<p>The aim of this study was to increase the knowledge of possibilities and obstacles for disabled people to meet a partner. The ambition was to know more about wishes for and needs of professional or other support. The methods have been literature studies, survey research, and interviews. A simple questionnaire was sent to administrative staff and social welfare officers who gave the information that they experienced those persons with intellectual disability or Aspergers syndrome had asked for support to meet a partner. To get a perspective from inside six semi structured interviews were made with disabled people having experience of relationships, love affairs. Two men and two women with intellectual disability and two women with Aspergers syndrome take part in the interview study. Results of this study correspond with previous research. All the participants experienced possibilities and obstacles to meet a partner. The opportunities were rather universal. The difficulties they met were on one hand the feeling of belonging to a marginalized group in society and on the other hand problems with social interaction and interplay. The conclusion was that there is a desire as well as requirement for professional support. The support should be given by someone the person has confidence in. It could be a guardian, a social welfare officer or any other staff. People with disability have wishes about love and to meet a partner and it is very important to identify needs and wishes of their own.</p>

Autism and inclusion: teachers' perspectives on the mainstreaming of autistic studentsRoberts, Julie-Anne Samantha 20 June 2008 (has links)
As a result of White Paper 6 (2001), South Africa has embarked on a radical restructuring of its
entire education system, with the aim of removing barriers to learning and including children with
disabilities into mainstream schooling (Mittler, 2003). According to this new framework, autistic
students should be included into mainstream schools but there is scant research on the feasibility and
practical implementation of this. This study took the form of a qualitative analysis of the perceptions
of both mainstream and specialised teachers in terms of the mainstreaming of autistic students in
South African schools. Results of the study suggest that neither of the sample groups perceive the
South African context ready for mainstreaming of autistic students. They felt that students with
Aspergers Syndrome, higher-functioning autism, could be included more successfully. However, on
the premise that all autistic students were going to be included, a number of changes would need to
be made. These included the provison of paraprofessionals, smaller classes and a stronger emphasis
on safety. Teachers would also need to receive extensive training on dealing with behavioural
problems that autistic students may exhibit. It was further noted that mainstream teachers are in need
of practical exposure to autism and training in this area.

<p>The aim of this study is to examine the opinion of teachers as to the situation of young people suffering from Aspergers syndrome in the Sixth Form(gymnasium. In order to find this out I have chosen to interview four teachers with work experience of Aspergers in three different gymnasium in middle Sweden. They were confronted with the following questions: What resources are available for these pupils in the gymnasium? How do they experience that the school situation functions and how would they as teachers like the school situation to function for these young people at school?</p><p>The result shows that special teachers have an extremely important function to fulfil. Those interviewed felt that there are sufficient resources available, for example guidance and further education for techers as well as both support and means for helping the young people.</p><p>However, every teacher does not understand this handicap. Everyone is agreed that it is important there are tailor made solutions for each individual in close cooperation between pupils, teachers and special pedagoues.</p>

Abstract In this survey the authors studied how having a child with Aspergers syndrome affects the parents. The purpose of this survey was getting a glimpse of the parent’s experiences of support from governmental instances as well as from their own network. This survey has been executed from a qualitative point of view. The authors have completed interviews with six parents of children with Aspergers syndrome. The semi structure of the questions gave the authors the possibility to perform more freely and to ask follow up questions to get information. Crises theory and systems theory were the theoretical ground selected for this survey. These theories were chosen out of thoughts that they would help the author’s to find an understanding of the parent’s experiences and reflections. Previous research showed in resemblance to the author’s studies that parents of children with Aspergers syndrome need the support of their relatives and friends. Results of the studies show a lack in the emotional support that the parents want from their family and friends. Previous research as well as the result from this study showed that parents want coordinated assistants from authorities The result also shows that practical support from authorities like school demands a diagnosis on the child. Even though the child has been diagnosed some parents experience a lack of support, especially from school. An example on future research could be a survey how to improve and develop cooperation between different authorities.

The purpose of this study was to elucidate how individuals diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome experience stigma as a result of their diagnosis. The paper was based on a qualitative method, consisting of six interviews with booth male and female participants. We took part of previous studies and research as well as existing theories on the subject, in addition to the analysis of our empirical material. Significant in this study was that all participants were relieved when getting the diagnosis, as they finally got an explanation for what was wrong. The results indicated that the majority of the informants felt worried of the possibility to experience stigma and discrimination, which resulted in that the majority of the participants tended to use an avoidance coping strategy. The results also showed that in contact with authorities the participants in general experienced a lack of understanding and knowledge about Aspergers syndrome. For further research it would be interesting to study authorities’ perspective of their own knowledge and competence to meet individuals diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome.

Studien är gjord i form av en kvalitativ studie där syftet är att genom berättelser från personer med Aspergers syndrom förstå vilken betydelse just detta funktionshinder kan ha för skolgången. Studien bygger på livsberättelser från en kille och en tjej som beskriver sin syn på sitt funktionshinder samt vilka svårigheter och möjligheter de har stött på under skolåren. I studien redovisas även relevant litteratur om Aspergers syndrom och olika metoder samt strategier läraren kan använda sig av i undervisningen. Dessa metoder och strategier kan bilda en grund för strukturering och planering av skoldagen och skolmiljön så att eleverna får det stöd deras funktionshinder kräver och sina behov mötta. Resultatet visar att tydlighet och struktur är viktiga delar för personer med Aspergers syndrom. Vidare visar resultatet att skolan har svårt att anpassa undervisningen, materialet och miljön efter respondenternas funktionshinder. Slutsatsen av studien är att det behövs mer kunskap om vilka svårigheter elever med Aspergers syndrom upplever i skolan och vardagen. Vi valde att skriva om detta ämne för att vi personligen vill få större kunskap om hur vi som pedagoger kan stötta elever i behov av särskilt stöd. / This is a qualitative study where the objective is to give the reader an understanding of how people with Aspergers syndrome experience their disability and their time in school by listening to two peoples stories. The study is built on the stories of a boy and a girl who describes their view of their disability and the difficulties and possibilities they have encountered during their years in school. The study also brings up relevant literature about Aspergers syndrome and the different methods and strategies the teacher can use in the education. These methods and strategies can form a base for structuring and planning the school day and the school environment so the pupils can get the support their disability demands, and get their needs met. The result shows that directness and structure is important parts for people with Aspergers syndrome. Further more the result shows that the school has difficulties to adapt the education, material and environment for the respondents disabilities. The conclusion of the study is that more knowledge, about the difficulties pupils with Aspergers syndrome faces in every day life and in school, is necessary. We chose to write about this subject because we personally want a bigger knowledge of how we as educationalists can support pupils in need of special support.
