This diploma thesis contains the description of the polka dance, its origin and short history. The next part belongs to the opera of Bedřich Smetana „The Bartered Bride“ from its creation through to the next presentations in the National theatre in Prague until the actual performance. In the last part there are descriptions of three chosen choreographies of polka from this opera and their analysis according to the model of Janet Adshead – Lansdale. Supplements contain biographies of Bedřich Smetana and choreographers of chosen inscenations – Otto Šanda, Pavel Šmok and Ladislava Košíková.

In this work I wanted to focus on the personality of the Czech composer Bedrich Smetana, and analyze the composition " From my Homeland". I find this remarkable composition to be extremely important for the Czech violin repertoire. In my opinion, the significance mof Smetana´s music is still underrated.

Background: First institution specialized in treatment of alcohol was opened by Bedrich Konarik-Becvan in 1911 in Velke Kuncice. This hospital was closed in 1915 and therefore there was the necessity of creation of the new medical institution. The czechoslovak abstinent association along with Bedrich Konarik found suitable premises and then in 1923 the second anti-alcoholic institution in Tuchlov was opend. Aims: The aim of this thesis is to map the existence (commencement and the expiry) of Abstinential pension Chateau Tuchlov. Use historical documents to describe the composition of the patients, their succesful/unsuccesful treatment attempts, and which therapeutical procedures were used. Methods: The content quality analysis of historical documents, which have not been yet completed has been used for the data collection. The key information are archive sheets from the National Museu archive, so like periodical magazines "Vyssi narod" and "Zdravy lid". Results: Since 1908, when Bedrich Konarik - Becvan began publishing about the alcohol addiction, he pointe dout the necessity of creating the new facilities focused on the treatment of this addictive substance. Presented thesis, which is based on the archival material, describes life and work of the prime politician at the turn of 19th and 20th century - JUDr. Bedřich Pacák. The aim of this thesis is introduction of his personality on the political, economic and cultural background. In seven chapters is described his childhood, studies at the high school in Jindřichův Hradec and at the Faculty of Law. Also his profession of advocate, that proceeded to public activity very fast. Pacák dedicated his own life to work for the Czech nation and its freedom. So did when he was on the post of minister or as the land's and empire's deputy or as the chairman of the Czech community of Sokol in Kutná Hora. Pacák was honoured and appreciated personality by his friends, colleagues and also by his political opponents, because of his political activity. The master thesis deals with the piano sketch Macbeth and the Witches written by Bedřich Smetana. First of all, the reader is familiarized with the biography of B. Smetana, where the deciding moment for writing this music piece is captured. The inspiration by William Shakespeare is put to a broader context with Smetana's work. The original drama is compared with Smetana's music. The sketch has been revised four times since its creation, in 1912 by Jindřich Káan z Albestů, in 1924 by Roman Veselý, in 1961 by Václav Štěpán and in 1981 by Jan Novotný. The last two revisions were compared in detail and many differences were found in the marking of the tempo, the notation, pedalization, dynamics and fingering, last but not least mistakes were found, so their removal was suggested. In the ending of the thesis, there are recommendations concerning the practising of the piece from my own professional experience.

In this work I wanted to focus on the personality of the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana and analyze his chamber music compositions. I find these remarkable works to be extremely important for the world’s chamber music repertoire.

The goal of this study is an interpretative and sound analysis of the recordings of Smetana's quartet in E minor, "From My Life". For this purpose recordings of The Bohemian Quartet, The Smetana Quartet, The Lindsay String Quartet, The Skampa Quartet and The Pavel Haas Quartet were selected. By a method of analysis, we determined character of the components involved in the impression of the composition and then we compared the individual outputs. The results provide a comprehensive view on these issues.

Deníky Bedřicha Smetany představují rozsahem i výpovědní hodnotou unikátní pramenný soubor. Skladatel si je psal po většinu svého života a jsou tak nejen zdrojem cenných biografických údajů, ale i informací z rodinného prostředí a ze společenského a hudebního života. Ve smetanovské literatuře byly deníky dosud využívány především jako zdroj faktografických informací, publikovány z nich byly pouze vybrané partie, v celé šíři jejich problematiky, ani v oblasti ediční jim však zatím adekvátní pozornost věnována nebyla. Předkládaná práce podává podrobnou charakteristiku a analýzu všech deníkových záznamů Bedřicha Smetany v kontextu příslušných životních etap: 1. v době studií (1843-1847), 2. za pobytu ve Švédsku a na koncertních cestách (1857-1862), 3. během působení v českém hudebním životě (1862-1883). V bezprostředním propojení s jeho životními a uměleckými osudy sleduje jejich obsahové spektrum, rozsah a hierarchii jednotlivých tematických okruhů a jejich případné proměny v jednotlivých obdobích či během nich, i okolnosti, kterými byly podmíněny, jazyk, způsob záznamů, míru jejich objektivity. Součástí je též podrobný popis všech pramenů spadajících do kategorie deníkových záznamů. Pozornost je věnována i významu a roli deníků v rámci smetanovské pramenné základny a jejich poměru k dalším typům...

In the days of normalization there was a lot of groups in Czechoslovakia which were spreading the literature, which couldnt be published in the state's publishers. Manuscripts VBF was one of them. This edition was different because it focused on publishing collected works of three authors, who had been already not alive. Manuscript VBF was established on the beginning of seventieths by Bedřich Fučík and Vladimír Binar to publish Jakub Deml's writtings. The Jakub Deml's writtings was orginized to fourteen volumes. Thirteen of them were being published since 1978 to 1983, the fourteenth one wasn't finished. Meanwhile the decision came to publish also Jan Zahradníček's writtings and Jan Čep's writtings. Vladimír Binar prepared Bedřich Fučík's writtings after Bedřich Fučík had died. There was a side product called Bibliotheca of Manuscripts VBF, in which some works of the organizators and their friends were published. The thesis includes an annotative bibliography of the edition and an interview with Vladimir Binar. The purpose of this thesis was to make a bibliography of Manuscripts VBF, compile information about this edition and add a worthful witness of one of its organizators - Vladimír Binar.
