Um dos aspectos concernentes à política de indexação diz respeito à conversão retrospectiva de dados e à compatibilidade de linguagem de indexação entre integrantes de um mesmo sistema cooperativo. Com o advento das tecnologias, foi possível pensar em cooperação entre bibliotecas e, conseqüentemente, em catalogação cooperativa. Esse novo panorama da catalogação trouxe um grande avanço para área: agilização da catalogação, diminuindo o tempo de serviço e otimizando esse processo, uma vez que há o aproveitamento de registros bibliográficos copiados de outras bases de dados. No entanto, houve outra conseqüência: o processo de identificação de assunto por meio da análise foi simplificado, reduzindo-o a uma simples operação de cópia , contemplando a forma do documento, e deixando de lado o conteúdo . Essa simplificação da prática nos remete a uma questão teórica e conceitual muito discutida, porém ainda não sedimentada, na área de Biblioteconomia: a conceituação de indexação e catalogação de assunto. A tese dessa pesquisa é considerar que as incoerências cometidas durante a indexação são resultados de desconhecimento da catalogação de forma e de conteúdo pelo bibliotecário, da ausência de política e manual de indexação para bibliotecas que serviriam como orientações ao trabalho do indexador e instrumento para sua formação em serviço, além de uma sistemática para identificação de conceitos. / Abstract: The indexing policy must be represented by means of a philosophy that reflects the system's aims. One of the aspects concerning the indexing policy is relating to the data retrospective conversion and the compatibility of indexing language among members of a same cooperative system. The appearing of the technologies made it possible to think of cooperation among libraries and, consequentely, of cooperative cataloguing. The new scene of the cataloguing brought a great advance to the field: agility of cataloguing, decreasing the time of service and optimizing this process, since it is possible the utilization of bibliographic records copied from other databases. Nevertheless, there were other consequence: the process of subject's cataloguing (indexing) was simplified reducing it to a simple operation of "copy", taking into account the document's "form", disregarding the "content". This practice simplification refers to a theoretical and high discussed conceptual matter, not yet well sedimented in Librarianship: the concept of indexing and subject cataloguing. The thesis of this research considers that the incoherences made during the indexing are results of non-discerment between descriptive cataloguing and subject cataloguing by the librarian, of the absence of policy and handbook of indexing for libraries which would be useful as guidelines to the indexer's work and instrument to his education in service, besides a systematics to identify concepts. We intend to present a theoretical methodological proposal for the working up of guidelines of indexing policy for the building of cooperative catalogs in university libraries, by means of the indexing process, from the socio-cognitive approach with librarians and users in the context of the university library, and in the conceptual perspective of the theoretical aspects that involve the indexing and the subject cataloguing. / Doutor

Verifica-se, no cenário atual, uma forte tendência para a disponibilização de conteúdos digitais e a falta de uso de padrões adequados para a representação e a descrição desses recursos em ambientes digitais, o que é apontado pela literatura como uma grande preocupação para a comunidade científica e focado neste trabalho enquanto problema da pesquisa. Nesse contexto, a proposição desta pesquisa é verificar na literatura científica a aplicabilidade e a funcionalidade das tecnologias e instrumentos disponíveis como padrões de representação e descrição de conteúdo e forma, no âmbito das bibliotecas digitais, com o objetivo de identificar e de caracterizar o uso e a aplicação do MarcOnt enquanto ferramenta para a construção de formas de representação da informação para bibliotecas digitais na atualidade, destacando-o como instrumento para descrição dos aspectos semânticos dos conteúdos digitais nestas ambiências. Como metodologia, o presente trabalho caracteriza-se por ser uma pesquisa de análise exploratória e descritiva do tema, com o qual é possível obter subsídios para um maior entendimento e compreensão mais detalhados do MarcOnt e as tecnologias que estão abarcadas no âmbito das bibliotecas digitais para a construção Web Semântica. Como resultado, procurou-se demonstrar a aplicação da ferramenta MarcOnt em um ambiente informacional específico, a Biblioteca Digital Semântica JeromeDL, para analisar nos fundamentos da Catalogação as formas de representação dos recursos informacionais. O que nos levou a definir categorias para análise futura do sistema em comparação com o padrão de metadados MARC21. / Abstract: The relevancy of not only the Web but also the digital libraries for the diverse branches of Science has stimulated researchers and scientific communities to search for integration solutions, interchange and semantic understanding about the contents that circulate in them. In the present scenary, a strong tendency is verified for the availability of digital contents and the lack of use of adequate patterns for the representation and description of those resources in digital environments, what is pointed by literature as a great concern for the scientific community and focused on this work as a problem of the research. In this context, the proposal of this research is to verify, in the scientific literature, the applicability and functionality of the technologies and instruments available as patterns of representation and description of content and form, in the ambit of digital libraries, with the objective of identifying and characterizing the use and the application of MarcOnt as a tool for the construction of forms of information representation for digital libraries at the present time, highlighting it as an instrument for describing the semantic aspects of the digital contents in these environments. As a methodology, the present work is characterized by being an exploratory and descriptive analysis of the subject, with which it is possible to obtain subsidies for a better and more detailed understanding and comprehension of MarcOnt and the technologies that are included in the ambit of digital libraries for the Semantic Web construction. As a result, it was attempted to demonstrate the application of the MarcOnt tool in a specific informational environment, the JeromeDL Semantic Digital Library, to analyze the fundamentals of Cataloguing the forms of representation of informational resources. Dentre as principais propostas da área de catalogação estão os FRBR - Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (Requisitos Funcionais para Registros Bibliográficos), que constituem novos conceitos nas regras de catalogação. As regras dos FRBR mostram um caminho na reestruturação dos registros bibliográficos de maneira a refletir a estrutura conceitual de persistência e buscas de informação, levando em conta a diversidade de usuários, materiais, suporte físico e formatos. Neste contexto, o objetivo desta pesquisa é refletir e discutir, a partir de uma arquitetura conceitual, lógica e de persistência de ambientes informacionais, baseada nos FRBR e na Modelagem Entidade- Relacionamento e estendido pelo uso dos conceitos da Orientação a Objetos, o processo de catalogação no contexto do projeto de catálogos utilizando a metodologia computacional de Modelagem Conceitual de Dados, considerando a evolução dessa área no âmbito da Ciência da Informação em relação ao contexto da representação da informação com vistas ao uso e à interoperabilidade de todo e qualquer recurso informacional, que vise a preencher a lacuna entre o projeto conceitual de um domínio de aplicação e a definição dos esquemas de metadados das estruturas de registros bibliográficos. (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The cataloguing process is aimed at dealing with bibliographic registers as information support, serving as a basis for an interoperability among information environments, taking into account different objects and cooperative and heterogeneous basis. Among the main propositions of the cataloguing field are the FRBR - Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records, which constitute of new concepts in cataloguing standards. These standards indicate access to the rearrangement of bibliographic registers in order to reflect on the conceptual framework of persistence and search of information, considering the diversity of users, material, physical support, and formats. In this context, the present research is aimed at reflecting and discussing, from a conceptual architecture, logic and information environment persistence based on FRBR and Entity-Relationship Modeling and extended by the use of concepts of Object Orientation, the process of cataloguing in the context of the catalogs project by using computation methodology of Data Conceptual Modeling, considering the evolution of this area in the scope of Information Science in relation to the context of the representation of information aiming use and interoperability of every and each information resource to fill the lack between the conceptual project of an application domain and the definition of the metadata scheme of bibliographic registers structures.
