No. of bitstreams: 1 DIS_PERIVALDO_ALVES_PERFEITO_COMPLETO.pdf: 3299243 bytes, checksum: bf5571413a38a4dc2e3693f0ffeee699 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-08-26 / The expected increase of the world?s population and the social demand for quality housing space, added to the understanding on the need of an ecologically balanced environment motivate reflections towards a new concept of designing constructed spaces able to reduce the progressive depletion of natural resources. Housing deficit is a reality in many countries, including Brazil, which led, in 2008, to an initiative of the Brazilian government in creating a program to build social housing. In this scenario, the use of discarded containers for housing construction is presented as a sustainable and promising alternative. However, there is few available information about the construction of this kind of house and the life cycle impacts of its building. Considering this new way of living, the need for developing architectural projects using principles of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) emerges, as well as of evaluating their environmental performance. Based on life cycle assessment (LCA), this study presents an environmental performance assessment of a social housing for two people, built from a discarded maritime container 40HC (feet) and designed according to brazilian regulations NBR 15575 and the principles of LEED.
