Adotando a metodologia fenomenológica-hermenêutica, e tendo como base teórica os estudos de Bakhtin, Kristeva, Jenny e Compagnon, buscaremos verificar como o diálogo intertextual coopera para o desenvolvimento do sentido nas narrativas curtas machadianas. Para tanto, em um primeiro momento, extrairemos do texto as citações e desvendaremos seu contexto original; em uma etapa posterior, voltaremos ao texto machadiano para caracterizar e analisar essa tessitura. Nossa hipótese é a de que Machado de Assis, ao lançar mão das referências à Cultura Clássica, faz um "apequenamento" da tradição clássica, promovendo uma reflexão sobre diversos aspectos sociais / Abstract: The aim of this work is to analyze references to the Classical Culture in the anthology of short stories Papéis avulsos (1882) by Machado de Assis. By adopting the phenomenologicalhermeneutic approach and having as theoretical basis the studies of Bakhtin, Kristeva, Jenny and Compagnon, we seek to examine how the intertextual dialogue contributes to develop the meaning in short narratives written by that author. In order to do that, firstly, we extract quotations from the text and present their original context; the next step is to return to Machado's text, so that it can be analyzed.
