Design and implementation of a cognitive mediated intervention programme with first year metallurgy studentsFairon, Kim Tamara 07 August 2008 (has links)
This study was conducted as part of an ongoing research programme to evaluate and implement change in the School of Process and Materials Engineering (PRME) 1002 course curriculum to effect positive results in academic achievement, thus increasing throughput rates of first-year Chemical and Metallurgical engineering students. This study designed and implemented a cognitive mediated intervention programme adapted by Professor Skuy (2003) from Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment (1980) programme. The aim was to see if an extended programme period of time, 12 weeks as opposed to 5 weeks implemented in an earlier study by Viviers (2004), would significantly improve the academic performance of the sample of 20 first-year Metallurgy students as measured by the mid-year and end-of-year examination results. The study also aimed to find out if the cognitive mediation intervention programme would significantly improve the intellectual functioning of the Metallurgy students. The results show that mediating cognitive functions significantly improved the intellectual functioning of the sample of 20 students as measured by the pre- and post-test scores of the Cognitive Assessment System (Das & Naglieri, 1993). However, no significant improvement was found in the academic achievement of the students as measured by the examination results. Accordingly it was concluded that the extended period of time (12 weeks), was sufficient time to improve intellectual functioning of Metallurgy students, but insufficient time for this to transfer into academic achievement for the Metallurgy students. The study highlighted the difficulty of transfer in the engineering context, as well as the continued problem that first-year students have with the complex conceptual nature and demands of the PRME (1002) course.

Structural cognitive modifiability : the influence of curiosity on learning potential in dynamic assessmentMac Donald, Clare Jessie 07 September 2010 (has links)
Educational environments are unable to meet the needs of each individual child. It is believed that individual characteristics of children both limit and promote their learning experiences. Those characteristics that promote learning are essential tools that aid parents and teachers in their efforts to educate children. These characteristics need to be identified and nurtured during the learning process. It has long been suggested that curiosity is one such variable. This study wishes to determine the association between curiosity and learning potential within the dynamic assessment paradigm. A small quasi-experiment was conducted on 39 seven and eight year old children with the use of two assessment measures. The Cognitive Modifiability Battery, built on dynamic assessment theory, measures learning potential. An adapted version of the Multidimensional Curiosity Inventory, still in development, measures various types of curiosity. It was hypothesized that children with high levels of curiosity would measure high in learning potential and those with low levels of curiosity would measure low in learning potential. However, after dividing participants into four groups according to level of curiosity, a quadratic relationship was found between curiosity and learning potential. Rozvoj kognitivních funkcí u dětí se speciálními vzdělávacími potřebami - Feuersteinovo instrumentální obohacení / The development of cognitive function by the children with specific educational needs - the Feuerstein's instrumental enrichmentMiková, Tereza January 2011 (has links)
The instrumental enrichment is a worldwide extended method of cognitive functions development, which has been used in the Czech Republic since 2000. Its author, Reuven Feuerstein, is strongly convinced that human being is able to modify oneself and to develop one's abilities. This method is based on elaborated theoretical concepts - especially on the theory of structural cognitive modifiability and mediated learning. This Diploma Thesis brings essentials information about the concepts related to the cognitive modifiability and considers tools of its application. In the qualitative study, we focus on Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment. In the course of ten moths we observed six clients of the DYS-Centrum Praha we attempted to map changes (or their manifestations) which might have appeared during the intervention. We acquired data by the process of observation (participative observation and video-analysis) and via semistructured interviews. We were interested in changes of cognitive functions manifestations, quality of language, quality of autonomous work and ability to process with the information efficiently. We registered changes in each of these areas. Some of them, were notable only during the FIE lessons, others also displayed at home or at school environment. Key words: cognitive...

