High energy physics R&D productivity of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre as reflected in the e-Print Archives holdings of SLAC

Prakasan, E.R., Tara Ashok, *, Lalit Mohan, *, Singh, Sanjay Kumar, Rane, Madhuri, Nabar, Gita, Upadhye, R.P., Mandal, Minati, Tiwari, Shalini, Gudekar, H.D., Vijai Kumar, * 07 1900 (has links)
Contribution of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to the e-Print Archive services of Stanford Linear Accelerator Center in the field of High Energy Physics (HEP) on Internet is the main focus of the study. E-Print Archives where BARC is at least one of the affiliation of authors are downloaded from the site â http://www.slac.stanford.edu/spires/hep/â (297 records as on November 2002) and analysed based on some bibliometric parameters. The study lead to some of the results like most productive high energy physicists, author collaboration pattern, institutional collaboration pattern both international and national, preference of publication types by HEP scientists, core journals in which scientists preferred to publish their articles, inclusion of the records in two well known databases INIS and INSPEC where high energy physics related publications are likely to occur, citations received in Science Citation Index (SCI) of ISI and the HEP database itself and key areas of research through keyword analysis. In addition to that highlight the e-print archive services are additional bibliographic sources for HEP scientists.

Legal and Policy Framework for Promoting Equitable Access to Documentary Heritage: Report Submitted to UNESCO by National Mission for Manuscripts, India

India, National Mission for Manuscripts 05 1900 (has links)
The National Mission for Manuscripts of India, in association with UNESCO, completed a research study to assist in the development of legal and policy framework and protocols for promoting equitable access to documentary heritage, relevant to India and other South Asian countries. Entitled Legal and Policy Framework for Promoting Equitable Access to Documentary Heritage, the study seeks to accurately identify and critically examine the legal and policy framework for promoting equitable access to documentary heritage. The National Mission for Manuscripts is the most important institution in India dealing with bibliographic databases and the conservation and preservation of valuable manuscripts. The study covers the legal and policy framework which envelops the lifecycle of the Mission's work: access to manuscripts, their digitisation and creation of databases. By critically examining the legal rules in the practical context of the Missionâ s work, the research team has put together the first review of an initiative aimed at the protection of Indian traditional knowledge. The study illustrates working patterns of the Mission within the legal and policy framework of the country. It is a helpful sourcebook for understanding South Asian legal and policy framework for accessing documentary heritage collections. While the study does not set out to be the final word on these policy initiatives, it definitely makes significant progress in the policy debate and legal literature in this field. The conclusions presented in the form of draft legal agreements and policy recommendations will, with no doubt, be valuable tools for South Asian countries that share similar legal and policy framework within the sub-region.

Is web archives a misnomer - how web archives can become digital archives?

Wu, Paul Horng Jyh, Heok, Adrian Kay Heng January 2006 (has links)
Digital archives are not meant to be mere collections of digital artifacts organized for reference. It ought to be a record, providing evidence for dynamic digital cultural activities, because these activities form an organic and primary source of cultural information and artifacts. This paper investigates two national web archiving projects, argues for the need for greater attention to be paid to archival principles and shows how contextual elements can be retained in a collection. We will also demonstrate how some of these principles have been applied in the Asian Tsunami Web Archives via a web archival method called Web Sphere Analysis. In conclusion, we present a framework where existing and future web archives projects can incorporate Web Sphere analysis to transform their collection into a genuine Digital Archives and become a richer resource for future research.
