Começamos esta reflexão com a análise da tradução de Gênesis 29.17, que evidencia um verdadeiro jogo de disputas na tradução de Os olhos de Léia. As traduções diferentes e opostas da palavra hebraica rak nos mostrarão a impossibilidade de considerar uma tradução como correta ou sagrada excluindo outras traduções possíveis como erradas ou profanas. Eugene Nida aparece como o teórico de maior importância no campo da Tradução Bíblica e consideraremos alguns de seus trabalhos nos quais se encontram postulados e regras que tentam determinar e controlar a produção de sentidos na tarefa tradutória. Analisaremos também dois outros casos de discussões e críticas sobre traduções da Bíblia, com o objetivo de corroborar nossa hipótese de que o processo de tradução pode levantar a questão das dicotomias e oposição de significados a partir de uma mesma palavra ou termo na língua ou texto "original". A relevância desta dissertação está em considerar a diferença e a oposição na tradução da Bíblia como um assunto complexo e tratar dicotomias como Sagrado e Profano como possíveis e inevitáveis, dentro de um mesmo contexto como pudemos analisar nos Olhos de Léia / Abstract: The main purpose ofthis study is to retlect on the Bible's trans.lation conceming its theories and their consequences in the biblical text. We start this retlection with the analysis of the translation of Genesis 29.17 which shows a play of forces in the translation of Leah's eyes. The different and opposing translations ofthe Hebrew word rak will show us the impossibility of considering one translation as the right or sacred one excluding others possible translations as wrong or profane. Eugene Nida appears as the most important theorist in the field of the Bible's translation and we will consider some of his works in which the postulates and roles that try to determine and control the production of meanings in the translation task are found. We will also analyse two others cases of discussions and comments about the Bible's translations with the goal of supporting our hypothesis that the process of translation can arise the question of the dichotomies and opposition of meanings from the same word or term in the "original" language or text. The relevance of this dissertation is in considering the difference and opposition in the Bible's translation as a complex matter and facing dicothomies like the Sacred and the Profane as possible and inevitable, inside the same context, as we could analyse in Leah's eyes / Mestrado / Tradução / Mestre em Linguística Aplicada
