The purpose of this study was to determine if wellness benefits led to any changes in exercise habits among employed postmen. The study was a cross-sectional study carried out by a quantitative method. The collection of data took the form of a questionnaire. The sample consisted of 30 postmen employed at a post office in northern Sweden. The results show that of the postman who use health care benefits, there has been a relatively small change in exercise habits. The results also show that consistently for all respondents was health the main motivation factor for exercise. Time aspect was a factor for not using the wellness benefits. The study showed a state of health is the primary motivational factor to exercise both for those using health care benefits and for those who do not use them.

An analysis of the barriers to UK small business web infrastructure development

This thesis analyses the Web infrastructure development process experienced by UK Small Businesses and considers the nature and impact of the barriers and problems that affect it. In doing so the thesis combines three previously disparate streams of research; research that considers the infrastructure development process, research that considers the benefits that become available via the use of an infrastructure and research that considers the barriers to benefit realisation. Analysis reveals that while the organisational advantages and benefits are well documented, Small Businesses routinely encounter problems to their realisation. Likewise, current developmental methodologies appear ill suited for use by Small Business. This thesis addresses those gaps within current knowledge and understanding. The study utilises a multiple case study research strategy. The research design utilises multiple data collection methods to triangulate the study data thereby corroborating the accuracy, veracity and parsimony of the study findings. The study findings reveal that the development process encompasses three stages, initial development, corrective development and long-term development. The findings also reveal that as the sophistication of an infrastructure is enhanced, increasingly sophisticated benefits become available. At the same time however, barriers to development will be encountered. Each can curtail benefit realisation or can block ongoing development entirely. Within the development process, the business's owner/manager is the driving force behind development and is motivated to undertake development because of the benefits that will bring to their organisation. The thesis makes a demonstrable contribution to knowledge because its combined analysis of three previously disparate streams of research is novel as is its depiction of a three stage Web infrastructure development process. Future work can build upon this study's findings by testing the theories developed within this thesis so that they can be generalised more widely.

Consequences of Multiple Paternity for Female Fitness in an Ontario Population of Northern Map Turtles, 'Graptemys geographica'

Although sexual stereotypes paint males as being promiscuous and females as being choosy in order to increase their reproductive success, multiple mating by females is widespread and females of many taxa often produce progeny sired by multiple males – but why? In species in which there are no direct benefits associated with mating, females may adopt promiscuous mating strategies to increase their fitness through the acquisition of genetic benefits. Here, I examine the genetic mating system of map turtles, Graptemys geographica in Lake Opinicon. Based on the most conservative estimate, at least 71% of clutches in this population are sired by multiple males. There did not appear to be any relationship between female body size and frequency of multiple paternity. There was a marginally significant effect of multiple paternity on hatching success and survival of clutches, but there was no effect on hatchling morphology or locomotor performance.

An examination of systems of access to important high cost medicines: a critical analysis of the nationally subsidised scheme of access to tumour necrosis factor inhibitors in Australia

Background: Access to &quot high-cost medicines&quot under Australia's Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) is characterised by strict eligibility criteria. The PBS access scheme for the anti-rheumatic biologicals (etanercept, infliximab, and adalimumab) was examined for concordance with Australia?s National Medicines Policy. Methods: Semi-structured interviews with a range of stakeholders were conducted. National, aggregated prescription and expenditure data from Medicare Australia and dispensing data from the Drug Utilisation Sub-Committee were analysed. Access to biologicals was also examined from an ethical perspective. Results: Interviewees agreed that controlled access to high-cost medicines was broadly equitable and practical but specific concerns included: timeliness of access; bureaucracy of the process; contentious cases of individual patients being denied access; insufficient patient information; the quantum of resources required to administer the access scheme; inadequate stakeholder consultation. The access requirement of a history of failure of conventional anti-rheumatic drugs was supported. Recommendations included proactive review of the access criteria and outcomes; greater transparency and formal stakeholder involvement to increase public confidence in the definition of &quot target patient population" and a formal appeal mechanism to increase the fairness and accountability of the PBS. Establishment of an appeal mechanism is supported by &quot accountability for reasonableness&quot framework grounded in procedural justice. Data needed to examine the health outcomes associated with the use of biologicals on a national level was not easily available. This shortcoming is discordant with National Medicines Policy. Utilisation of biologicals over the first two years of PBS-subsidy was conservative but with considerable variability across States and Territories (an 8-fold difference between the jurisdictions), usage roughly correlating with access to rheumatologists. Introduction of PBS-subsidised biologicals did not alter the trends in utilisation of non-biological anti-rheumatic drugs. Conclusions: This research suggests that policy-makers focus upon: explicitly considering ethical principles and formally involving stakeholders when developing policies on access to high-cost medicines; improving communication and providing information based on increased transparency; and establishing formal mechanisms for review of and appeals against PBS decisions. The comprehensive evaluation of medicine use and outcomes post-subsidy is critical for the future of the PBS. The National Medicines Policy has proved a useful framework for evaluating this access scheme.
