[en] GOD, FULL HAPINESS OF HUMAN BEING: GOD’S CONCEPT IN THE THEOLOGY OF ANDRES TORRES QUEIRUGA / [pt] DEUS, FELICIDADE PLENA DO SER HUMANO: O CONCEITO DE DEUS NA TEOLOGIA DE ANDRÉS TORRES QUEIRUGA

RONALDO SILVEIRA MOTTA 28 May 2012 (has links)
[en] The concept of God is something that forms in the human mind. Along life, different cultures, peoples, languages and nations have always found the image of God as their customs and experiences. In a particular way, our Churches have communicated the Gospel message they received through the Holy Scripture and handed down by tradition along the centuries. When the real spirit of the law is lost, the conclusion is that letter kills. That s what happened to the concept of God when it became a reason for exclusion, persecution and fear. The Spanish theologian Andres Torres Queiruga searches through reflection on this subject, an involving rethink of theology today, because with the advent of modernity, the human thinking paradigm has changed on account of the cultural revolution. The perspective of a world where natural events were attributed to God or the devil, according to what was good or bad, no longer fits today, as science considers the world governed by autonomous natural laws. In such case, this mythic vision of God becomes for modernity, superfluous, as their former causal explanation, has brought great harm to faith. Queiruga searches in Jesus of Nazareth’s life, the core of Abba’s experience. The truly Christian response to this situation, presents the tender face of God revealed by the Messiah. This God s paternal experience brings joy and the conscience of full existential realization for the one who find pleasure in feeling divine filiation.

[en] GUIGNARD AND THE OTHER MODERN / [pt] GUIGNARD E O OUTRO MODERNO

FLAVIO REZENDE DE CARVALHO 26 June 2008 (has links)
[en] This dissertation attempts to situate the work of Alberto da Veiga Guignard vis-à-vis the modern, that is, to shed upon it a contemporary light that repositions it problematically within the frame of Brazilian art as a whole.Guignard, over the years, ended up being rendered as the stable image of a reference value. He is, for many, the greatest Brazilian painter of our first Modernism. Nonetheless, such judgment, whether right or wrong, has in no way contributed to broaden the discussion of his work - on the contrary - it is kept in captivity as a kind of functional myth, that is, as a fact that has conveniently been already explained. Some decades ago, the Brazilian art historiography tried to rescue him from this unfavorable crystallization. Reference should be made to Ronaldo Brito, Carlos Zílio and, more recently, Rodrigo Naves, as some of those who have originated and developed such critical revision. My intention, therefore, is to resume and advance these studies in the sense of investigating, having as much as possible the works themselves as a starting point, the possibility of thinking a distinct, obscured, dislocated, deviated, at last, other modernity. Naturally, this presupposes the possibility of coexistence, in time, of multiple modernities, many times contradictory concerning the modern, which demand examination. In Guignard, it is the case that demands such hypothesis. Either we imagine a modernity marked by the experiences of the artist, or we will be doomed to reproduce, in a higher or lower degree, the totalizing frame that systematically imprisons him and undervalues him. Therefore, again, Guignard`s work is found at the center of a broader discussion - a place that, actually, it has never ceased to occupy.

[en] THE INNOCENT EYE IS BLIND: CONSTRUCTING THE MODERN VISUAL CULTURE / [pt] O OLHAR INOCENTE É CEGO: A CONSTRUÇÃO DA CULTURA VISUAL MODERNA

