This project is based on the idea that something called "Regionens hus" should be giving something back to the region and city it's placed in, and definitely not totally close of a strategically important site with a Likewise closed program. The propositon is to inject a cultural and educational program of equal size to the suggested office, and at the same time relieve and give more space to the nearby University and Cultural house. The site is treated according to its current flows of people and its status as a transitioning space, and the distribution and room sequence is based on a building where every program enhances each other, and people can experience what is seen as the most qualitative aspect of the city - other people.

Coherence is not unity alone, but rather expressing the same cause. How can I form a common expression between a diverse selection of fragments? I have treated the characters as fragments - something that is ripped out of its context and doesn’t belong to a system. They are individuals. The act of collecting characters relates to what the swedish author Torgny Lindgren says about his figures of projection. They are people and places he have encountered in real life, that made a strong impression on him. They have followed him through the years, reoccurring in his authorship in slightly different shapes. This is perhaps what I have been looking for, my own figures of projection within the field of architecture. Along the work with the characters, I have been reading A scientific autobiography by Aldo Rossi. Searching for my own figures of projection, Rossis description of his architectural practice has been to useful help. There is a clear connection between his sources of inspiration and his works, not only in physical resemblance, but also in strong ideas connecting different fragments with each other. The architectural method of this semester could be described as that of still life painting, were seemingly disparate fragments have been carefully joined together. The ambition was to make this diverse selection of characters come together in one building, forming a common voice. / Samstämighet handlar om mer än enighet, det är att uttrycka en gemensam sak. Hur kan en rad, till synes olika fragment, forma ett gemensamt uttryck? Jag har behandlat mina karaktärer som fragment - något som är ryckt ur sitt sammanhang och inte tillhör ett system. De är individer. Samlandet av karaktärer anknyter till vad Torgny Lindgren berättar om sina projektionsgestalter. Det är människor och platser som han har mött i verkliga livet,som har gjort så starkt intryck på honom att de har rotat sig i hans författarskap. Där återkommer de, i olika skepnader och olika berättelser.I mitt examensarbete har jag letat efter mina egna projektionsgestalter, i arkitekturen. Samtidigt som arbetet med karaktärerna har framskridit, har jag läst A Scientific Autobiography av Aldo Rossi.I sökandet efter mina egna projektionsgestalter, har Rossis beskrivning av hans praktik varit användbar. Det finns ett tydligt samband mellan de inspirationskällor han nämner, och hans egna verk. Inte bara i fysisk tappning, utan även i tydliga idéer, som kopplar samman fragment med varandra. Den arkitektoniska metoden denna termin kan enklast liknas vid stilleben-målning, där till synes helt olika fragment omsorgsfullt fogas samman till en väl avvägd helhet. Ambitionen var att låta karaktärerna samsas i en byggnad och förena sig i samma språk.

In the field of urban planning, environmental psychology studies human relationship to places and settings, which are then categorized as the public's identities, attachments, and dependencies. Of interest to city planning, these findings can also be utilized in a design methodology. By giving particular attention to civic programs, this thesis presents a model for multi-scalar architecture and construction of place meanings. With urban, political, and historic networks contributing to place categories, ecological evolution provides developmental trajectories that can then be manifested through architectural design in civic and cultural institutions within city centers. From site selection through the design and execution of the project, the precedence is led by the people of past, present, and future, and the spaces they celebrate. The research provides an overview of projects and works of the State of Sao Paulo civic architecture through a broad survey of information from various sources, a systematic way to define cases in which, somehow, the projects seek to enable a civic space that surpass the simple functional and programmatic need of the buildings searching the configuration of a 'Heart city'. Understand that these works of civic character, in São Paulo State, in the 1950s and 1960s, reveal proposals which aimed to enable the idea of 'Heart of the City,' then under discussion in the panorama of architecture and urbanism at that period, consolidating and opening new ways for the production of Brazilian modern architecture, in tune with international discuss of the time and participating in the renewal of urban centers in which they operate. By analysis and comparison of different works, both nationally and internationally, of this time, it was found that the projetual strategies adopted in these designs, innovative aspects, conceptual and technical adopted, with a view to make possible the activation of the 'Heart of the City 'through civic and monumental architecture. / Análise e estudos de casos de projetos arquitetônicos de edifícios públicos de uso político-administrativo realizados nos anos 1950 a 1970, com foco nos conjuntos de edifícios públicos situados no ambiente paulista e destinados aos Três Poderes, inseridos no processo de modernização sócio-econômica e intenso fomento do Estado de São Paulo. A pesquisa buscou estabelecer um panorama de projetos e obras da arquitetura cívica paulista através de um amplo levantamento de informações em várias fontes, sistematizadas de maneira a definir casos em que, de alguma maneira, os projetos buscassem ativar um espaço cívico que extrapolasse a simples necessidade funcional e programática dos edifícios, em busca da configuração de um Coração de cidade . Entende-se que essas obras de caráter cívico, no Estado de São Paulo, nas décadas de 1950 e 1960, revelam propostas que visaram ativar a idéia do Coração da cidade , então em debate no panorama da arquitetura e urbanismo daquele período, consolidando e abrindo novos caminhos para a produção da arquitetura moderna brasileira, afinados com os debates internacionais da época e participando da renovação dos centros urbanos em que se inserem. Pela análise e comparação das diferentes obras, tanto no âmbito nacional quanto no internacional, deste período, constata-se que as estratégias projetuais adotadas nesses projetos, os aspectos inovativos, conceituais e técnicos, buscando a possível ativação do Coração da cidade através de arquiteturas cívicas e monumentais.

The word "context" originates in "contextus", which is Latin for "weaving." An architectural question arises as to how a building can so integrate itself with a community that is it truly woven into the urban fabric. The Shaw Neighborhood branch of the District of Columbia Public Library system closed in 2004. The building at the intersection of 7th Street and Rhode Island Avenue could no longer serve the needs of the community, and shall be replaced by a new facility on the same site. What are the needs of the community that should be addressed, and by what methods? As a civic building, what role will the new library play beyond that of a place to find books? What are the contexts that the new architecture will confront, and how does this building transcend the contexts of the present to endure as something equally valuable in the future? / Master of Architecture

This project introduces the typology of the Pleasure Pier to Stockholm. The Pier starts at Ropsten, an area in the center of the municipality´s extensive plans for The Royal Seaport (or Norra Djurgårdsstaden). The project is a study of the pier typology, how to translate an old idea to give it relevance to Stockholm today, how a structure can be integrated in the intense traffic node that Ropsten will become, and how Stockholm´s abundance of water can become more accessible without diminishing its value.
