Pastorale versorging van getraumatiseerde slagoffers van geweldmisdaad / Johannes Gideon Botha

Botha, Johannes Gideon January 2004 (has links)
South Africa, after ten years of democracy should have been a secure and peaceful place. It has however developed into a cesspool of violence. Violent crime is currently a common factor in everyday life. It is especially the severe nature of the assault and mutilation that makes violent crimes so traumatizing. The aim of this study is to identify the need for counselling of these traumatized victims of violent crimes and to design a future strategy for the possible application by pastoral counsellors and ministers to support and minister these violent crime victims. The method of approach according to which this study was done, is the practical theological model of Getz where the different perspectives was studied through lenses. From the above mentioned survey it became evident that violent crimes are still increasing and the subsequent trauma received very little attention up to now. Empirical research clearly suggested that although these victims needed pastoral counselling, they did not receive any form 293 of counselling. With the help of the pastoral counsellor these violent crime victims can overcome trauma. Pastoral counselling to the traumatized victim of violent crime is carried out by the counsellor, a called servant of God, using Scripturally founded pastoral skills in counselling, in this way creating a pastoral relationship. The aim is to lead the counselee towards growth in belief in God in order to handle this through faith. The conclusion reached after the research had been taken is that traumatized victims of violent crimes did not receive counselling from their ministers. The trauma that is caused by violent crimes has a fierce impact on victims and this research, with the aid of the pastoral model, might help victims to carry on their daily lives in honour of God. / Thesis (Ph.D. (Pastoral))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2005.

Power Analysis of Sub-threshold Logics for Security Applications

Haghighizadeh, Farhad January 2012 (has links)
Requirements of ultra-low power for many portable devices have drawn increased attention to digital sub-threshold logic design. Major reductions in power consumption and frequency of operation degradation due to the exponential decrease of the drain current in the sub-threshold region has made this logic an excellent choice, particularly for ultra-low power applications where performance is not the primary concern. Examples include RFID, wireless sensor networks and biomedical implantable devices. Along with energy consumption, security is another compelling requirement for these applications. Power analysis attacks, such as Correlation Power Analysis (CPA), are a powerful type of side channel attacks that are capable of performing a non-invasive attack with minimum equipment. As such, they present a serious threat to devices with secret information inside. This research analyzes sub-threshold logics from a previously unexplored perspective, side channel information leakage. Various transistor level and RTL circuits are implemented in the sub-threshold region as well as in the strong inversion region (normally the standard region of operation) using a 65 nm process. Measures, such as Difference of Mean Energies (DME), Normalized Energy Deviation (NED) and Normalized Standard Deviation (NSD) are employed to evaluate the implemented architectures. A CPA attack is also performed on more complex designs and the obtained correlation coefficients are used to compare sub-threshold and strong inversion logics. This research demonstrates that sub-threshold does not only increase the security against side channel attacks, but can also decrease the amount of leaked information. This research also shows that a circuit operating at sub-threshold consumes considerably less energy than the same circuit operating in strong inversion and the level of its instantaneous power consumption is significantly lower. Therefore, the noise power required to cover the secret information decreases and the attack may be dramatically more difficult due to major increase in the number of required power traces and run time. Thus, this research is important for identifying sub-threshold as a future viable technology for secure embedded applications.

Les impacts du 11 septembre sur l'ordre juridique international : l'exemple du droit spatial

Pereira-Bahia, Liliane January 2002 (has links)
International law is not insulated from all external influences: eminently political and conflicting, international relations assume a vertical vision of the relationship between law and power. Therefore, the terrorist attacks of September 11, whether fueled by the desire for a new world order or simply the pursuit of power, necessarily affected the international legal order. To identify these effects, one must consider the very foundations of international law, sovereignty and the equality of the States, as well as the emerging international trends of globalization and unilateralism and the theoretical models, which must be compared to the immediately measures taken in response to the attacks. Having defined the situation, as it existed on the 10th of September, one will observe the acceleration and expansion of the already existing phenomena. The radicalization of international law and outer space law confirms the statement of Prosper Veil, "always the same one, and always started again".

Trance forms: a theory of performed states of consciousness

Morelos, Ronaldo Jose Unknown Date (has links) (PDF)
This study investigates forms of theatre/performance practice and training that can be seen to employ ‘trance’ states or engage the concept of ‘states of consciousness’ as performative practice. Trance is considered to be the result of sustained involvement with detailed information that is structurally organised, invoking imaginative and affective engagements that are maintained as interactions between the performer, other performers, the environment and audience of the performance. This thesis investigates trance performance through the conceptual lens of dramatic arts practice. In their respective cultural contexts, trance and theatre attain qualities considered as sacredness. Trance practice and performance, across a range of cultural contexts, are analysed as social processes - as elements of power relations that influence the performer, audience and environment of the performance. As performance traditions and events, this study will examine strands of praxis that can be drawn from Constantin Stanislavski to Lee Strasberg to Mike Leigh; from Antonin Artaud to Samuel Beckett and Jerzy Grotowski; from the Balinese trance performance form of Sanghyang Dedari in the 1930s to the 1990s; from the Channeling practitioners in the U.S. in the 1930s to Seth and Lazaris in the 1970s to the 1990s; and from traditions of military training, performance violence, and rhetoric associated with the attacks of the 11th of September 2001 in the U.S. and its aftermath.
