Evaluación de predictores no invasivos de la severidad de la fibrosis hepática en pacientes con infección crónica por hepatitis C, Hospital Alberto Sabogal Sologuren (EsSALUD)Chávez Mendoza, Edgard Mariano January 2004 (has links)
OBJETIVO: Determinar los predictores no invasivos de la severidad de la fibrosis hepática en pacientes con infección crónica por hepatitis C del Servicio de Gastroenterología del Hospital IV Alberto Sabogal (EsSALUD), durante el período diciembre 2000 – diciembre 2002. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Se incluyeron a 30 pacientes con serología positiva para HCV que fueron sometidos a Laparoscopia más biopsia hepática. Estudio observacional, descriptivo, retrospectivo y de corte transversal. Se usó la base de datos del programa SPSS versión 10.0, y se evaluó la asociación mediante el test de Chi cuadrado (_i2), con una significancia estadística del 5%. RESULTADOS: La edad promedio fue de 56.27 ± 12.55 años, Se demostró asociación entre fibrosis severa y radio TGO/TGP mayor de 1 y esplenomegalia(p=0.018 y 0.001, respectivamente) en forma estadísticamente significativa,mientras que la plaquetopenia menor de 150,000 no mostró asociación con fibrosis hepática severa en el grupo de pacientes estudiados (p=0.136). CONCLUSIONES: El radio TGO/TGP mayor de 1 y la esplenomegalia pueden ser considerados como predictores de fibrosis avanzada en pacientes con infección crónica por hepatitis c. En estos pacientes quizás no sea necesaria una biopsia hepática. / OBJETIVE: To Determine the non-invasive predictors from Hepatic Fibrosis severity in patients with Hepatitis C chronic infection at Gastroenterology Service from Alberto Sabogal Hospital (EsSALUD), since december 2000 – december 2002. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 30 patients were included with positive HCV serology who had Laparoscopy and hepatic biopsy. This is an observational, descriptive, retrospective and transversal study. It was used SPSS 10.0 database program, and was evaluated its association with chi-square test (_i2), with 5% statistical significance. RESULTS: The age average was 56.27 ± 12.55 years old. A TGO/TGP ratio of major of 1 and splenomegaly correlated significantly with advance stage of fibrosis (p=0.018 and 0.001 respectively) but there wasn’t correlation between platelet count major of 150,000 and severe fibrosis (p=0.136). CONCLUSIONS: A TGO/TGP ratio of major of 1 and splenomegalia can predict advance stage of fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C infection .In these patients, a liver biopsy may not be necessary.

Gait transitions in C. elegansTopper, Stephen Matthew 17 February 2014 (has links)
The ability to switch between different forms of locomotion is critical to many
aspects of survival, whether it is switching from walking to running to evade predators, or
switching to a slower gait to obtain food. Uncovering the mechanisms behind gait
transitions has implications for many fields, from treating Parkinson Disease to
understanding the impact of drugs of abuse on movement. However, the mechanisms of
gait transitions are not well understood. The experiments outlined in this thesis sought to
understand the neuronal basis for gait switching. This work employed the nematode
Caenorhabditis elegans, a unique model organism chosen for its genetic tractability and
fully characterized nervous system.
C. elegans displays different forms of motion: crawling on land and swimming
in liquid. First, I sought to determine the mechanisms for switching between these forms
of motion in collaboration with Dr. Andres Vidal-Gadea. In the process, we discovered
that crawling and swimming actually represent distinct gaits in contrast to recent reports
that suggested they were merely a single gait. We further elucidated mechanisms for gait
transition in C. elegans. For instance, we found that the transition to crawling required

the D1-like dopamine receptors DOP-1 and DOP-4; and activation of dopamine neurons
via the light-activated cation channel Channelrhodopsin2 was sufficient to induce
crawling behavior in worms immersed in liquid. Conversely, photoactivation of
serotonergic neurons expressing Channelrhodopsin2 induced swim-like behavior on land.
Finally, laser microablation of dopaminergic or serotonergic neurons was sufficient to
impair the transition to crawl or swim, respectively. Together these results show that
transitions to crawling and swimming are controlled by dopamine and serotonin
respectively.
Next I wanted to better understand how gait transitions are impaired by a drug of
abuse, alcohol. I found that, as in other organisms, ethanol disrupts gait transitions,
causing worms in water to inappropriately transition from swim to crawl and to display
other land-specific behaviors. Animals lacking the D1-like dopamine receptor DOP-1
were resistant to the ethanol-induced transition to crawl. Finally, I found that several
interneurons required for the transition to crawl. Specifically, laser microablation of the
DOP-4 receptor-expressing neuron RID or the DOP-1-expressing neurons PQR or RIS
resulted in a significant impairment in the time to crawl onset. Overall, the findings
presented in this thesis represent the first evidence that C. elegans uses an evolutionarily
conserved mechanism to transition between gaits and provides the beginning of a
molecular description of gait transitions. / text

Flight Test Results from C-Band Missile Telemetry ProjectKujiraoka, Scott, Felder, Russ, Johnson, Ben 10 1900 (has links)

In addition, the flight test plans to make this comparison have been discussed. Captive Carry Test Flights (on a F-18 fighter jet) over the NAVAIR Sea and Land Ranges at Point Mugu and China Lake were conducted during the April-July 2014 timeframe. In addition a Live Fire Test Flight over the Land Range of the specially outfitted missile was performed in July 2014 as well. This paper will discuss these series of flights tests and provide a performance assessment of the data quality between the C-Band and S-Band telemetry data links. In addition, lessons learned from the various test flights will be included as well. Due to publication deadlines, the results will be summarized at the actual conference.
