Schulz, Gracélie Aparecida Serpa January 2008 (has links)
This paper aims to carry out the hydrogenation of acrylonitrile-polybutadiene rubber (NBR) in a liquid phase. This study shows that it is possible the conversion of insaturations C=C of NBR via diimide catalyzed by copper ion, a catalysis selenium or acid using boric acid as a catalyst. The hydrogenation of the polymer was carried out through the catalytic processes in homogeneous and heterogeneous means. The order of reaction was investigated by the method of initial velocity and the equation that best describes the system is presented. Also antioxidants are used to solve the problem of crosslink. The first system involved studied reactions between hydrogen peroxide and hydrazine catalyzed by boric acid and then, using ion Cu+2 reactions were investigated in homogeneous means. However, the reactions using boric acid and copper ion are quite cited in the literature in hydrogenation of the NBR latex. Thus, tests were performed with selenium as a new alternative to hydrogenate of NBR latex in order to find an economically viable system to be developed on an industrial scale. The tests with the new catalytic precursor were realized in homogeneous means with selenium and selenium dioxide in heterogeneous means on spheres of alumina, from which they obtained the best results in that the reason [C=C]/[N2H4] = 1,5 is lower than the values found in literature. The percentage of conversion and crosslink were respectively, 97%-wt and 2%-wt. using selenium as catalyst and 98%-wt and 2%-wt with selenium dioxide. Through the kinetic study suggests that the reaction is of first order in relation to the catalyst and latex concentration. The residual amount found in hydrogenated product with selenium was of 0.1 mg /g of polymer and 0.04 mg / g of polymer in hydrogenated product with selenium dioxide.
