"The Urban Leftover": Open corner situations in the downtown area of berlin

Kienapfel, Christian 29 May 2001 (has links)
The situation of the "Urban Leftover" caused by the errection of linear building types -the so called "Zeile"- after World War II is obvious in over 100 locations in the former West Berlin, Germany. The radical modern urban concepts of erasing the historic structure of the city -in which context the Zeile was erected were never completly realized. This mixed structure of the traditional Block and Zeile caused the open corner condition and have become an unused urban leftover today. This thesis project studies the phenomenon of the open corner and tries to offer an answer to this urban question. / Master of Architecture

Impact of Continuous Commissioning® on the Energy Star® Rating of Hospitals and Office Buildings

Kulkarni, Aditya Arun 2011 December 1900 (has links)
Re-commissioning, retro-commissioning, Continuous Commissioning® (CC®) are examples of successful systematic processes implemented in buildings to reduce overall building energy consumption, and improve efficiency of systems and their operations and control. The impact of the Continuous Commissioning® Process on the Energy Star® Rating (ESR) of office buildings and hospitals is examined in this thesis. The improvement in performance of a building, and subsequently its ESR, is found to be influenced by its initial ESR, while its location has no impact on improvement. The improvement in ESR is observed to be almost linearly proportional to the percentage of energy saved. For 10% - 20% reductions in energy use typical of the CC® process, the ESR is increased by 10-19 ESR ranks for office buildings and by 13 - 26 ESR ranks for hospitals. The CC® process is found to potentially enable an office building of average initial ESR of 62 and a hospital of average initial ESR of 55, located anywhere in the US, to be eligible to achieve ESR of 75 and consequently the Energy Star recognition. The improvement of ESR is a function of the initial ESR and the building type; hence it is observed to be different for hospitals and office buildings in the study. For hospital and office building models occupying 100,000 ft² of floor area each, a difference of about 30% in the ESR improvement (greater for hospitals) is observed. The energy intensities may be different for buildings with same ESRs that have different location and/or type. An averaged maximum difference of energy intensity of approximately 10% is observed to exist for identical buildings and of the same type but located at different locations. Hospitals are observed to be more than twice as energy intensive as office buildings for the same location and equal ESRs. ESR plotted against % energy savings at site reveals the stepped nature of ESR system. At specific initial ESR and corresponding % savings a reduction of up to approximately 1% for office buildings and up to 1.5% for hospitals does not change the respective ESRs for the model set of buildings in the study.

Une histoire architecturale de cinémas : genèse et métamorphoses de l'architecture cinématographique à Paris / An architectural history of the cinema : the emergence and the evolution of cinematographic architecture in Paris

Hosseinabadi, Shahram 19 September 2012 (has links)
This thesis explores the emergence and the evolution of the cinema as a building type. It examines two hundred projects submitted to the Parisian administration for obtaining construction permits, from 1907 to 1939. These projects are analyzed according to four major criteria: localization, protagonists, architectural design and their reception. At the beginning of the Second World War, Parisian cinemas were mostly built through three waves of constructions subsequent to historical events: emergence of narrative cinema (1907-1913), end of the First World War (1919-1920), arrival of talkies (1931-1938). These three waves correspond with three successive phases in the rise of the new building type: experimentation, theorization, modernization. This study demonstrates that an original building type has been created since 1907, which is architecturally characterized by the trio of projection- visibility-appeal. From this original type different pieces are derived, that despite their variations are all a blind shed less or more judiciously designed and decorated for a show projected on the screen, a blind box covered by an attractive and expressive façade.

Vývoj realitního trhu v Brně a jeho okolí / Development of the real estate market in Brno and its surroundings

Oblouková, Aneta Unknown Date (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the development of the real estate market in selected urban areas of Brno and its surroundings. First of all, it defines the basic terms and definitions that relate to the real estate market and real estate valuation. The development of factors that affect the real estate market is examined. In the next part there is an analysis of the development of realized purchase prices of flats in Brno and also a thorough analysis of the development of average offer prices of flats in Brno and in the cities of Rousínov, Šlapanice and Slavkov u Brna to compare price differences. To compare prices, three basic criteria are set, on which the development is noticeable. The last part of the work presents a comparison and evaluation of realized purchase prices and offer prices of apartments according to selected criteria in selected city districts of Brno in the years 2018-2020.