DORIS CLARA KOSMINSKY 06 January 2009 (has links)
[en] The time in which we live is instilled with an abundance of technological excess and sensorial stimuli in a symbionic construction In this period, which at times is interpreted as the peak of the modern project and of modernist culture, and at other times as a cultural stage after the post-modern culture, new technologies and their mediations are identified one by one as the decisive agents in transforming our vision of the world. Despite the technologies acting as a catalyst of certain consequences, they fail to characterize a condition accessible enough so as these transformations can be executed in any society or period. Our study suggests that the modern vision was constructed on a tripod composed of the technologies which shape space-time relations, the conventions which contributed to their understanding and naturalization, and a pedagogy which inculcates the opening to the new, so as to ensure that the resulting vision is perpetuated. This study looks at the past, aiming to find continuous and contradictory aspects in relation to contemporary visual culture in a context where previous ways of seeing things are not simply overcome, but absorbed into the subsequent visions, in other words, in a layered construction. In such a context, we examined two moments or visions. Firstly, the cyclopic or classical vision, which was formed throughout the Renaissance, grounded on the convention of perspective and dispersed by printed engravings. Secondly, the panoramic vision, constructed as from the second half of the 19th century and based on urban transformations, the profusion of objects and images and the space-time compression generated by new technologies in transport and communication. This way of viewing the world, while creating new perspectives, also required a process of consolidation and standardization, which was carried out through the development of a pedagogy directed at industrial institutions and to the concept of progress. In this action, the Universal Expositions, which began in 1851, played an important role as a basically visual phenomenon. These exhibitions were aimed at a wide audience and also synthesized subsequently acquired experience with other technologies directed at the masses so as to gain the status of a show. From the point of view of a visual culture founded on a modern past, our research identifies the latest technologies which make distances even shorter, further accelerate our communications and allow new forms of human contact, as part of an extensive series of other transformations, which are generating a new vision. The overriding issue is in relation to the time at which we will have the precise measure of this transformation so as to use it to formulate new structural possibilities.

[en] CRITIQUE OF NORMATIVE REASON: MICHEL FOUCAULT AND THE AUTHORITY OF REASON / [pt] CRÍTICA DA RAZÃO NORMATIVA: MICHEL FOUCAULT E A AUTORIDADE DA RAZÃO

VICTOR ALEXANDRE GARCIA 15 April 2020 (has links)
[en] This work investigates Foucault s relationship with the polemical thematic of post-modernity through the Foucault-Habermas debate. Postmodernity is a controversial concept, that encamps numerous readings and characterizations. We chose to dialogue with Habermas, not only because of the German philosopher s importance in the crystallization of this concept throughout the 80 s, but also because he criticize Foucault s philosophy directly. Habermas understands modernity as an unfinished project, yet to be rescued and completed by the development of a communicative rationality. His theory of modernity, then, aims to combat emerging postmodernity, marked by irrationalism and relativism. Habermas sees in Nietzsche the inflection point for postmodernity. The nietzschean genealogy, which will also be that of Foucault s, appears to Habermas as a kind of devastating critique of reason, that takes place on the outer limits of modernity: they both unmasks reason as a mere will to power and domination. We then try to show how the French philosopher dealt with the theme of modernity. For Foucault, if modernity is also characterized by the Enlightenment, it is much more for the critical attitude that it evokes, than for a certain model of rationality considered as ideal. Foucault argues that the Enlightenment opened the philosophical reflection for the investigation of who we are in our present, of what is our present, in a way that consolidated the effort to situate ourselves critically against the rationalities that guide us and that govern us. Foucault then emphasizes the kantian notion of adulthood: being modern is very simply the refusal to be tutored. In this sense, the whole work of Foucault complicates the classical Illuminist narrative, which is usually presented in terms of a progress of the Lights, a struggle of reason against the shadows, knowledge against ignorance and prejudices, etc., by showing that there are authoritarian elements inside the Enlightenment movement. The Enlightenment not only represents the movement of questioning the authority of the Church - it represents the questioning of all forms of authority. If modern reason becomes a new source of authority criticism must radicalize itself into a metacritical posture in the order to apprehend the new rationalities that govern us today.

