principles in built form. His interest in organic architecture was evident in his projects that blended into the landscape and satisfied the individual needs of each client. The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the story on Karl Kamrath, adding the details of the collection he donated to The University of Texas at Austin. / text

[en] TWO PAVILIONS AT INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITIONS OF THE 20TH CENTURY: IDEAS OF A BRAZILIAN ARCHITECTURE / [pt] DOIS PAVILHÕES EM EXPOSIÇÕES INTERNACIONAIS DO SÉCULO XX: IDEIAS DE UMA ARQUITETURA BRASILEIRA

MARCIA FURRIEL RAMOS GALVEZ 12 July 2013 (has links)
[en] Within a given historical event, the International Expositions (also called World Fairs), two Brazilian s pavilions projects by architect Lucio Costa were selected for study, to the Philadelphia World Fair in 1926 and the New York World Fair in 1939, both in the United States. The analysis of the cultural context, the conformation of the architectural competition and finally the composition of the projects aims to connect the issue of national representation - program-specific of exposition pavilions - with the Brazilian architecture s discourse development in two different periods of its 20th century s history: the neo-colonial and modern period. As projects of the same architect, who has established himself as one of the greatest representatives of the profession in Brazil, the study is done in order to understand the formation of both his design practice, contemplating the appropriation of traditional forms of a colonial past, as well as his theoretical discourse, understanding art and technique in contemporary thought.
