Carpes, Fernando Medeiros January 2009 (has links)
This paper presents an analysis about the technical and behavioural restrictions that hinder the dissemination of mobile services, such as WAP portals. The analysis focuses on the restriction related to the usability of applications. Whereas there is a consensus that the adjustment of mobile applications depending on context, user profile, environment of conditions and use the network, characteristics a possible solution to improve the usability of these applications is to analyse these techniques focusing on modeling the User as a mechanism for adaptation and customization. The aim is to examine and test if this approach to adaptation improve the usability of these mobile applications. It is proposed to test mobile service, based on a WAP page, implemented with techniques that allow the adjustment. This service will provide access to the information and outstanding manner of bureaucratic processes of the Superintendência Regional do INCRA in Rio Grande do Sul.

E-CARe : une méthode d'ingénierie des systèmes d'information ubiquitaires / E-CARe : a method for ubiquitous Information Systems Engineering

Ben Cheikh, Ansem 04 June 2012 (has links)
Ubiquitous Information Systems appeared as a consequence to emerging and evolving communication and mobile technologies providing the system with information on its environment, the environment of its users and their profiles. These data constitute the application context and are used to provide personalized, targeted and relevant services. However, ubiquitous services face some difficulties and challenges concerning specially needed contextual data, adaptation degree and computerized decision making. This is due to the gap between advanced ubiquitous services and their applications, and methods and processes for developing and engineering ubiquitous systems. Our goal in this thesis is to propose an engineering method for ubiquitous Information Systems considering different requirements resulting from the mobile and high scalable nature of these systems. The proposed method is based on a development process and a set of generic metamodels and languages facilitating a complete system specification and implementation. The proposed process separates functional, technical and ubiquitous specifications. Ubiquitous specifications enable the structural and event based context models definition while considering user requirements and security requirements. Adaptation and context awareness functionalities are supported by structural and dynamic context models. The proposed event oriented approach is enhanced by the adoption of an event processing architecture. Ubiquitous specifications are integrated into a classical information systems engineering process to constitute the E-CARe process including functional and technical specifications. Our propositions are used to design a user assistance application in the transport domain, highly dependent on the ambient environment and events.

Investigating Users' Responses to Context-Aware Presentations on Large Displays in Public Transport

Kühn, Romina, Lemme, Diana, Pfeffer, Juliane, Schlegel, Thomas 09 July 2020 (has links)
Public displays are increasingly used in public transport to present information such as departure and arrival times or network maps. Since this information is displayed generically, users often have problems to find the specific information they need. We propose context-aware visualizations on public displays to support passengers by improving personalized information access. Several visualizations for this domain were identified, for example, highlighting individual route or pricing information by fading out the background or increasing readability by font size adaptation. To investigate the influence of adapted content on the user we tested prototypical presentations that show personalized information concerning personal trips. In our user study with 20 participants we analyzed these visualizations to compare their efficiency in contrast to non-adaptive content by measuring time to perform specific tasks. This work presents the results of our user study. They show that especially highlighted information supports the user in finding personalized information faster.

Modes of mobilisation : socio-political dynamics in Somaliland, Somalia, and Afghanistan

Sandstrom, Karl January 2011 (has links)
This thesis provides a framework for viewing socio-political contexts and how these relate to interventionist projects. The framework draws on and combines strands from international relations and sociological perspectives of social interaction. The central question becomes how intervention and existing social contexts interact to produce unintended outcomes. It applies the analysis to two separate wider contexts: Afghanistan and Somalia, with a particular focus on the self-declared independent Somaliland as an internally generated and controlled transformational process. Unlike abstract directions of theoretical development the framework seeks to provide a platform that sets aside ideological assumptions and from which interventionist projects can be observed and evaluated based on literature, field observations and interviews. Drawing on such diverse influences as fourth generation peace and conflict studies, Morphogenetics, and social forces theory, the framework explores conditions and interest formations to capture instances of local agency that are part of a continuity of local realities. It views social interaction without imposing Universalist value assumptions, but also without resorting to relativism or raising so many caveats that it becomes impractical. It exposes the agency of local interest formations hidden beneath the discourses of ideologically framed conflicts. These social agents are often dismissed as passive victims to be brought under the influence of for example the state, but are in reality able to subvert, co-opt, constrain or facilitate the forces that are dependent on them for social influence. In the end, it is the modes of mobilisation that emerge as the most crucial factor for understanding the relevant social dynamics.
