Darstellung und Reaktivität von Beryllolen sowie Dibenzoberyllolen / Synthesis and Reactivity of berylloles as well as dibenzoberylloles

Tröster, Tobias January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Within this thesis, the reactivity of the CAAC-substituted 2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl beryllole towards frequently used substrates for ring extension reactions and cycloadditions could first be investigated. Furthermore, the preparation of a new monocyclic beryllole was described, which promises increased reactivity due to its modified backbone. In another part of this work, the compound class of dibenzoberylloles was made accessible for the first time. In addition, their reduction behaviour and thermal decomposition were elucidated using a CAAC-substituted dibenzoberyllole as an example. In the last part, the reactivity of this new class of compounds towards Lewis bases and typical substrates for ring extension reactions was investigated. Furthermore, the possibility of using dibenzoberylloles as transfer reagents for the biphenyl backbone was determined.

The environmental behaviour of beryllium-7 and implications for its use as a sediment tracer

Taylor, Alex January 2012 (has links)
The use of cosmogenic beryllium-7 (7Be) as a soil and sediment tracer relies upon a number of important assumptions which to date have not been fully underpinned by supporting data. As a catchment management tool 7Be offers unique potential to assess the effects of recent land use or climate change but further research is required to provide confidence in key data and elucidate sources of uncertainty. Through a range of laboratory and field studies, this thesis aims to explore knowledge gaps relating to i) the temporal and spatial dynamics of 7Be activity in rainfall which has importance in the context of estimating fallout input during erosion studies ii) adsorption behaviour in soils which is of critical importance when considering tracer stability at the field and catchment-scale and iii) the reliability of erosion estimates using 7Be inventories at the slope-scale to address the current lack of model validation. Findings showed temporal and spatial variability of 7Be fallout emphasising the need for regular site-specific sampling to determine fallout flux during erosion studies. Data supported the assumption of rapid tracer adsorption upon fallout although highlighted the potential for 7Be mobility under changing environmental parameters, thus, raising questions with regard to tracer stability at the catchment-scale. Field investigations demonstrated the potential for current models to overestimate erosion rates by failing to accurately represent key model components, namely, 7Be depth distributions, particle size enrichment and fallout input dynamics. Where these factors cannot be determined directly, a range of erosion estimates should be given based upon realistic sensitivity analysis of model components. In this manner, reported uncertainties will reflect field processes rather than propagated analytical uncertainty alone.

The effects of beryllium nitrate on tail regeneration in Rana Pipiens larvae

Ofosu, Gustav A. 01 August 1966 (has links)
This study was undertaken to determine the effects of beryllium nitrate on regeneration in the tail of Rana Pipiens larvae. The tails were amputated approximately 3 rom from the tips. Some were then treated with different concentrations of beryllium nitrate (0.5 N, 0.7 N, and 1.0 N). Normal regeneration of untreated amputated tails was fulfilled in an orderly manner. In the animals treated with beryllium nitrate, general tissue regeneration was inhibited. Considerable degeneration was observed in all tissues of the tail stumps. Holfever, the elastic lamella of the notochordal sheath was stimulated to stretch, oftentimes breaking the continuity of the fibrous lamella. The elastic layer appeared highly ravelled within the degenerated tissues of the tail, and, in some cases, extended for 3 to 4 inches from the tail stump due to a break in the covering epithelium.
