Dentro de sua vasta obra, mais de 150 músicas gravadas e registradas, alguns temas se apresentam com mais insistência. São eles: a mestiçagem, o povo e a relação entre o carnaval e o samba. A pesquisa situa o compositor no contexto de sua época e analisa os três aspectos destacados, com o intuito de enfatizar a perspectiva social que emana de sua obra. / The research proposes to give a more critical and analytical look over the musical work of the baiano composer José de Assis Valente (1908-1958). Inside his vast work, with more than 150 recorded and registered songs, some themes are presented with more insistence. They are: Miscegenation, the people and the relation between Carnival and Samba. The research places the composer in the context of his time and analyses the three highlighted aspects, with the intent of emphasizing the social perspective that emanates from his work.
