No. of bitstreams: 1 Tese Alguém com quem Contar Diana Castro.pdf: 4418751 bytes, checksum: bf746a57246d046adede802cb67c2497 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-07-25 / The subject of this research is the new museums created to compose the development processes in the cities. Starting from a theoretical essay I created a substantiation to analyse the human emancipation in museums since a Paulo Freire´s perspective. I propose the Boundary Zone thesis as well that such organizations could contribute to the society´s development emancipation. After this I have made a research with questionnaires, interviews and local observation. The data analysis, since a dialectical perspective, search for contradictions and synthesis. The questionnaires were organized with descriptive statistics and analysed together with the data from interviews and observation qualitatively. The other interviews were analysed from a critical discourse analysis perspective. From the result I consider that in such organization prevails a substantive rationality. This organizations finality includes a qualified leisure and the education through the culture and, as well, sociability possibilities even if restricted to people who knows each other, beyond their usual functions as keeper, research, maintenance and collections exhibitions. The exhibitions contents seems to be almost irrelevant to education from the visitors perspective, though it has a crescent visibility since an instrumental rationality. Despite this I prove that the museum can have an active role in the human emancipation, especially in the subcategories related to a society critical perception and utopia. An empirical perception shows us a Boundary Zone as an important component in the new museums, as well as their exhibitions area. Both in the Boundary Zone and the exhibitions exists some influence in the visitors transformation and emancipation. Such substantive organizations play an incisive role in the society and work as agents with whom people can trust in the emancipatory process, depending of their administration.

Delineating the geometry of the Central Metasedimentary Belt Boundary Zone of the Grenville Province: Nd isotope evidence of a failed back-arc rift zone between Minden and Bancroft, Ontario

Moretton, Katherine 08 1900 (has links)

The Grenville Province represents the remains of a collisional orogeny ca. 1.2 - 1.0 Ga and contains the Central Metasedimentary Belt (CMB). Generally thought to represent one or more accreted island arcs, the CMB is located between belts of highgrade gneisses and contains a number of identified structural terranes. Neodymium (Nd) model ages of the high-grade gneisses on either side of the CMB yield similar values (~1.5 Ga) while the average model age within the CMB is usually more juvenile (<1.3 Ga). This distinction, along with observations about the geometrical shape of the juvenile zone, has led to the creation of an alternative model for the development of the CMB in the Grenville Province as developed by Dickin and McNutt, (2007). The new model equates the CMB with an ensimatic rift zone with an en echelon morphology consisting of a series of segments with NNE trends, separated by one or more horsts of older crustal rock. The development of the CMB under these conditions implies that restricted access to seawater may have facilitated limestone deposition prior to major biogenic influences, and thus the morphology of the rift is defined in part by the extent of the Grenville marble outcrops.

The present study tests this model through the use of 80 new Nd isotope analyses to map the NW boundary of the CMB, known as the Central Metasedimentary Belt Boundary Zone (CMBBZ), west of Bancroft, Ontario. Within this part of the CMBBZ, the age boundary between pre-Grenvillian and juvenile gneisses is relatively sharp (1 - 4 km wide) and this age boundary makes a near 90-degree tum from a NNE trend near Minden to an E-W trend near Haliburton. Two blocks of older material are located within the juvenile terranes of the CMB, which are interpreted as being blocks of older crust rifted from the walls of the older Muskoka domain to the north of the study region. These structures are analogous to similar horsts of older crustal material found in the Afar region of East Africa. Therefore, we suggest that the locus of the CMBBZ was constrained by older structures, representing a transition from the side of a rift zone segment south of Minden, to the truncated end of this rift segment between Haliburton and Bancroft. Hence, the detailed structure of the CMBBZ in this region provides further evidence in support of the rift zone model.
/ Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Les rides de Barracuda et de Tiburon, à l'Est de la subduction des Petites Antilles : origine, évolution et conséquences géodynamiques / The Barracuda Ridge and Tiburon Rise, East of the Lesser Antilles : origin, evolution and geodynamic implications

Pichot, Thibaud 18 June 2012 (has links)
The Barracuda Ridge and the Tiburon Rise, two oceanic-basement ridges, lie in the western Atlantic Ocean, where oceanic lithosphere of the North American (NAM) and South American (SAM) plates is subducted beneath the Caribbean plate, creating the Lesser Antilles volcanic arc and the Barbados Ridge accretionary complex. The process and the timing of the uplift leading to the present day morphologies of the Tiburon and Barracuda ridges, that seem to be key markers in the geodynamic history of the region, has remained a matter of debate for decades. From the analysis of new multibeam and seismic reflection profiles acquired in 2007 (Antiplac crusie) DSDP-ODP boreholes available, we provide new information on the timing of the formation of the Barracuda Ridge and Tiburon Rise in their present-day configurations. We propose paleogeographic reconstructions with the main sediments fluxes deposited in the area of the Barracuda and Tiburon ridges from the Late Cretaceous to present. Structural analysis shows reactivation of fracture zones in a transpressive setting leading to the uplifts of the Barracuda and Tiburon Ridges. The location of the Barracuda Ridge and the Tiburon Rise and the timing of the uplift fit well with recent global plate kinematic models describing the movements of NAM relative to SAM along a diffuse plate boundaryThis NAM-SAM plate boundary zone, therefore must most certainly be heterogeneous in nature, exploiting weaknesses in the lithosphere provided by fracture zones where mechanically advantageous, but forming new boundary segments elsewhere, to transfer motion between reactivated segments of the fracture zones.
