História evolutiva das linhagens do complexo Cnesterodon brevirostratus (Cyprinodontiformes: Poecilidae)

Quinsani, Daniela Ambros January 2017 (has links)
Cnesterodon brevirostratus is a freshwater fish species occurring in highland grasslands in South Brazil. Recent gnomic data have shown that this taxon consists of 4 distinct evolutionary lineages, being that two of them are subdivided accordingly to hydrological basins. Morphologically, these lineages present differences in the distal appendix of the gonopodium, which may be related to sexual selection. In addition, they are strongly associated to a geographic distribution according to the hydrographic basins of the region, some of them are in sympatry. Despite their recent identification, details of the divergence and evolutionary history of these lineages are still unknown. In this work, we used data from 6840 genomic SNPs obtained by RADSeq from 133 individuals in order to use them in different analyzes to search for patterns in evolutionary history and to construct a complete panorama of the diversification of these lineages. The phylogenetic analysis performed by coalescent methods showed the existence of two sister clades being in agreement with the morphology of the distal appendix of the gonopodium and not related to the geographic distribution. The divergence between them seems to have happened very rapidly, with the separation between the two clades mentioned above occurring approximately 1.2 million years ago, followed by the separation of the evolutionary lineages and geographic sub-lineages, between 1 million and 600 thousand years ago, also during the Pleistocene, a period characterized by repeated climatic changes. No introgression event was detected among the lineages, suggesting that the genetic isolation between the lineages occurred in a scenario of allopatry. No locus has been identified as being under diversifying selection, which may reinforce the interpretation of isolation in allopatry. According to the allelic frequency spectrum, the best demographic model for all lineages included population growth. In most of the lineages, the growth occurred during the Holocene, which might be associated to the increase of humidity in the period, with greater availability of wetlands and peat bogs in which the species lives. In general, our results suggest that the topography of the region may have played a key role in generating the great diversity for this taxon.