[fr] JOÃO DO RIO: UN HÉROS DANS LE LABYRINTHE DE LA VIE MODERNE / [pt] JOÃO DO RIO: UM HERÓI NO LABIRINTO DA VIDA MODERNA

DAYANE DA SILVA NASCIMENTO 12 June 2014 (has links)

[en] THE EVIL AS A CHALLENGE TO THE FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST IN SALVATION: AN APPROACH BASED ON THE THEOLOGY OF ANDRES TORRES QUEIRUGA / [pt] O MAL COMO DESAFIO À FÉ NA SALVAÇÃO EM JESUS CRISTO: UMA ABORDAGEM A PARTIR DA TEOLOGIA DE ANDRÉS TORRES QUEIRUGA

MARCOS MORAIS BEJARANO 30 May 2011 (has links)
[en] The Evil is a reality which has always caused shock and astonishment to people. According to it, several different sense systems have been created by society in order to answer questions about physical and moral damages that are brought to human consciousness. The Christian faith holds that the ultimate salvation from Evil is in Jesus Christ, the definitve revelation of God’s presence with the human being who seeks a way out of the contradictions of existence. However, despite the hope awaken by the easter of Jesus Christ, and even with the expectations of the earliest Christian communities about the imminent end the suffering of this world, the Evil remains as a cold and cruel reality. How to deal with teh faith in Jesus Christ as the universal savior and the persistence of the Evil in history? According to the Spanish theologian Andrés Torres Queiruga, any attempt to the Christian answer to this question must be similar to the loving face of God revealed by Jesus Christ. But, we cannot forget about the other two facts: first, the rising of modernity, with its consciousness of human autonomy and the cosmos, and that it is suspicious of any defense of empirical interventions of God immanent in reality; the second one; the rigor of the concept, this way we have a reflection that is restless in the search of a logical discourse, even when it is related to a so difficult subject, avoiding sticking to the result of the inconherence and failed consideration of the mistery quickly.

[en] The works of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen (1919-2004) and Adília Lopes (born in 1960), two Portuguese poets, are constantly investigating about the nature of poetry and searching a social function for it. They both seem to try to find an answer for a question Modernity has left: is it possible to combine the freedom of poetry with a social role for it? On trying to find a solution for this problem, their works reveal surprising similarities. This thesis studies the connections between this two writers, as well as the significant differences between their works, which are usually associated to the history of poetry in the 20th century. Sophia and Adília have a relationship with the tradition of modernity that is simultaneously close and distant.

SUZANA VALLADARES FONSECA 07 December 2007 (has links)
[en] The debate about values of modernity and post-modernity has proved to be a topic deserving further discussion. In the specific field of Graphic Design, this debate has led to a critical reassessment of those fundamental concepts generally known as the modern paradigm. This results in a kind of massive disqualification of the parameters then enunciated. Observing typography, this thesis proposes an approach to modern Graphic Design, focusing the discourse of two people, both representative of movements whose importance to its consolidation is outstanding: Jan Tschichold (and the New Typography) and Emil Ruder (and Swiss Typography). Theoretical and practical formulations by these authors and issues tackled by them, as well as the discussion of ideas concerning the two movements, are still referential nowadays. They enable us to retrieve - at least in part - the complexity and richness which marked the Design thought in that period.

[en] THE LITERARY BOHEMIA IN RIO DE JANEIRO`S FIN-DE-SIÈCLE: ONOSARQUISTAS E PATAFÍSICOS / [pt] A BOEMIA LITERÁRIA NO RIO DE JANEIRO FIN-DE-SIÈCLE: ONOSARQUISTAS E PATAFÍSICOS

DIOGO DE CASTRO OLIVEIRA 10 June 2005 (has links)
[en] The main purpose of this work is to develop a critic reflection of the cultural process in Rio de Janeiro based on its literary bohemia, through the period that goes from the republican manifest of 1870 to the first decades of the new century - period known as Belle Époque. The modernization changes, as the secularization of the State, the battles for the abolition of slavery and for the proclamation of the republic, as well as the struggles to overcome the obstacles for social and political ascension and, later, the re- urbanization of the city and the suppression of popular culture form the background of this research. What is pretended here is to fit the bohemia in the middle of the bourgeois dilemma: the interests of capital, in the one hand; the ideals of emancipation of mankind, on the other hand. For that, the bohemia makes the mediation between overwhelmed historical temporalities: if the modernity allows the bohemian phenomenon to arise, this same modernity refuses the instability of their social roles. Compressed by the imaginary of an archaic world and the instrumental possibilities of a modern world, bohemians present themselves as sacrificial figures that ritualize the modern desperation.
