Isso se justifica pelo fato de que as áreas centrais aglutinam diversas instituições, equipamentos urbanos, atividades comerciais e de prestação de serviços, por exemplo. Tal agrupamento atrai fluxos e investimentos tanto públicos quanto privados, o que pode modificar valores simbólicos e econômicos a partir do processo de valorização das centralidades. A aglomeração metropolitana de Brasília tem no Plano Piloto seu núcleo mais tradicional. A excessiva concentração institucional da máquina pública do Governo Federal, do Governo Distrital e de equipamentos para fins educacionais e culturais nesta área provocou a necessidade de criação do Centro Metropolitano do Distrito Federal. Desde sua concepção, propôs-se implantá-lo fora dos limites territoriais da capital federal, mais especificamente em uma localidade situada entre as Regiões Administrativas de Taguatinga, Ceilândia e Samambaia. O propósito da presente pesquisa é analisar as possíveis consequências espaciais da implantação deste grande projeto urbano, verificando as condições históricas que a favoreceram e viabilizaram. É na contribuição do pensamento geográfico que este trabalho se baseia, de modo a compreender e investigar criticamente as ações, o planejamento e as implicações da instalação do Centro Metropolitano. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The creation of the urban centralities in a metropolitan area has, undeniably, the potential to provoke remaking in the spatial dynamics previously established. This is justified by the fact that central areas agglutinate various institutions, urban equipments, commercial activities and provision of services, for example. Such grouping attracts flows and as public as private investments, what can change symbolic and economic values as of the appreciation centralities process. The metropolitan agglomeration of Brasilia has in Plano Piloto its main core. The exceeding institutional concentration of the public machine of the federal government, of the district government and of equipments with educational and cultural purpose in this area provoked the necessity of the creation of the Metropolitan Center of Distrito Federal. Since its conception, it was proposed to implant it out of the federal capital territorial limits, more specifically in a place situated between the Administrative Areas of Taguatinga, Ceilândia and Samambaia. The purpose of the actual research is analyzing the possible spatial consequences of the implantation of this huge urban project, watching the historical conditions that favored it and enabled it. It is in the contribution of the geographical thinking that this essay is based on, in a way that it comprehends and critically investigates the actions, the planning and the implication of the Metropolitan Center installation.
