Defesa: Curitiba, 29/04/2011 / Inclui referências / Resumo: A claudicação em equinos representa a maior causa de perdas econômica e de performance em animais de alto desempenho esportivo. As estruturas sinoviais, principalmente as articulações, representam a maioria das afecções. As lesões submetidas aos tecidos articulares, dependendo do grau e duração (crônica ou aguda), provocam uma resposta inflamatória a estes tecidos e métodos prévios de diagnóstico são importantes. Esta resposta pode ser avaliada pela análise do líquido sinovial e exame radiográfico, este representa um método de diagnóstico extremamente útil nas lesões articulares, porém determinados achados são identificados somente após o estágio inicial da doença degenerativa articular. Assim, a resposta inflamatória pode também ser mensurada pela temperatura por meio da técnica de termografia, auxiliando na detecção da lesão aguda. A mensuração da temperatura das articulações sinoviais em cavalos hígidos e com lesão aguda e crônica são escassos e até o presente não foram padronizados. O presente estudo objetivou avaliar o uso da câmera termográfica em articulações hígidas e articulações com lesões agudas e crônicas. As articulações foram submetidas aos exames clínico, radiográfico e líquido sinovial. O trabalho está dividido em III capítulos. O capítulo I contém uma revisão bibliográfica sobre líquido sinovial, com análises física, química e citológica, exames complementares como termografia, radiologia e doença degenerativa articular. Nos capítulos II e III estão descritos os experimentos relacionados a padronização do exame termográfico em articulações hígidas e com artropatia aguda e crônica. O capítulo II, aborda o tema "Padronização do exame termográfico das articulações do carpo e metacarpofalangeana de cavalos em treinamento em ambientes não climatizados" e o capítulo III, o tema "Exame termográfico e de líquido sinovial das articulações de cavalos atletas com artropatias agudas e crônicas não infecciosas". / Abstract: Lameness in equines is the main reason of economic and performance losses in high performance sport animals. The synovial structures, mainly the joints, represents the most of diseases. The lesions were joint tissues are submitted, depending of its rate and lenght (chronic or acute), generates an inflammatory response to these tissues and previous methods of diagnosis are important. This response can be evaluated by synovial fluid analysis and radiographic examination, that represents an extremely useful diagnostic tool in joint lesions, but certain findings are identified only after the initial stage of degenerative joint disease. Thus, the inflammatory response can also be measured by temperature using the thermography technique, helping in detection of acute lesions. The temperature measurement of synovial joints in healty horses with acute and chronic lesions are scarce and at this time have not been standardized. This study aimed to evaluate the thermographic camera use in healthy joints, and acute and chronic lesions joints. The joints were submitted to clinical, radiographic and synovial fluid exam. The work is divided into three chapters. Chapter I contains a review about synovial fluid analysis with physics, chemistry and cytology, additional tests such as thermography, radiography and degenerative joint disease. In chapters II and III, the experiments are described, related to standardization of thermographic examination in healthy joints and with acute and chronic arthropathy. Chapter II covers the theme "Standardization of thermographic metacarpophalangeal joints and carpal examination of horses in training in non-acclimatized environment" and Chapter III, the theme "thermographic examination of athletic horses joints with acute and chronic arthropathy non infectious .
