The 2015 mandate of Europay MasterCard and Visa (EMV) “chip card” technology in the U.S. left the payments market primed for the adoption of alternative technologies. The goal of this study is to determine the factors that contribute to the adoption of new, alternative payment technologies by integrating the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Switching Cost Theory and operationalizing both theories in a consumer context. Through a survey of 210 chip card and mobile payment users, this study finds the TAM dimensions of self-efficacy, perceived usefulness, and social influence are key determinants of a user’s propensity to use a new technology in a mandated consumer context and introduces switching costs as an important antecedent to a consumer’s likelihood to use an alternative payment technology. More generally, this work integrates those theories to gain insight into how industry mandates influence user behavior with regards to consumer acceptance of alternative technologies. / Business Administration/Interdisciplinary

This thesis deals with authentication by mobile phone. The mobile phone with operating system Android was chosen as authentication device. The Eclipse development environment was used for the implementation of applications. The aim of the thesis was to study and practically implement access system for mobile phones, where the Bluetooth LE and NFC interface are used for data transmission between the mobile device and reader. Firstly, the thesis deals with the client application, which is installed on the authenticated device, and then is focused on the characteristics of the application which is running on the reader. Both client and reader applications describe the design of graphical user interface, process of authentication via Bluetooth LE and NFC, analyse packages and classes, and eventually perform security analysis. The thesis also presents schema of authentication protocol HM14.

The goal of the first part of the thesis is to describe the options of wide usage of chip cards in different segments of our life. Consequently it is necessary to mention hardware and software equipment of smart card, its communication with terminal and data security. In this thesis we focus on Java Card environment in which we will try to create two applications, one for electronic purse and the second for user identification. Basically, we need to mention multiapplicational rules of sharing data and objects. At the end of the thesis we are focusing on the possibility of mutual interference between the applications and on protection against attacks. Also future applications of this technology are described.
