Designing and Implementing Generic database Systems Based on the entity-attribute-value Model

Lekberg, Daniel, Danielsson, Patrik January 2013 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is to produce a generic database system for an IT-company calledNinetech. In this context generic means the database system can accept any input, withinreason, without one having to create a specific database schema beforehand. The prototypewill consist of a database, web service and a dynamic-link library. The three aforementionedcomponent’s design and function will be explained in chapter 2, alongside with the difficul-ties surrounding manipulating arbitrary data. The prototype’s performance is evaluated inchapter 3 and conclusions are drawn in chapter 4.

Design Metrics on Prediction of Open Source Software Complexity

Tadesse, Milkias January 2013 (has links)
The growth of open source softwares (OSS) is playing a big role in the industry. The important contributions that have been generated over the past years are found to be useful for software developers. The development method used to produce open source software is different in that it participates programmers who are interested in coding. On the other hand, software complexity is one aspect that should be raised during the development of software. It is considered as one factor linked with different characteristics of quality in software. Since there are multiple developers located in different places who commit their codes to repositories, there is a need to understand the complexity of OSS before using them.A systematic use of object oriented design metrics can be useful in helping to solve this. In this paper, the complexity of the most popular open source softwares is investigated by the use of statistical assessment of the metrics. In order to facilitate this, it includes a case study to investigate complexity of ten popular projects that are available sourceforge. The case study has shown that applying software metrics that would measure the different aspects of software would be useful in analyzing, studying and improving the complexity of open source software.

Ny i Inre Skandinavien : Webbaserad Personutställning - Ett verktyg för visning och underhåll av intervjuer

Mumun, Sinan, Glennberg, David January 2013 (has links)
Some people do not have the opportunity to visit a physical exhibition because of limited time or long travelling distances, it is here the need for a web-based exhibition arises. This dissertation describes the development of an interactive web-site representing a part of a physical exhibition of over 200 interviews on different peoples immigration to inner Scandinavia. The interviews contain text, audio clip, pictures and video clip. The website contains modern programming technologies such as HTML5, ASP.NET MVC3, SQL, JavaScript and jQuery. A cover of the technologies used and how the project has been designed and implemented is explained in the dissertation. In the end of the dissertation we discuss about how the result of the project follows the goals we set up in the start phase. The result of this project is an interactive and easy to use web-site showing a part of the physical exhibition online. An easy administration to insert new information and edit existing without any major computer knowledge.

Business intelligence : Framgångsfaktorer vid användningen av ett BI system

Emelie, Adolfsson January 2012 (has links)
The management of information is a significant competitiveness in companies. Companies stored and save information every day, and it is very common to save de information in different sources. This makes de management of information complex. To mange, monitor and analyze the information, companies can use a system called Business Intelligence. BI system is an analytical system that extracts and converts data into useful information that helps employees to make informed decisions. My purpose was to identify success factors that affect the use of a BI system. The purpose was also to present the success factors you need to consider within the use of a BI system. The study was based on a qualitative method where I Interviewed companies using BI systems and consultant that are experts in the area. I did this because I wanted to see how the use of the BI system differs from what the author writes. I was then able to identify success factors that affect the use of a BI system. The result I came up with is that learning and data quality are critical success factors which are important to consider within the use of a BI system. I have also been able to identifysuccess factors that are known in the use of BI systems.

Continuous Measurements of Core Body Temperature using Body Sensor Networks

Hegen, Peter January 2012 (has links)
Long-term body temperature measurements for research and diagnosis are currently done in hospitals or specialized research labs. This method has several drawbacks: the use of wired ob- trusive sensors (e.g., rectal probes to measure the core body temperature) may be uncomfortable for patients. Furthermore, situations recorded in laboratory settings do not reflect reality as patients are not subject to their normal living environment. Furthermore, it is labor-intensive to regularly check upon patients and care for their well-being. Using small wireless sensor nodes in a body sensor network to measure body functions, one can mostly offset the limitations listed above. For this work, we have developed a wireless sensor node that uses an infrared thermopile as a sensor to unobtrusively measure the core temperature at the tympanic membrane. Due to their construction, these sensors are heavily dependent on the ambient temperature in the surroundings of the sensor packaging. While this does not affect their use in single-shot measurements (e.g., using an ear thermometer), it poses a challenge for continuous measurements, as common living environments do not have constant ambient air temperatures and people frequently commute between different places. These conditions may offset measurements significantly, an important problem for medical applications that require high accuracy. In this work, we employ infrared thermopiles in a body sensor network and characterize their behaviour in various situations, especially in the presence of varying environmental conditions. Based on our observations, we describe methods for post-processing measurements in order to compensate environmental changes and hence get results reflecting reality more closely. Our evaluation shows that these methods can offset the infrared thermopile’s weakness but need further work to achieve the degree of accuracy that is needed for medical applications.

An investigation of emerging knowledge distribution means and their characterization

Eberhagen, Niclas January 1999 (has links)
This work investigates emerging knowledge distribution means through a descriptive study. Despite the amount of attention that processes and structures for knowledge management has received within research during the last decade, little attention has been directed towards the actual means used for the distribution of knowledge by individuals. In this respect it is the aim of the study to contribute with knowledge regarding knowledge distribution means. The study consists of a survey of emerging electronically mediated distribution means followed with a characterization and analysis. For the characterization and analysis a framework for interpretation of the different distribution means was created based on the constructs of organizational learning and the levels of knowledge system interpretation. Within the framework characteristics and concepts were identified and then used for the analysis of the knowledge distribution means. The characterization of the different knowledge distribution means as such may be used as an instrument for evaluation since it generalizable to other means of knowledge distribution. The results of the study show that knowledge distribution is not an isolated event. It takes place in larger context, such as organizational learning, since it touches upon other activities or phenomena such as knowledge acquisition, knowledge interpretation, and organizational memory. The concept of genre of knowledge distribution was found to be a viable concept to base exploration and development of support for knowledge distribution. The investigated distribution means only partly support a model for knowledge representation that captures both the problem-solution as well as an understanding of their relationship. In this respect existing distribution means must be enhanced or new ones developed if we wish to endorse such a representational model. / <p>Licentiate thesis in partial fulfillment of the Licentiate of Philosophy degree in Computer and Systems Sciences, Stockholm University</p>

Coaching by gaming : an instructor perspective of game-based vocational training

Alklind Taylor, Anna-Sofia January 2011 (has links)
Military organisations have a long history of using games for training. Over the years, they have developed training practices involving role-play, simulations, puckstering and gaming. Most researchers in serious games, i.e. games used for non-entertainment purposes, focus their studies on the learners. This licentiate thesis, instead, takes a closer look on the roles of instructors in game-based training situations, specifically at the Swedish Land Warfare Centre. Through a mix of theoretical and empirical studies, training practices were scrutinised, resulting in a framework for gamebased vocational training. A key element of this framework is the coaching by gaming perspective in which instructors give un-intrusive, formative feedback through role-play and gameplay. Another important aspect of the framework involves dynamic debriefing. These insights points to specific needs for system support for instructors involved in game-based training. They also emphasise the fact that serious gaming is a highly contextualised activity made up of more than the game and the players / <p>Anna-Sofia Alklind Taylor is also affiliated to University of Skövde, Sweden.</p>
