Knowledge-sharing Practices Among Turkish Peacekeeping OfficersEren, Murat Erkan 08 1900 (has links)
The Turkish National Police (TNP) peacekeeping officers experience poor knowledge-sharing practices before, during, and after their tours of duty at the United Nations (UN) field missions, thus causing knowledge loss. The study aims to reveal the current knowledge-sharing practices of the TNP peacekeeping officers and proposes a knowledge-sharing system to share knowledge effectively. It also examines how applicable the knowledge management models are for their knowledge-sharing practices. In order to gain a better understanding about the knowledge-sharing practices of TNP officers, the researcher used a qualitative research method in this study. The researcher used semi-structured interviews in data collection. The participants were selected based on the non-probability and purposive sampling method. Content analysis and constant comparison was performed in the data analysis process. The most important knowledge sources of the peacekeeping officers are their colleagues, the Internet, and email groups. The peacekeepers recommend writing reports, organizing training programs, conducting exit interviews, adopting best practices, and creating a knowledge depository. The study uncovers that organizational culture, hierarchy, and physical proximity are significant factors that have a vital impact on knowledge sharing. Knowledge Conversion Model is substantially applicable for the knowledge-sharing practices of the TNP peacekeeping officer.

Research of Knowledge Creation & Spread In Company
-Case Study
Abstract
Knowledge management is one of the current hottest issues in academy and in practice. Nowadays, facing changeful and critical competitive environments, knowledge creation and spread management is the key resource to gain competitive advantage.
The structure of this research is based on four modules of knowledge transformation; five-step modules in organization knowledge creation procedure and five circumstances of organization knowledge creation spiral, which advocated by Nonaka & Takeuchi (1994). The research designs contents of interviews in order to explore the influence of company competition in knowledge creation and spread management. The research also tries to integrate scopes of knowledge management researches by academic documents and deep interviews to explore and understand knowledge creation and spread management in company.
The result shows most of companies know knowledge management is one of the internal core procedures. If it can establish a better knowledge management system earlier than competitor, then the company can develop it into a long-term major advantage by a spread of knowledge spiral even if it is tiny initially. In this case, manufacturers know customer¡¦s demands by feedback system management operating by customer claim service department. Then marketing and developing departments react punctually and supply suitable product and service in market. A tiny advantage can increase company¡¦s competition. This is increasing return economics.

Energy audit methodology for belt conveyorsMarx, Dirk Johannes, Lewies 11 April 2007 (has links)
The electricity cost is one of the largest components of operating costs on a belt conveyor system. This dissertation introduces a unique Conveyor Electricity Cost Efficiency Audit Methodology (CECEAM). In the CECEAM the conveyor system is evaluated from a high to detail level in order to identify opportunities to improve electricity costs. The CECEAM includes methodologies and tools developed to analyze not only the conveyor belt alone, but also the materials handling system as a whole. The outline of the dissertation is structured as follows: Chapter 1 includes the background and problem identification by means of a literature study. The main objective, as well as specific objectives, is defined in this chapter. In chapter 2, the CECEAM is introduced and an overview of the total methodology is discussed. The data acquisition part of the CECEAM; documentation, personnel, walk, technical audit as well as the conveyor database is discussed in chapter 3. Chapter 4 concentrates on the Conveyor Energy Conversion Model (CECM) and the verification thereof. The Integrated Conveyor Energy Model (ICEM) methodology is introduced (in chapter 5) and the economic evaluation concepts and energy management basics needed in the CECEAM are covered. Chapter 6 covers a CECEAM case study where the practical application of the CECEAM is illustrated with ICEM simulations, opportunity identification and recommendations. The conclusion and recommendations for further studies is proposed in chapter 7. / Dissertation (MSc (Electrical Engineering))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering / unrestricted

Conversion to Judaism in South AfricaZekry, Pinchas 12 1900 (has links)
Amidst the decisive events of the 20th century - the Holocaust and the rebirth of the Jewish homeland - which impacted heavily on Jewish attitudes, emerged a broadening of religious doctrines creating diversity within Judaism.
Previous insularist tendencies were replaced by revised outlooks on
proselytisation, blending with the unique characteristics of South African
Jewry. Clearly, local Jewish society and the Rabbinate have placed these
updated perceptions high on its agenda. The inevitable mixed reactions
have been reviewed in this work, which looks at the long road travelled by
the convert from the viewpoint of current motivations, acceptance by the
community and post conversion levels of observance.
My own theory is a model encompassing the respective components of local proselytism looking at categories of converts, their motives, demands to be met and obstacles. To comprehend the contemporary position, a historical survey delved into the issue from its Biblical origins via the influences of centuries, reaching the South African scene. This inquiry investigated the development of conversion policies drawn from an evolvement of energetic Halakhic debate.
These attitudes manifest themselves in archival sources from 1924, of which my analysis is the first of its kind. From these records, together with those of my own community and data available from the Cape Beth Din, the interpretative statistics thus compiled identified characteristics and motivations of applicants and procedural mechanics.
This work proceeded a step further. Focus on the Durban model provided
an ideal observation point for the post conversion stages. Personal
knowledge of the candidates gained from my service to Durban Jewry
enabled me to assess their respective adherences and absorption into the community. Furthermore, responses to a questionnaire sent to the local Jewry and interviews revealed attitudes both of Jews by birth and the
converts themselves whilst added perceptions were obtained from a
questionnaire sent to the Rabbis of South Africa.
In the final chapter I submitted proposals and recommendations, some of
which are radical. Covering the entire process of conversion this model
attempts to address the future of conversions in South Africa as this is
expected to remain a pivotal issue of immense momentum. / Religious Studies & Arabic / D. Litt. et Phil. (Religious Studies)
