This project has as the main purpose thinking about, from Olavo Bilac and Lima Barreto, the conception of city created around Rio de Janeiro which goes around daily in the press, through chronicles during the first two decades of the twentieth century. From this perspective, matching the readings and interpretations to notice the complexity of positions and projects in Federal Capital, from chronicles literature, the changes in action of the chroniclers, the symbolic construction of urban space civilized and modern, and the role held by the press in this debate, in line with the daily life and issues in vogue. Olavo Bilac and Lima Barreto left in the chronicles, their vision about a period of life effervescent in Rio, changed into written text a complex story of tensions and social relations. Lima Barreto and Olavo Bilac s chronicles show fight, conflicting projects, winning projects and unsuccessful projects, dreams realized and dreams postpones, what was planned, but didn t left the paper, what was and what could have been; desires, beliefs and social relations from which the chroniclers built their experiences. Lima Barreto and Olavo Bilac dealt with the city and its changes to each their own way, creating, in the press, from the physical city, desired cities: a capital-city referred to Bilac and Barreto what they want to Brazil. / Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal pensar, a partir dos cronistas Olavo Bilac e Lima Barreto, as concepções de cidade criadas em torno do Rio de Janeiro, que circulavam nas folhas cotidianas da imprensa, através das crônicas, durante as duas primeiras décadas do século XX. Nessa perspectiva, cruzando as leituras e interpretações para perceber a complexidade das posições e os projetos na Capital Federal, intentamos perscrutar pela literatura de crônica, as transformações no campo de atuação dos cronistas, a construção simbólica do espaço urbano como civilizado e moderno, e o papel ativo exercido pela imprensa nesse debate, em sintonia com o cotidiano e as questões em voga. Olavo Bilac e Lima Barreto deixaram, nas crônicas, suas visões sobre um período efervescente da vida carioca, transformaram em texto escrito uma complexa trama de tensões e relações sociais. As crônicas de Lima Barreto e Olavo Bilac revelam forças em luta, projetos conflitantes, projetos vencedores e projetos vencidos, sonhos concretizados e sonhos adiados; aquilo que foi planejado, mas não saiu do papel, o que foi e o que poderia ter sido; desejos, crenças e as relações sociais a partir das quais os cronistas construíram suas experiências vividas. Lima Barreto e Olavo Bilac trataram a cidade e suas transformações cada uma a seu modo, criando, nas folhas da imprensa, a partir da cidade física, cidades desejadas: cidadecapital desejada que remetia também ao que Bilac e Barreto vislumbravam para o Brasil. / Mestre em História

Univerzita Karlova - Filozofická fakulta - Ústav světových dějin ABSTRACT This paper discusses the development and state-of-the-art of writing local chronicles in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the three decades after the fall of the socialist regime (1989 - 2019), placing Czech and Slovak chronicles writing practice on a comparative level. They are based on the Czechoslovak social context. This paper does not ignore also the historical context (19th century) and discusses in more detail writing local chronicles in various periods of the 20th century, as from this period draws current chronicles writing to this day. Besides the theoretical passages, the paper consists of an empirical part (not only as a section describing the field research in the form of a case study), suggests the use of chronicles in practice, and in conclusion seeks to explain and present a comparative synthesis. Following the textual core, a broader base of appendices has been prepared, consisting of both a chronicles bibliography and a direct transcript of contemporary legislative measures concerning chronicles writing in the Czech-Slovak geographical area from the establishment of the first Czechoslovak Republic to the present.
