Cinemaplex Over the Pavese: An Architectural Response to the Question of Looking at Territory

This thesis describes one individual's contribution to a larger effort, an exploration that involved some thirty-two other students from the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio, Switzerland. Our shared task was to study a bucolic agrarian region of Northern Italy and propose a strategy for its development. All projects ultimately included in the Atelier's vision were to have a significant strategic value to the territory, resonating with and magnifying the landscape's existing qualities. They were to intensify its complex identity without further complicating it. Included in this document are the author's initial impressions of the region as recorded over a series of visits to the place as well as a reaction to these impressions, an architectural response in the form of a cinema multiplex over the Pavese and its fields. / Master of Architecture

Presents a literature survey and imagery to establish some meetings between design, cinema and fashion during the twentieth century, especially regarding the collaboration with this research. Understands that these interdisciplinary encounters cause receivership possibility of hybrid creations in the design field. Sociocultural references that constitute the creative process of fashion designer who uses the film as reference are identified. The study also aims at establishing relations between the production design of the film and the process of creating a fashion designer. Some contemporary designers establishing a relationship of harmony with the production design of the film, considering a transposition of the visual design of a particular film for a product design. Aims to recognize the components of cinema that support the development of artifacts, building a link between the product and the elements capable of measuring peculiar and identifiable or not identifiable in the image of the film characteristics. Understands that in this aspect, Hollywood actresses had important contributions, impersonating the styles. Elucidates the interference of the costumes and the star system in the development of a fashion collection that is referenced in the film process. Examines the relationship of fashion designer Walter Rodrigues with cinema. Interprets these relationships through creative moments, punctuated by the designer in an interview for this research and that are proven through images of the collections and sketchbooks. Search exemplify the importance of cinema to product development, explain what are their most common reference point and are characterized as the image of the product. Aims to trace some possible paths within the relationship-cinema design for fashion designers. / A pesquisa busca identificar e analisar algumas influências que o cinema exerce sobre o designer de moda no desenvolvimento de uma coleção. Apresenta um levantamento bibliográfico e imagético a fim de estabelecer alguns encontros entre o design, o cinema e a moda durante o século XX, sobretudo no que tange à colaboração com esta pesquisa. Entende que esses encontros interdisciplinares ensejam a possibilidade de criações híbridas no campo do design. São identificadas as referências socioculturais que constituem o processo criativo do designer de moda que utiliza o cinema como referência. O estudo também visa estabelecer relações entre o design de produção do cinema e o processo de criação do designer de moda. Alguns designers contemporâneos instituem uma relação de sintonia com o design de produção do cinema, considerando uma transposição da concepção visual de determinado filme para um produto de design. Pretende reconhecer os componentes do cinema que servem de apoio para o desenvolvimento de artefatos, construindo um elo entre o produto e os elementos capazes de aferir características peculiares e identificáveis ou não identificáveis à imagem do filme. Entende que nesse aspecto, as atrizes de Hollywood tiveram importantes contribuições, personificando os estilos. Elucida as interferências do figurino e do star system no processo de desenvolvimento de uma coleção de moda que se referencia no cinema. Analisa a relação do designer de moda Walter Rodrigues com o cinema. Interpreta essas relações por intermédio de momentos criativos, pontuados pelo designer em entrevista concedida a esta pesquisa e que, são comprovados através de imagens das coleções e de sketchbooks. Busca exemplificar a importância do cinema para o desenvolvimento de produtos, explicitar quais são as suas referências mais comuns e apontar como estão caracterizadas na imagem dos produtos. Objetiva traçar alguns caminhos possíveis dentro da relação design-cinema para os criadores de moda.
