Insecure attachment and psychopathology in children and adolescents : a meta-analysis

Goldstein, Caroline January 2012 (has links)
Since Bowlby (1958, cited in Bowlby, 1969) originally introduced the theory of attachment it has been written about extensively and a vast amount of research has contributed to the development of the theory. In more recent years research has focused on the possible link between attachment and psychopathology. The major aim of the present meta-analysis was to contribute to this research effort by establishing the magnitude of the effect size for the relationship between attachment security and internalizing psychopathology; and attachment security and externalizing psychopathology, in children and adolescents. Four separate meta-analyses were conducted investigating internalizing and externalizing problems in cross-sectional and prospective studies. A comprehensive literature search was conducted to identify relevant studies for inclusion in the analysis. Identified studies were assessed for eligibility according to stringent inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 23 studies contributing 45 effect size correlations, involving 3793 different participants were considered eligible for inclusion. Relevant information was extracted and coded from the studies before the analyses were conducted. For cross-sectional studies the mean effect size correlation for attachment security and internalizing psychopathology was r = -0.24 (k = 14; p <0.01; 95% CI = -0.31, -0.17). For attachment security and externalizing psychopathology the mean effect size was r = -0.28 (k = 16; p <0.01; 95% CI = -0.34, -0.21). In terms of prospective studies the mean effect size correlation for attachment security and internalizing psychopathology was r = -0.17 (k = 8; p = 0.01; 95% CI = -0.28, -0.04); and for externalizing psychopathology it was r = -0.09 (k = 7; p = 0.02; 95% CI = -0.16, -0.01). When attachment security and psychopathology were measured concurrently, there was evidence of a negative association for both internalizing and externalizing psychopathology. Although the magnitude of effect was smaller for prospective studies evidence was also found for the predictive validity of a lower level of attachment security in the development of both internalizing and externalizing psychopathology. Theoretical explanations for these findings are presented and the research and clinical implications are discussed in terms of the limitations of the study.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Priscilla Giatti de Lucca.pdf: 1374374 bytes, checksum: 065dc110460f13741f07fb707bed0f91 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-10-01 / This study aimed to investigate ways of minimising the effects generated by the teachers’ turnover in the Children Education, regarding the establishment of emotional bonds – safe – with the babies and children, without creating a sudden break which would compromise their development. The period of the research was from 2013 to 2017 years in a Children Education Centre (CEC) which serves children with 0 to 3 years and 11 months age, situated in the peripheral region of the South area of the city of São Paulo. In order to develop the research, a document analysis of the legislation regulating the teachers’ removal in the Municipal System of São Paulo and an inventory of the records from the teachers’ attendance book of this Scholar Unity in order to identify the teacher’s stay or not stay. Another methodological procedure was the critical incidents trigger which was organized for an initial discussion with the 11 teachers who were also part of the focal group, with the aim to discuss the effects generated by these professionals’ turnover in this CEC. The critical incidents sensitized the teachers regarding the presented problem and in relation to the search for actions toward the confrontation of the teacher mobility intending to minimize the baby and children’s sorrow and to provide a greater affective and emotional security for their whole development. From the performed analysis it was possible to realise that the Scholar Unity has a high index of turnover in the course of the academic year. The political organization to the hiring, the closure or the displacement of the teachers does not match the needs of the babies and children since it happens in an uncontrolled way and in several moments during the academic year. Furthermore, it was identified the need of clearing the look of the managers, teachers, and families in order to promote a new reflection about the theme. Therefore, this research proposes some actions regarding the care in the welcoming of the entrant teacher of which highlight the need to allow the new teacher adaptation in order to develop the safe attachment and affective bonds with the babies and children, providing a health environment in every respect for the Early Childhood / O presente estudo teve por objetivo investigar formas de minimizar os efeitos gerados pela rotatividade de professores na Educação Infantil, em relação ao estabelecimento de vínculos afetivos – seguros – junto aos bebês e às crianças, sem que haja ruptura brusca que comprometa o seu desenvolvimento.

CHOCHOLOUSOVA, S. The right of child, who is placed under institucional care, to be in contact with one of its imprisoned parents. Prague: Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague, 2013. 140 s. Diploma thesis. This diploma thesis is focused on the children of imprisoned parents in the Czech Republic. It deals with the right of the child to have contact with a parent in prison, the actual realization of this contact and its support in Czech and international legal frameworks. In the center of attention is due to the imprisonment of parents and separated families. There are problems with severing emotional attachments between the separated child. Growing up in childcare institutions, without their biological parent, has implications for their upbringing. Thanks to theoretic knowledge and conclusions the theoretical part is drawn up and implemented by quantitative questionnaire surveys of all childcare institutions in the Czech Republic. Their purpose is to find out whether the child's right to contact with imprisoned parents is carried out, what type of contact is most often implemented, and what obstacles prevent most of the contact. On the basis of quantitative and partly qualitative data, this is assessing the current problem of "Children of imprisoned parents" and in conclusion, there are...