Teorie deficitů kognitivních funkcí v kontextu specifických poruch učení / Theory of cognitive deficits in the context of specific learning disabilitiesBortlíková, Kristina January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to describe the cognitive profile, including the developed and deficient cognitive functions, in a group of children and adolescents with specific learning disabilities. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces Reuven Feuerstein's work, especially his concepts of structural cognitive modifiability and mediated learning experience, the theory of cognitive deficits, cognitive map and Feuerstein's instrumental enrichment programme. The characteristics of traditional and dynamic assessment, basic differences between these diagnostic approaches and cognitive symptoms of specific learning disabilities are also described in the thesis. The results of the examination of twenty-eight DYS-centrum's clients with specific learning disabilities are qualitatively analyzed in the empirical part. We focus on their developed and deficient cognitive functions, their fulfilment of complex tasks, a preferred modality in which the tasks are presented, and differences between the results obtained through static and dynamic testing. The results collected from individual subjects are finally compared and visualized using figures and graphs which gives an overview of the studied phenomena throughout the whole research sample. We found all the clients of the research sample having following...

Dynamická diagnostika u dětí s ADHD / Dynamic assessement of childern with ADHDBulínová, Soňa January 2019 (has links)
The thesis deals with topics of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dynamic assessment. The first section briefly characterizes ADHD and it provides an overview of studies on interventions for ADHD pupils in school settings. Specifically, the effect of incentive therapy and daily report cards, adjustments in the school environment and during the lessons, and finally the intervention supporting the development of homework, planning and organizational skills are discussed. The next part of the theory focuses on dynamic assessment and its use in identifying the learning potential of pupils with special educational needs, learning and social disadvantage, or gifted pupils. The empirical part verifies the use of dynamic assessment in pupils with ADHD. The aim was to evaluate the effect of the mediation phase on performance in the posttest of The Seria- Think Instrument among pupils with ADHD. As a result, pupils with ADHD improved their posttest performance. The benefit of the mediation phase in this research was observed in reducing the number of insertions of wooden sticks into the wholes, in changing the problém solving strategy, and in shortening the time of tasks performance. Keywords: ADHD, dynamic assessment, intervention, The Seria-Think Instrument, Tzuriel, mediation phase,...

Vliv metody Reuvena Feuersteina na didaktiku učitele základní školy / The influence of Reuven Feuerstein ́s method on elementary school teacher didacticsKurcová, Petra January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with influence of Feuerstein's method of Instrumental Enrichment on didactics of elementary school teacher. The Instrumental Enrichment method is a very sophisticated strategy for developing individual cognitive structures. A person who helps develop cognitive structures acts as a mediator. These mediators are most often parents or teachers. So, according to Feuerstein, the teacher is not merely a knowledge builder, but he tries to develop his / her thinking and teaching potential. The aim of my work is to deepen the general knowledge of the influence of this method on teachers' didactics from the perspective of those teachers who work with it. To clarify in which areas didactics teachers perceive the impact of this method and how concrete changes are reflected. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the author of the method, Professor Reuven Feuerstein, and the theoretical starting points from which his method is based. In addition, Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment Program is introduced, which is an application of mediated learning to pedagogical practice. It further defines the concept of didactics. The last part deals with available research on the influence of the method on teachers' didactics. In the empirical part, which is based on qualitative research...

Zprostředkované učení - významný faktor pomoci sociálně znevýhodněným žákům (v procesu učení) / Mediated training as a possibility for socially disadvantaged studentsŠkopková, Pavla January 2015 (has links)
This Master thesis aims to solve the question of developmentally-creative possibilities in the schooling process. This question is contextualized education of socially disadvantaged pupils. Because in shaping the learning competencies, this area is not developed enough and specific methods are somewhat rigid, it will be introduced one of the option how to to develop learning skills and abilities of the pupils , and which are in the teaching competencies deemed as essential. In this context will be introduced stimulatory and intervention program of Instrumental Enrichment as a concrete form of execution of Mediated learning and also as an effort of perspective innovation of curriculum. With the intention to point out the limitless possibilities of developing pupil's learning potential, the text focuses on the theoretical and conceptual bases, which constitute the entire program. The program is the instrumental set of tools that lead to the activation of cognitive structures and their subsequent enrichment. Therefore, except the theoretical foundations are also presented cognitive strategies metacognitive training that simplify cognitive modifiability, and that lead to the development of pupils' learning potential.

In the recent past, both society and labour market are demanding from citizens a performance far different from those accept until then.
