Contributions to the development of the piano sonata : the sonatas of W.F. Bach, C.P.E. Bach and G. Benda

Heuschneider, Karin January 1968 (has links)
This investigation deals with three leading representatives of the North German Pre-Clasaical School. The sonatas of W.F. Bach and G. Benda have as yet received little attention. E .Bach, on the other hand, was always regarded as the most influential composer in the early history of the German piano sonata. Nevertheless, the existing literature on C.P.E. Bach is concerned with certain aspects or his works only or is devoted to introductory discussions. The aims of this research is to trace the development of the piano sonata and in particular the evolution of the 'sonata form' within the German Pre-Classical School. The works of W.F. Bach present the earliest stage in this development, which reaches its culmination with C.P.E. Bach. The final consolidation of the sonata form is then achieved in the piano sonatas of G. Benda.

Die "Bachische Schule": Überlegungen zu Carl Philipp Emanuel Bachs Hamburger Lehrtätigkeit

Wiermann, Barbara 02 April 2009 (has links)
... Six Odes by C.F. Gellert set by C.P.E. Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven: A Comparative Analysis, a Lecture Recital Together with Three Recitals of Selected Works by Monteverdi, Caldara, Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Ives, Honegger, and Others

Seelig, Timothy 08 1900 (has links)
The lecture recital was given on July 13, 1987. The discussion of the poetry by C. F. Gellert and the musical settings by C. P. E. Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven including analyses of all the pieces was followed by their performance. In addition to the lecture recital, three other public recitals were given: three of solo literature for voice and piano and one of vocal chamber literature. These included the works of Monteverdi, Caldara, Mozart, Brahms, Strauss, Mendelssohn, Ives, Honegger, Debussy, Faure", and others. All of these recitals were recorded on magnetic tape and filed along with the written version of the lecture material as a part of the dissertation.

Význam českých skladatelů 2. poloviny 18. století / The Importance of Czech Composers of the Second Half of the 18th Century

Žáková, Lucie January 2014 (has links)
The topic of my Master's graduation thesis is the music of the 18th century and the importance of Czech composers in the context of the whole Europe. At the beginning of the work we are led into the historic consequences where there is a brief introduction of the political and social situation and where the status of a musician in the world of those times and his role are discussed. Then Czech musicality and its importance for European Classicism are referred to.In the following chapters the musical environment in the Czech lands are dealt with, together with the importance of Czech schoolmasters' families and castle orchestras in our countries. The consecutive chapter deals with the Czech emigration, music centres and institutions in Europe and other crucial events of the 18th century. The 8th chapter focuses on the types of compositions in the period of Classicism and their use in practice. The final chapter gives a detailed overview of the compositions for four hands for keyboard instruments in the 18th century, specifically the composers, music examples for compositions for four hands and at the very end the author's own experience of four-hands keyboard playing is shared.

Two Keyboard Sonatas of Johann Christian Bach and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach: A Historical Perspective

Sherwood, Anne Kathryn 08 1900 (has links)
After examining biographical and stylistic influences on the work of J. C. Bach and C. P. E. Bach, this study analyzes and compares the two sonatas under discussion. Each sonata is placed in historical perspective by relating its outstanding formal and stylistic features with conservative Baroque or more progressive Classical tendencies. In addition to the recorded performance of the Sonata in E-Major, Op. 5, by Johann Christian Bach, and the Sonata in G-Major from Fur Kenner und Liebhaber, Vol. 1, by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, this dissertation includes three tape recordings of selected piano works of D. Scarlatti, F. Haydn, W. A. Mozart, L. V. Beethoven, F. Schubert, F. Mendelssohn, F. Liszt, S. Rachmaninoff, and C. Debussy.
